All photos by Philip-Lorca diCorcia. I went to see an exhibition of his today at the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield, and fell a little bit in love with the series A Storybook Life. At first sight, it seems like a collection of travel and documentary photographs of people and places spanning decades, but in reality is a collection of staged pictures dreamed up by diCorcia, and is all the better for it.
There's something far more dreamy and interesting about creating an artificial reality within a picture - a kind of hyper-reality. diCorcia first thought up the character and situation captured in the photo, and after this found an individual to fulfill this role. I love the fact that the people captured are secondary to the character they are portraying, and that at first glance the pictures seem to be snapshots of every day life, albeit a really, really lovely one.

All I want in my ears right now
I think we're just going to have to be secretly in love with each other and leave it at that.
Falling Light by Ryan McGinley
That there is a panic in my chest is not relevant. I am tired of writing sad poems. Baby goats. Peanut Butter cookies. Beyonce. There, Now it’s happy. I don’t know what it means to be a good artist but I know how to read palms and draw on my eyebrows like fucking Liz Taylor so I do have that. This poem is for your eyes only. This poem is a knock-off of a knock-off of a knock off. This poem is a purse bought in Chinatown. The secret about this poem is it wishes it were like all the other poems. The sequel to this poem is me naked in bed beside you like every other night and me naked in front of strangers like every other poem.

Well I wonder, do you hear me when you sleep? My ultimate, favourite ever band (along with death cab). I could listen to every single song on a loop for the rest of my life and not get bored.
Inspiration for the new Nasty Gurl artwork.
The demo version of Hot Chip's 'Look at where we are', which is so soo much better than the album version, and that I'm completely obsessed with.
oh my fucking god, I can die happy. Arctic Monkeys covering Drake - going to burst!!
A few pictures I took at God's Own Junkyard in North London - a warehouse full of neon signs, set pieces, props, and the biggest disco balls I've ever seen. I think this is one of the most aesthetically amazing places I've ever been - it looks like how I imagine the inside of my head to be.
Candy coloured dream houses on Portobello Road.
Whenever I think of Gatsby I think of you. "They're a rotten crowd, you're worth the whole damn bunch put together."
Last weekend I got fat.
