The entire thing was a mess. He had heard so many different versions of the scandal, even some entailing that it was Rabastan’s sexuality that had driven his future wife away. That was perhaps the most ridiculous theory because Andromeda had known he was for years, and their marriage would have survived on the basis they both could see whoever they pleased. Yet he never imagined that had meant mudbloods as well. “That’s rubbish, everyone has favorites,” he said flatly.
Rabastan swallowed a mouthful of whiskey, the searing in his throat the exact sensation he needed. “I knew she was… different,” he admitted. “That she did not think like the rest of us. i just didn’t– I couldn’t begin to imagine she was fucking one of those filthy bastards,” he spat. That’s what everyone was asking him, how could you now know? Your own best friend? Your own fiance?
The alcohol had made its way into him now and his cold composure was melting into hot anger. “Exactly,” Rabastan said. “Selfish is the word. She always told me she wanted to stay for her sister, for her little cousins.” He looked at Araminta. “For you. But no, instead she went and ruined her life over the first mudblood to give her attention. It’s sickening.”
A few weeks ago Araminta would’ve thought Andromeda was the most selfless person she knew, the last person she’d expect to be a traitor. To permanently damage two great families reputation, possible beyond repair. “I mean my family consists of psychopaths, idiots, some of most utterly boring people and yet I favourited the worst one; a mudblood lover." She shook her head in disbelief.
Ara nursed her glass for a minute before deciding it wasn't working for her, she needed something stronger so pushed the bottle aside. It wasn't like she couldn't afford to waste it, finally settling on joining him with drinking whiskey. The sharp, intense taste far more suited than the sweet grapes of the wine. "Different, yeah of course. Too soft?, sure. A blood traitor?, never. Even as a kid she was the worst liar, always gave herself away. To think she was lying all this fucking time! To everyone!" She couldn't stop thinking of all the excuses over the years, seemingly justified and innocent ones. Were they lies? Was she going to see him? She was doubting everything she knew about her cousin. "It's disgusting! Fucking hell how didn't we know?!- the closest people to her!" She snapped, shaking her head as she snickered. They weren't, were they? They were the closest people to Andromeda Black, loving family member and devoted Pureblood but that wasn't who she really was. Did they ever really know her at all?
"Her life, all our lives. It's nauseating how she could even.. " she couldn't continue that train of thought as vile filled her throat and a cringe ran down her spine. It was mortifying for the family, sickening to the core! It wasn't as if the scandal was justifiable, it was the worse thing Andy could've done and to do it of her own accord.
