So some evil jerk in a semi has zapped all the cute forest creatures into cubes, loaded them up in the back, and driven away - accidentally leaving the cube-ified mountain goat behind. A weird baby tiki god approaches, promising a return to four legged form if the goat can rescue his friends. Oh My Goat!

To accomplish this monumental task, you'll have to.... jump over things. That's it. For 480 levels. Graphics are kinda cute and cartoony, but it's pretty mindless apart from the bizarre opening sequence.

Did you just love Flappy Bird? Christmas is in July this year for you, dear reader. Let It Goat follows the quick-lose, quick-retry, stupid simple game mechanic formula as the deranged avian craze, but does it better in practically every way possible.

There’s actual skill involved here; you’ll notice yourself get better within just a few minutes of impaling the pixelated goat on spikes over and over again. There’s a power-up in the form for a friggin’ brown bear, which gives you a couple health points. The background and enemies actually change as you progress, so you can brag to your friends/cats that you got to the zombie part today. And the sound and visual design is halfway decent, looking like someone spent more than 5 minutes putting it together.

It’s dumb, it’s goofy, it’s addictive: it’s worth a download and a few curse words as you hit retry again and again and again and again.

Goat Rampage is another option to brainlessly bash things for points. There are three settings – country, city, and… military? There are tanks anyway, and people who freak out at a goat on the loose and run around like loons.

You already know what you’re getting into with Go-Go-Goat. Notice how the GIF appears to loop? That’s because there is literally nothing else to this game. Tilt your device to change the trajectory of the goat’s wild leaps up the mountain platforms. Get as high as you possibly can. At one point, coins will appear, and you’ll want to snag those, because coins.

There are various power-ups and the like if you jump high enough, rockets and eagles and god-knows-what, maybe angels or GoPro cameras or hot noodle soup. Hop up and find out.

Gravity is your best friend in Naught 2, wherein you play a dark little kitty collecting diamonds in the twistiest of labyrinths. Again, no means of self-propulsion – you’ve gotta spin the whole world right round (baby right round) to help him fall with style, avoiding brambles and other such deadly nuisances. You have to pick up a whole new set of navigational skills to master it – super cool.

Miseria is another gravity game, this time with a full set of fanged humor. Lurk the Urchin is deeply in love, but a cruel ogre has torn him away from his paramour. Help him return to the spines of his beloved by tilting the floating labyrinths this way and that, avoiding bloodthirsty spiders and sawing through walls.

Last Fish is a quiet, melancholy haiku of a game. Tilt to navigate your glowing fish friend through the deep dark waters. Depending on the level, you’ll want to gather rings or health points, and avoid the shadowy presence that zaps your energy away. It’s slow – which isn’t to say easy - and mildly creepy, should you have any environmentalist leanings. Definitely beautiful, though.

Dark Lands is a fresh take on the endless runner genre, incorporating fighting tactics alongside sprinting and jumping. The levels are spontaneously generated, so you never know if you’re going to suddenly come face-to-face with giant orcs or spinning wheels of razor blades. The silhouette aesthetic adds a touch of class to the constant cartoon bloodshed.

The blob protagonist of Contre Jour has no means of self-propulsion, and neither can you incite it to move. Rather, morph the surrounding landscape such that you create hills and valleys to roll the critter to the exit. Swing it from hanging tentacles, hopefully avoiding the many and varied deathtraps below. Clever as can be.

Badland has been around the block a few times, but it’s wholly worth mentioning – talk about gorgeous. A weird creature who is 90% afro and 10% ineffective wings flaps its way through levels littered with obstacles including ginormous turning gears and exploding plants. Collect glowing orbs to modify the guy – grow huge, shrink tiny, speed up, slow down, and burst into a zillion clones of yourself. There’s way more – it’s an incredible journey of eerie discovery. The infested-jungle sound effects totally rule, too.

JoyJoy is swarms galore, frenetic shooting and gliding to avoid wave after wave of abstract baddies. Oh, sure, you can level up your weapons, target the formations with different plans of attack. But mostly, you’ll just be fleeing to the tune of relentlessly poppy electronic beats.
