Back to Basics: Fall Edition

Since the beginning of fall I’ve felt that I’ve been getting back to my roots. I took some time off to learn to appreciate the little things in life and furthermore my surroundings. It’s easy to get sidetracked in life but it’s best to remember what you’re purpose is. This look was inspired by my love and appreciation for nature as well as my love for fall. I love the art of layering which is why I chose to pair a classic staple piece with my personal uniform that I’ve been developing over the years. I’ve been incorporating pops of red and indigo blues into my daily wardrobe for some time now. Creating your wardrobe foundation takes practice so trust in your process. Start off with a few basic items that appeal to your own lifestyle and continue to build from there. Hope this post was helpful and encouraging ladies and gents!

QG Style Guide: Autumn’s Palette

The leaves are changing and temperatures seem to be cooling down here in Chicago, so what better time to finally bring out your fall threads. I’ve collected some key fall essentials that’ll keep me warm and cozy this season. A classic bomber jacket is always a great go to piece because not only are they “fashionable” staple pieces but they’re extremely warm and add character to your look. Get a quick “fit off” by pairing your bomber with some distressed denim, a nice tan sneaker or boot, and a neutral colored hoodie for extra layering. Find a palette that works for you but remember to include both warm and cool earth tones for a great fall look. As always remain cozy my friends!!!

Here I’ve put together a quick minimalist style guide for those of you looking to invest in some key pieces to add to your wardrobe. With me being a minimalist I try not to consume so many items or brands, I like to remain loyal to a few and buy quality garments. Look for brands that align with your day-to-day activities and focus on those staple items that are interchangeable. The items that I’ve featured in this style guide are some brands that have strong detail and construction elements. Archetype Pt.1: Utilitarian

ar·che·type: a very typical example of a certain person or thing.

Creating my own style and wardrobe has been a journey and I’ve been able to find a look that aligns with my style. Being a minimalist I’ve developed a uniform for myself, I’ve used color and classic silhouettes to create my style. I like to consider myself a utilitarian or “heritage junkie” because I like convenient garments that are both versatile and detailed oriented. Finding the perfect outerwear pieces for the fall is a process, but once you find an item that works for you stick with it. Keeping things simple yet detailed driven is always a goal of mine which is why I like to include a couple staple pieces (selvedge denim and Adidas NMD) into my wardrobe. Look your best this fall by including a few staple items of your own ladies and gents!

A QG Style Guide: A/W 16′ Essentials

Fall is slowly approaching and before you decide to invest in some new apparel be sure to take a look into your own closet. First begin by assessing your current wardrobe and look for any key pieces that you may be missing. I’ve put together a list of essentials that I recommend both ladies and gents take advantage of. I’ve even provided a color palette that I think will help you when you’re doing your fall shopping. 

As always don’t forget to remember that quality over quantity is key to bargain shopping. Look for items that’s suitable to your lifestyle but be sure to invest in products that are both convenient for when you’re heading to work and when you’re hanging out with friends on the weekends. I’ve chosen items that mimic my style and taste so I would suggest you doing some digging and come up with your own list of gems that you think can align with your style.  

Never be afraid to mix streetwear and casual pieces together but don’t over due it with a lot of branded logos and a lot of embellishments. Keep things simple yet modern with a pair of jeans (raw indigo preferably) and a simple sneaker and a graphic tee. Layer your denim jacket or bomber with a plain olive or tan pullover hoodie. A QG Style Guide: August Sneaker Rotation 

Here’s a look into my current sneaker rotation for the month of August. As the end of summer approaches I share with you a few gems that I’ve been sporting for the last month. Starting off with my favorite Air Jordan silhouette aside from the cement 3′s (sidetone: top 5 Air Jordan of all time) I have a huge appreciation for detail and quality suede. The Aqua 8′s are a streetwear necessity which is why whenever I sport mine it’s usually with a pair of joggers and a graphic tee. 

Keeping things simple and classic is an art of mine so whenever I’m off to work or just doing some window shopping on the weekends the Nike Tennis Classic are always my go to sneaker. Built for comfort and made to withstand long walks across the city. The upper and midsole are both perforated which will help alleviate any sweat build up and to top it off a grained sole designed for better grip. 

Now I’ve always been a fan of Vans and sometimes a classic pair of the Sk8 Hi’s are essentials to your wardrobe. Whether you’re a skateboarder, into streetwear culture, or just enjoy the pleasure of a versatile sneaker the Sk8 Hi’s are quintessential to any individual’s wardrobe. A QG Style Guide: Krispy-N-Clean

Spring has officially made its debut in Chicago and now that things are getting a bit warmer it’s time for a lighter color palette. You can either choose from pastels, neutral colors, or lighter earth tones to wear this spring. I chose to keep things minimal by styling this "krispy” clean French terry sweatshirt, with a pair of light-weight cargo pants, a distressed denim jacket and a pair of high-top wheat Air Force Ones. Find your balance this spring by incorporating a few light-weight textures into your wardrobe as well as some pastels.

QG Street Snaps: A Streetwear Approach 

I’ve been waiting for the weather to break in Chicago just so I can break out the Aquas and now that spring is here it’s only right to. My first pair of Jordans in a while and I settled on the Aqua 8′s because of its astute construction and smooth color sequence. I chose a “cozy boy” look instead because let’s be honest wearing joggers and sweats with a pair of J’s is streetwear appropriate. Stay cozy my friends!!!
