She supposes he’s right – they arent in the Flame World and they aren’t in the Gray Garden anymore. They’re… wherever they are. Whatever the town – island, she corrects herself – is called. It’s their new home and… maybe, just maybe things can be a little different. Maybe things can … Well, she guesses she’ll just have to see just what his intentions are. So far he’s been really nice, despite her prodding and invasive questions.
“ I guess you’re right – I mean, there’s some pretty bad blood there, huh… It’s probably too much to ask for things to be different. I think it extends beyond just… Us, you know? I mean, our generation. I know there was a giant war and everything, but… Mn, I don’t know. Am I talking too much? I feel like I’m talking your ears off. “
He hasn’t exactly told her to shut up, though, so maybe he likes hearing her talk…
“ I don’t know how the Old man and Etihw would feel about that but – ah, yeah, you’re right. We’re here and not there and… Man, I hope everyone back home is okay. “
No time to get sad, Yosafire! Focus on the here and now! Like the fact that you haven’t let go of his arm yet!
“ Oh, uh… I don’t know if I said this already, but… thank you. You didn’t have to show me the way to town and I don’t exactly have any money to pay for anything from the cafe, but I really appreciate it. Uh… maybe I can find a job or something – er… “
She finally lets go of his arm, as if she was going to walk away from him, but she stuck right by his side, glancing nervously at all the strangers that seemed to move about in the clearing ahead of them.
“ … I think I’ll just stick with you for a little longer, if that’s okay. “
“Huh? Nah, you’re not. It’s fine. But mnn.. yeah. Shit happened before either of us were effin’ born and we just kinda got thrust into the middle of it all. Seems like you were a lot more fortunate though.”
He seems to laugh that off instead as if it were a joke and not something that’s actually cause him a lot of grief. He tended to do that a lot. Laugh off his misfortunes. A bad habit really that he never could seem to break out of. Anyways, he really didn’t mind her talking. He rather enjoyed it, just hearing her speak so passionately about all sorts of things with such enthusiasm.
“I’m sure they’ll manage without ya for the most part. Who knows-- maybe we didn’t actually leave our worlds and we’re just in some dream world. Hell if I know.”
She had finally released his arm and to be honest he was a little disappointed since it was actually rather nice but whatever. He won’t say anything. It had taken him a bit to get used to the amount of humans this place housed and the amount of other strange beings that seemed to loiter around but by this point he didn’t care so much since he still mostly kept to himself for the most part and they were just people that he walked past.
“No problem. I don’t really mind so much. If ya ever need help then I’m your man.”
They had reached the coffee shop that seemed to be only half full with customers. A little busier than he liked it but as long as they got a table then it was fine. Emalf reached out a hand and opened the door for her, gesturing her inside before entering as well, the door shutting behind him with a soft clink.
