“There's enough to go around. Raise your expectations. Demand more" - MK
The above quote is the driver that inspires an on-line event I am aiming to produce celebrating Buckminster Fuller's 125th birthday.
The event is entitled "Bucky125"
My feeling is that this event is necessary in light of all the events that have transpired in 2020. There is a vacuum of inspiration. Many are exhausted by uncertainty engendered by national and global events. This event aims to fulfill and replenish others with a healthy sense of possibility - the possibility embodied by Fuller’s work, vision, and legacy
The vision I have is powerful. I see this event as a means to deeply influence a global audience and to inspire optimism and hope.
It requires the right people with the spirit and skill set to make it work. People who embody hope and optimism. People who would like to bring more of this hope and optimism into being.
Obviously, this is an on-line event. It is easy to get speakers and to get a good venue and tech team for live events. This is a different ball of wax. We'll need not only some to build a website, but is also capable of doing 3-D design. An event and media producer/manager may be required, people who are good with managing, developing and utilizing communication platforms. A person who can develop a profit sharing plan with an emphasis on commission on sales.
Essentially I would like a team where I can say, "Can we do this" with a response being "Yes, we can" or "I know of somebody who can do that"
Here is partial vision
The landing page with show a real-time 3-D image of "vertex into gesodesic sphere" being built. Each person who would like to be a part of the team will be responsible for bringing another team member, thus being a vertex and in the process of building the geodesic sphere. Scrolling the mouse over the vertex will briefly reveal the person's name. Ideally, as new vertexes and angles are being added, visitors will see the building of the sphere in real-time.
I would like for this to be a paying event at a fair price. It will be a profit sharing event for roughly everyone involved in the measurable production of the event, including speakers. We will aim toward a specific amount and pay commissions based off that amount.
Raffles of items (books, memberships, etc.) and giveaways.
3 speakers speaking about given them in a TED format (15-18 minutes) with a panel discussion afterward. 4-5 themes will be covered.
In attempting to lift the event off the ground last I was in touch with Amy Edmondson, Thomas Kung, Bonnie DeVarco, Jonathon Keats, members of the Ant Farm Collective, Trevor Blake, Howard J. Brown and other artists.
I would also like to include some artist who were doing interesting experimental work in the from the 60's up to know who were walking the line of experimental/work during this period to give their perspectives on Bucky. Van Dyke Parks comes to mind.
This will be an epic event !
