Pigalle Fall 2017: Avant Garde & Mixité
The Parisian streetwear brand Pigalle is known for adding flair to contemporary streetwear garments. Stephane Ashpool has curated a fall/winter line that is primarily a spin on ordinary day-to-day garments. The silhouettes in his 2017 menswear line are experimental but pays homage to French workwear with a spin on japanese basics. By mixing contemporary with avant garde you get a line that is wildly entertaining yet still fashionable. Ashpool’s spin on french workwear is dedicated to craftsmanship which is expressed by the added embellishments, fabrications, and arrangement of pockets.
You rarely see light hues used in fall/winter lines but Pigalle continues their strong love for bold colors. They’ve added a few earth tones and autumnal hues to create a distinctive aesthetic. Menswear is all about experimentation and pushing the element of design and according to streetwear terminology this would be considered a “level up”. My favorite piece from this collection happens to be the feathered japanese kimono and the patchwork topcoat with elongated pockets only because they can be worn as statement pieces.
