AU where each time she defeats Typhon, Melinoe uses his dismembered eye as a scrying glass to call the Fates from their little pocket of the void (instead of going up to Olympus). Hear me out:
We could see The Fates gradually realize they want to retire and that the gods should maybe hold less power, rather than drawing that conclusion offscreen. We could see Melinoe influence that decision a bit with her questions, rather than just playing the role of a messenger. Maybe she fumbles the first few but, as she starts to learn about the gods’ cruelty and question whether mortalkind would be better off without their influence, she carries those concerns up the mountain and starts asking the Fates some deeper questions.
It would give Prometheus a bit more narrative influence. He could still have different plans and priorities than Melinoe but his efforts to sway her opinion would be more meaningful if they influenced her interactions with the Fates and helped bring about the outcome he wants in a tangible way.
There’s already some dialogue in the game that suggests Melinoe feels conflicted about her Olympian relatives, but that character development feels mostly optional and arbitrary in this story. Maybe the questions she asks the fates could be triggered by conversations she has with Dora, Heracles, Prometheus etc. And since the “promise of a golden age” is a postgame event, there’s also an opportunity for her to talk with her mom about it, ask her what she thinks about the Olympians. It would be nice for Persephone to have some involvement in a storyline and Melinoe would probably value her perspective and trust her.
The last conversation with the Fates could still be the Hecate reveal. And after you’ve exhausted the story dialogue with the Fates but keep fighting Typhon, you can still contact them but they say stuff like “we’re done answering questions, you’re on your own kiddo!” And “We’re doing ok out here, thanks for calling!” and hang up.
This is a bit off topic but, while I love Moros, I think his romantic events are weakened by how often his dialogue is just…exposition about the Fates. Their relationship is compelling but I want to know them as characters and hear them talk about their baby brother too.
