I was reminded of my old uni film recently and wanted to take a stab at redesigning the characters. If anyones been following me here since 2013 then hey, thanks for still being here. I think I created this tumblr around the time I’d just finished the animation so probably posted this character way back then.
It’s so hard to believe that it’s been 6 years since then. Feels like so much has happened but simultaneously has gone so quick. Time, eh?
Another quick character concept sketch today.
Working on this character design at the moment and decided to take this sketch in After Effects and give it a bit of life. Done using a displacement map and a little makeshift facial rig using some null objects and expressions controlling some pivot points. Added a little time displacement on the hair as well to give it a bit of energy when she moves her head.
Another sci-fi concept. Some kind of futuristic corn farm perhaps?
Time to blow the dust off of this tumblr with a concept piece. About 2 hours on this one. I end up doing quite a variety of art at my day job, often in wildly different styles so it was nice to do something more in the vein of ‘my style’ I guess. Feels like I haven’t done that in a good while, what with work and an unfortunate drawing-arm injury I had recently. If you’re aiming to get into or are in the art industry then look after your arms kids! They’ll stop putting up with your shit after a while if you keep mistreating them. ;p
I tend to work on a load of different pieces at once, and they’re all nearing completion, but I’m feeling like doing that has created a weird bottleneck where all the pieces are fighting to be the first to get finished and out of the door.
Just need to get one done and the rest will follow I’m sure!
Hope all’s well! Cheers
Well, it has been a while since I last updated! Mainly due to the fact I’ve recently moved! Plus I managed to sneak in a visit to Japan, and start a new job, so it’s been go, go, go recently. Finally settled down a bit now and can get back into finishing some of those works-in-progress. Here are some sketches from a few lunchbreaks ago, as well as a couple of snaps from Japan.
Cheers!
Sketched in Alchemy, coloured in Photoshop. Haven't done any Alchemy sketches for ages, I'd forgotten how fun they can be.
Trying out a different brush that's more CHUNKY and SQUARE and GRAINY than my usual soft round. Makes for a more tactile feel I reckon. Cheers
Painting airships
Haven't done any fan-art in forever, and I love the design work of Overwatch so here's this thing! Cheers
A few ideas and a couple of mood paintings for a camo'd sniper-cyborg.
A few character bits today, again from The Mannequin, which the pictures probably gave away. Also featured is the illustration for the games booth at Insomnia58 this year. Cheers!
A few more environment concept bits by yours truly from Two Tails' The Mannequin. Cheers!
Here are a few environment concepts from the narrative-horror game 'The Mannequin' that I've had the pleasure of working on this past year. If you wanna check out more of the game have a look at http://themannequin.game/ It was shown at Insomnia58 this year as well! Have a gander at some of the photos of the booth over at the Two Tails Blog More to come, stay tuned! Cheers
Only me! Finally got around to finishing this painting I started months ago, along with the initial sketch and a quick lil' process gif. One of the things I want to work on more is trying to retain the feeling the intial sketch has, all the way through to the final painting. You'll always lose a little bit of energy in the rendering process but I think I could do with loosening up the brushwork a little bit. Until next century, when I decide to update again! Cheers!
Couple of bits I haven't shown yet: Character design work for an upcoming MOBA game, Circuits and Shields. Very fun to work on, can't go wrong with sword wielding robots. ( Higher quality: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/m5mRy )
