Faridah

      That was a name Miles would never be able to forget nor would he ever allow himself to.  Every superhero has a defining moment, a breaking point in which your view of the world changes, you begin to question the real reason behind the job.  And Miles believed that point to be the death of his mother.  That was perhaps the worst moment of his life, the day he decided he was only playing to be a hero, when he learned that saving people was harder than Peter Parker made it look like.  It caused him to quit, of course, but only until he realized this path was inevitable, that he could not stay away from this life for long.  He was given powers for a reason, and that power must come with a responsibility.

      How responsible is it to exchange one soul for another?  How fair is it to become the one to decide who lives and who dies?  Then Miles pictures a hypothetical scenario in his mind in which he lets the girl live.  He would reject an obviously tricky contract with the devil himself, he would save Faridah, take her away from the chaotic scene, and simply accept fate…  That is the worst part of it all, because fate comes with the loss of that special person.  And you know it’s literally fate when the only thing that can change it is Mephisto.

      He looks up from his little cup of chamomile tea to find her mother back from the restroom. She notices the incongruity of his actions.  Superheroes care for the people, especially those whose lives were not ready for their end, but superheroes don’t visit every victim’s home, they don’t offer comfort to their families so personally, so intrusively and obsessively.  Getting to know a girl who is no longer here isn’t going to bring her back and it’s certainly not going to help with that huge feeling of guilt in his chest. If anything, learning about the wonderful person she was would only make Miles feel worse about the most stupid decision he has ever taken.

      And then he asks himself ‘would I do it again?’  time and time again, and the answer is always yes.  He would be that stupid again.  The guilt, the decay of his soul, its corruption… they are all insignificant, they take a second place when it comes to Ms. Marvel.  She deserves to live, she is someone who will lead many others to a better place, she will save so many more people than he ever will.  She will lead the Champions, then the Avengers, the country… and eventually the world, and she will excel at it.  She is that kind of person everyone is attracted to.

      But then again, while he is dispensable, Faridah is not.  So he would’ve chosen to sacrifice his own life for his boss’, of course.  That is the ideal world.  That would save everything. However, naturally, things are never that simple.  He is not given a choice here.  The terms of the deal are apparently kept by the devil on purpose, away from his sight.

      Faridah was a good girl, she was obedient to her parents, a beloved daughter and a quite popular friend.  She liked chamomile tea and marshmallow, she could spend hours immersed into a book, but most of all… she loved photography.  She had a keen eye and a rich heart.  Miles was sure he’d seen models who were not as pretty as she was.  She was amazing.  She could one day become a scientist, a doctor, a politician, and save more lives than a superhero.  And yet she was not Ms. Marvel.  It’s not like Miles was trying to choose between them, but would he do it again?  What does it matter anyway?  After all, the damage is done.  Just thinking about the possibility of making such a terrible decision once again makes him want to throw up, to be disgusted at the kind of man he has become.  That’s not a superhero, that’s for sure.  That’s why he’s taken some time away from that life, hung the mask up until he knows what to do from now on.  The people doesn’t deserve a hero who will choose his own friends over the greater good.  That’s precisely what he’s afraid of… that he will always choose her… that his love for her is stronger than his sense of responsibility.  That’s no way to handle power.

ok // this one’s hard because i like bombshell and i felt sorry for her when her feelings were unrequited. i don’t think miles’s ever had that kind of feelings for her, but he does care a lot, considering she’s one of her oldest friends, back from the ultimate universe and the young ultimates team.

adorable // they could work. it hasn’t happened in canon, but they have interacted a few times and are in the same team now. nadia doesn’t hate many people and she’s an easy person to get along with, so miles naturally likes her. but that scene in secret empire makes me think that they can easily become closer. it’s also funny how nadia likes miles and hates peter.
