I think the thing that annoys me most about AI on a personal, day to day, level is what it has done to grammar checkers. If you've never done a lot of editing, or used to 5+ years ago but haven't really in the last couple years, I can't even begin to describe how fucking BAD this shit has gotten. And as an author it is EXHAUSTING.
I just want to catch spelling errors and accidental double spaces and repeated phrases and whenever I use the wrong too/to or affect/effect and shit. But no. They've shoved AI up the ass of every grammar checking software out there and now they all fucking suck and make the most random, obnoxious, nonsensical suggestions.
And yeah, I can ignore all the times it's trying to get me to cut out any semblance of my own voice, or shove things into the wrong tense, or make the most random suggestions on comma usage. But if it's getting all that WRONG, what is it just straight up missing that I SHOULD be correcting? What real spelling and grammar errors are still lurking in there?
I get why people keep saying this (and other versions of it like "Use Adobe alternatives" and "Use Google product alternatives."). But here's the problem: I do not create in isolation. Even my own 100% personal projects are getting sent to other people whether it's editors or printers or beta readers and unless every single person in that train is using the same products, things can get wonky.
Libre Office and Word handle formatting differently on the back end, which can completely break documents if you move them back and forth between the two. So if I write in Libre Office but my beta readers are still using Word, when I send them a manuscript for review there's a good chance things won't look right and my beta reader will not actually be reviewing what I sent them.
Industry standards are industry standards FOR A REASON. Having everyone on the same workflow can be crucial to getting things done effectively and correctly without creating a lot of extra work. And those things are not going to change overnight, as much as we might want them to.
Yeah, Word, let me just leave this whole chunk of dialogue without the closing quotation marks. That's the thing to do. How dare I have two punctuation marks in a row. It's not like that's how closing quotation marks fucking work.
And you know, for young writers, this has got to be so detrimental just from the perspective of opening your document and seeing a million corrections that, frankly, don't need to be there. If you're a young writer you're likely not going to have the background knowledge to know what is and isn't a good suggestion, you're just going to see a document that makes it look like you made every mistake possible so clearly you must be a terrible, stupid writer and should just give up.
I use Harper, and I love it. I know it's annoying when people keep telling you to just test different things, but I really think it's worth checking this one out because it can be integrated to a lot of programs, and literally changed my life.

I miss you
The cursor blinked. Waiting, almost patiently, as her thumb hovered over the send button, then hit delete. One, two, three times. Slow, maybe regretful.

And the cursor blinking.
So many things that she missed. None of them easy to name, like when a word hangs there, just on the tip of your tongue, if only you’d remember. Hopeful. Like you might stumble upon it at any moment, you can feel it getting close, closer, your brain speeding up and your mouth working around it, so close like you’re almost ready and if only—
She erased the entire message. Started again. Erased again. Stopped. The cursor blinked. Empty. Kinda dreadful, every writer worst fear was always a blank page, only she’d do anything to start again.
Clean slate, another chance. Whatever the name, she’d take it. Make it right this time, no more mistakes, enough of regrets. Probably do it all wrong again anyway, but damn she was trying. Shouldn’t be so hard. Hard, yes. But not this hard.
The cursor blinked, waiting.

Her breath was warm and fast on her own hand. She pressed down on delete, held firm under her thumb till everything disappeared.

This June prompt theme was my attempt at combining a few aspects of what was most voted on in the poll. Since “Summer Solstice” won out, I tried to make it mostly fit to that, but also incorporated the “June in Tune” and “Honeymoon in June” since they tied for second.
SO here is my monster.
The following is a list of songs. I’ve created a Spotify playlist (link or scan the code) to hopefully make this easier for everyone. My intention was to create a Summery-feeling collection, but also have some lovey vibes mixed in. So there are love songs, summer songs, summer love songs, etc. So hopefully that covers all of our bases for those of you who aren’t experiencing Summer this time of year.
Pick lyrics you like if you want to base your work on that, use the song title, use your interpretation of the song, even just use the general vibe or feeling it gives you. Overall, it’s your work and these prompts are purely here to try to spur some creativity or get the writer’s block to go away.
I tried to pick various genres (although pop-ish music won out) and various time periods-ish. There are also some extra songs at the end of the month.
All that being said: making this was…a time 😂 I am open to any feedback should you want to chime in. If you liked it, I can definitely do something similar again. If it wasn’t accessible, let me know. All the things. If nothing else, I hope you at least found some new music you like or hadn’t heard before (I did).

I want to highly recommend two tools for helping you with this very sad situation, which you must use before it happens.
The first is this wonderful script that will automatically add key information (that you choose) like author, title, summary, etc to your bookmark notes so you at least know what got deleted.
The second is this incredible bulk downloader for AO3. Input any AO3 page (such as your bookmarks page) and tell it what format you want to download in and it will just.... DOWNLOAD IT ALL!! I run it every few months so that I have all my bookmarks downloaded in my preferred EPUB format. That way I know I always have my favorites downloaded in case they ever get deleted.
With the combination of these two, I can look in my bookmarks, see what was deleted, and easily find it in my downloads. It's such a relief to have my own fic library is all my favs!
It automatically saves evey fic you visit so you have a backup if the fic is ever erased. No more mysterious bookmarks lost forever.
Also if you go to the page of an erased fic, it not only gives you the option to check on ao3 saver in case you have it saved, but also in archive.org in case someone ever did a backup there.

It's me again! Wanting to make a few things clearer (pls crop my username)
I'm Brazilian, and next year I'll legally be an adult (yay!). So far, I've updated all my apps normally, and none have asked me for age verification, because I'm older than the minimum age to use them.
If my memory serves me right, it took a while for the law to be enforced. Websites/apps rated 18+ ask for your ID or a photo (e.g, porn sites that you log in, but in the anonymous mode they don't ask), websites/apps that aren't, don't (e.g., Instagram).
So please everyone, don't be alarmed. I know the situation isn't cool, but so far not all websites/apps ask you for that.
And I saw people cheating the verification with ✨ 3D game characters ✨, so we know the ai system in shit.
