So you want to fandom Arcane

So you stumbled into Arcane, because it was on netflix or because you saw all the pretty gifsets and now you want more.

Bad news, there is only 3 more episodes, dropping one week from now. There likely will be a second season but:

animated series of this quality take a long time to make

it’s not completely sure if there is a second season, that it will be about the same set of characters and be in the same setting (a lot of fans of the games hope that they will explore the other locations and continents of the game in other series

However, if you want more, these are the things that exist:

Caitlyn - The Sheriff of Piltover: She recently partnered with a new recruit from Zaun, the brash and reckless Vi. He dreams of the day when his hometown rises up to dwarf the so-called City of Progress, when Piltover’s golden veneer will be overshadowed by the towering ingenuity and relentless spunk of a Zaun born not from generations of privilege, but from sheer daring.

Jayce - The Defender of Tomorrow: Viktor expanded Jayce’s intellectual horizons and challenged many of his assumptions. While Jayce sought to improve humanity via versatile technology, Viktor sought to solve problems inherent to humanity itself, such as physical decay or illogical prejudices.

Viktor - The Machine Herald: Alone in the depths, Viktor sank into a deep depression, enduring a traumatic period of introspection for many weeks. He wrestled with the ethical dilemma he now faced, finding that, once again, human emotion and weakness had stood in his way. He had been trying to help, to enhance people beyond their natural capabilities to avoid error and save lives.

Singed - The Mad Chemist: He has already mastered the destruction of flesh, and thus now has turned to the preservation and transformation of it… and perhaps even the possibility that life need not end with an inescapable death.

Warwick - The Unaged Wrath of Zaunt: Warwick struggled to recall a single memory from his past... All he could see was blood. But then he heard a little girl screaming. Screaming something he couldn’t understand. It sounded like a name.

Heimerdinger - The Revered Inventor: A brilliant yet eccentric yordle scientist, Professor Cecil B. Heimerdinger is lauded as one of the most innovative minds and esteemed inventors Piltover has ever seen. Relentless in his work to the point of neurotic obsession, he is fascinated by mysteries that have confounded his contemporaries for decades, and thrives on answering the universe’s most impenetrable questions.

There is a card game set in the same universe called Legends of Runeterra that freshly introduced has mode where you play against the AI. (note that in this Jinx can only get a happy reunion with Vi if she does not mistread Caitlyn)

There are comic books, however, they are genearlly not set in Piltover and Zaun

Zed (Ninja/Asian inspired investigation)

Lux (medieval inspired setting, girl with magical powers in a society that hates and suppresses margic, torn between her family and a pro-mage rebellion)

IMO , if Arcane is very successful, I think this is the highest chance (other than the short stories) where new material might come from in the near future.

I see posts about “in a perfect timeline” or “in a better timeline” with Silco and Vander adopting the kids together and Silco’s face is still scarred and I’m like ??? in your perfect happy ideal life for them Vander still tries to kill Silco??? He still strangles Silco and holds him underwater to drown him and causes the infection that permanently disfigures him???

I think it's a situation where people just think the scar is iconic? I have like seen modern AUs where he still has a scar and people just explain it away that he got from somewhere/somebody else.

There's also the thing, if Vander and Silco still adopt everybody that would usually mean Felicia still dies, so one could argue that already makes it unhappy (if you accept season 2 where Felicia is somebody they cared about rather than some random nobody).

So the setup always requires some tragedy, Felicia dying, them likely not taking it lightly, we know Vi still thinks/dreams of her mom even years later as an adult.

Hence really trying to eradicate all tragedy (and the question is: would most people really want that?) even bigger rewrites would be needed, like a polycule relationship with Felicia and Connel (who to most people probably don't have the amount of characterization to make that setup interesting) or no Felicia and Connel and Vanco just being the bioparents.

Jinx is a silly goose sometimes

I always headcanon that Jinx's relationship with Silco is that she loves him, but thinks that he's fucking stupid (about some things).

That she at some point in her life had a growing up moment where she began to see that you don't have to take everything he says at face value and at same time she had the emotional intelligence to see the vulnerability behind it.

I always feel that puts me at odds with both the people who are more "they had the perfect relationship, she should have carried on his legacy" and people who are more "omg he manipulated and brainwashed her".

Don't get me wrong, just because I think that she thinks that she's smarter than him and doing him a favor doesn't mean that influence or even manipulation didn't affect her choices or the way she sees the world (maybe even in ways that she doesn't even understand).

And I don't think that this is even in the way of a darker read on their relationship, I'm sure there are full on abusive relationship where the abused person stays because they think abusive partner needs them and they have to stay to protect them.

But yeah, basically, I think at some point Jinx came to see Silco's rants about Vander and betrayal as an expression of pain, not something to actually believe in. I think at some point she came to think his insistance that their life stories are that similar is just flat wrong (but imo doesn't tell him that much because she knows it's pointless, he's just gonna rant more). We see this in her eagerness to reunite with Vi, her story about she felt Vi was always with her, so she clearly doesn't think Vi is like Vander or how Silco sees Vander, she never gave up hope to be with Vi (even if she was afraid Vi would judge her).

I read her stealing of the crystal and killing of the enforcers against Silco's wishes as another "she thinks Silco's methods are stupid and not working". Yeah, there's an underlying "she is upset about the Firelight job" to motivate it. But imo it has elements of straining against Silco's "let's just wait and see and keep plotting and accumulating power". So I never thought her calling Silco's revolution stupid in season 2 out of character.

Another big example to me is the river scene. At the beginning, she's pretty snarky "rolling my eyes teenager" about it. But right before, her expression is kind of hopeful. She wants it to work, she wants to give it a chance.

But imo the promise of Silco's little stunt was that it would "fix her", fix her demons. And for a short while, she's elated, works on the weapon. But eventually she comes down, she's still hearing voices, she still feels insecure about herself, and she still loves Vi.

So I think she had a moment of downness/disillusionment after that. It doesn't work, of course it didn't work, Silco is stupid and his promises are wrong, we are not alike as he insists we are.

But she doesn't confront him about it. She doesn't run into his office and yell that he broke his promises, that it didn't work she still feels just like before, that he's stupid. So I think there are elements there that Jinx doesn't tell him certain things, as mixtures between not wanting to hurt his feelings (a very "parentified" kind of move) and thinking it's pointless he just wouldn't listen.

Like, she clearly wasn't open to him about loving Vi and still feeling a connection with her, likely because she had zero faith that he would be understanding and genuinely comforting about it (because he is incapable of not projecting his Vander issues into the situation).

So in that way, it feels very fitting to me that Jinx finds the Vander letter. I think she had a lot of empathy for Silco about the Vander&Silco situation and at the same time, I think Silco's inability to be normal/gain any distance about the Vander situation really stood between Jinx and Silco and them having a fully open and caring relationship where he truly sees her how she really is.
