Fulvia Bisi (Italian, 1818 - 1911) - In barca sul lago
there's something about cauterising a wound that fascinates me. it's not like stitches or plastering, where you hold the damaged parts together until they're strong enough to stand on their own again, or even amputation, where you sever the damage completely to allow the rest of the body to heal. instead you burn the wound shut, sacrificing a little flesh to the fire in order to save the rest. you feed the snake its own tail until it forms an unbroken circle. it's like a low-level type of pyromancy to me.

god I just. love ruthlessness as a character trait so much. sexy sexy sexy
this one. absolutely in love with this definition. give me a character who thinks like this and I’ll love them to pieces
[ID: a quote reading "People don't understand the word ruthless. They think it means 'mean.' It's not about being mean. It's about seeing the bright, clear line that leads from A to B. The line that goes from motive to means. Beginning to end. It's about seeing that bright, clear line and not caring about anything but the beautiful fact that you can see the solution. Not caring about anything else but the perfection of it."

“This thing — I’ll call it trauma — enters our speech as if by stealth, through the back door, in the night. Then it sounds as though we are speaking in code to one another and to ourselves, and that code is both the mark of trauma and is, itself, traumatizing.”
