But if you’re really interested in a book on my bad take (thank you!!), I’ll say that I was initially gonna answer this ask by kinda just pasting what I wrote about Satsunon in this post right over here, where I explained:
Nonon definitely puts Satsuki up on a pedestal, but I think that after the events of the series, Nonon could absolutely grow and come to see Satsuki as an equal. Satsuki, too, could finally feel safe in fully letting Nonon in.
I’m a total sucker for the “childhood friend” trope, so. It was also inevitable that I’d like this one.
Plus, Sushio totally encourages the pair with stuff like this adorable after-series fanart of Nonon about to give Satsuki flowers!!
And, heck, even his character sheets in LOVE LOVE KLKL make me go, “Aww!”
Satsuki may not be the most open with her emotions until the end of the show, but I think she clearly loves Nonon and loves having Nonon in her life. This couple has a lot of sweet potential.
But looking back, this really ain’t my unlimited thoughts about Satsunon at all! And though I won’t go that far here—both for the sake of my readers and myself—there is definitely a lot more that I can expand and elaborate upon.
First of all, please, please don’t take this the wrong way, but while I like Satsunon as a pairing, I also believe, as noted in the little bit I pasted above, that steps have to be taken in order for Satsuki and Nonon to have a healthy romantic partnership.
And I want to stress: I don’t at all mean this as a bad thing. I don’t at all think it’s a bad thing for characters to change and grow and learn to treat each other better, especially if they’re doing so together; there’s a reason that I love Ryuko and Senketsu’s relationship so much, after all! Those two certainly don’t start out in a great place, but they get there by the end of the series. (And I cry, seriously.)
But unlike Ryuko and Senketsu’s relationship, Kill la Kill doesn’t devote much time to explicitly focusing on the bond shared between Satsuki and Nonon, so we don’t get to see the same kind of development for them. But like Ryuko and Senketsu’s relationship, both Satsuki and Nonon must also make an effort to better respect and love each other in order for them to have a more positive, beneficial connection, and just like with Ryuko and Senketsu, I would love to see Satsuki and Nonon’s journey in doing so.
On Satsuki’s side, though I didn’t really mention it in my writing reprinted above, one of her biggest struggles when it comes to Nonon is the issue of trust. As the official Elite Four light novel reveals, Satsuki didn’t even tell Nonon that she was transferring middle schools back in their pre-Honnouji Academy days, and I’ve previously described this decision as “absolutely tragic” and as “[showing] how much Satsuki did not trust Nonon at all.”
Yet, I don’t see Satsuki’s actions as stemming from cruelty. Maybe not too unlike Houka’s decision to frame his father in order to save his family from certain death at the hands of Ragyo Kiryuin, I would argue that Satsuki tries to keep Nonon in the dark to protect her. As much as Satsuki hides her emotions for the majority of the story, her love for Nonon is still more than evident within the show, and the game’s glossary even takes care to make Satsuki’s feelings for the girl quite explicit with the note that Nonon is “one of the few people that Satsuki feels comfortable around.”
Satsuki’s attempt to shield Nonon from her goals is of course unfair to Nonon, but it’s an attempt that comes from a place of love. Satsuki wanted to assure that if she were unsuccessful, Nonon would be safe. She wanted to assure that if she were successful, Nonon would not be a casualty. She’d have Nonon to come home to.
Nearing the end of Kill la Kill, Satsuki obviously opens up. She stops concealing her heart, and in after-series explorations of the material, I would love to see Satsuki come to feel more than just comfortable with Nonon. I would love to see Satsuki feel safe with Nonon. I would love to see her feel safe sharing herself with her childhood friend.
You know, just like how scared, shy Ryuko comes to feel safe sharing herself with Senketsu. Yes, I can’t shut up about them.
On Nonon’s side, I kinda detailed the journey I’d like to see her take in my writing pasted up above, but one of my better fics, “The Woman with the Rose-Colored Hair,” is a Satsunon story from Nonon’s perspective that really gets into the Satsunon development that I crave. As I’ve written about the fic before:
In my piece, Nonon learns that Satsuki is going away by hearing some chatter, and to prove to Satsuki that she’s worth trusting, she runs to Satsuki before Satsuki leaves, declaring that she’s coming with no matter what. At the end of the fic … Satsuki meets with Nonon again after the world has been saved, and Satsuki finally opens her heart up, noting that she wants Nonon by her side, as a friend and equal, and she’s done with being treated as a goddess to be worshipped.
So, tl;dr, I like Satsunon. I think the pairing has a lot of sweet, sweet potential, and I love how the game has added so much to their relationship. While Nonon’s infatuation with Satsuki is beyond clear with just the show itself, you really get a sense of how much Satsuki loves Nonon in the game; Nonon is the only one of the Elites whom Satsuki refers to by their given name (which could admittedly be because Nonon is a girl, as I believe it’s common in at least anime for girls to be referred to by given names whereas boys are referred to by surnames, but I don’t think Satsuki is the kind of person to do that), and Nonon’s interactions with Ragyo solidify that Satsuki and Nonon have been close for a long, long time.
And I think that they’d like to continue being close for a long, long time, and I’d love to see them do so.

Spice and Wolf - Honey Spiced Apples (How To)
Sorry you guys. Peaches are out of season. However, I did come across the recipe for honey spiced apples to keep everyone occupied until spring/summer comes around. Then we can try out the honey pickled peaches that Holo (Horo) the Wise Wolf is just so crazy about. If you didn’t realize, this recipe is a tribute to the Spice and Wolf anime.
Difficulty: Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy
Time: This recipe takes 24 hours. The apples must absorb the sweet juices! However cooking and prep takes less than 25 minutes especially if you have a hand in the kitchen.
Groceries Needed:
5-8 Apples (I used gala apples, but it’s your preference)
2 Cups of Honey
1 cup Sugar
4 cups Water
1 ½ teaspoon Allspice
¾ teaspoon Whole Cloves
1 Cinnamon Stick
Lemon Juice
Tools Needed
Giga (Big) cooking pot
Vegetable peeler
Chef Knife
Big Bowl
Measuring cup and measuring spoons
1 gallon pickle jar (Or jar)
Ready?!
COMMENCE THE DELICIOUSNESS!!!!!!!
Step one - Hack and Slash
With your vegetable peeler, peel the skin of the apples. Don’t forget about the stem. Don’t wanna eat that.
After all apples have been peeled, cut each of them down the middle and take out the seeds of the apple. This is possibly the only difficult step in the process. I had a little assistance during this part. She ended up with a battle wound, but she was a trooper about it. :) Be careful.
After apples have been peeled, and seeds have been taken out, take each of the apple halves, and cut them into moon shapes. Cut them into decent bite sizes and put them into a bowl for later use.
During this process it is easy for the apples to turn brown. Pour lemon juice on them to prevent browning.
Step two - Hot Sweet Tooth
Bring your 4 cups of water to a boil. After the water has boiled, bring temperature to medium, and toss apples in along with the sugar and honey.
Mix and let sit for approximately 6 minutes or until sugar is totally dissolved.
Remove apples from pot and place them into your jar.
Pour remaining juice from pot into jar.
Add your allspice, cloves, and cinnamon stick to mixture close/cover/twist lid on.
Step three - The waiting game
Wait 24 hours
Step four - Feed the Wise Wolf
Enjoy the deliciousness of your honey spiced apples. I still have tons left from Thanksgiving and they taste amazing. Hope you think so too.

Wow this is the best thing I’ve ever seen
All right, here’s my contribution to the art tutorial infographic world, part 1 of 2. I’ve noticed that even in professional illustration, so often the humans and environments and armor and whatnot is really, really great— correct anatomy, lighting, proportions, like ‘wow this is fantastic WAIT what is up with that HORSE?’
I suspect two things;
First is that I spend 15 hours a day, 365 days a year looking, touching, handling, and just generally being around horses.
Second is that most people do not.
Artists have lost touch with their connection to horses as contemporary society has lost touch with them. Generally, we don’t have that constant presence of horses in our lives that previous generations did, as horses aren’t part of the everyday landscape any more. They don’t work the fields, they don’t cart the goods, they don’t deliver the mail or transport you to the next town down the road.
However, we still see horses all the time— in movies, books, illustration, ads and logos, we are presented with the image of horses all the time. So we assume ‘yes, I have seen horses often and I know what they look like.’ Because of our exposure, we as artists don’t always feel like we need to heavily reference the animals as if we were drawing something we don’t see everyday (say, like elephants or giraffes or sea cucumbers). Our brain just kind of plugs in ‘horse shaped’ and we go with that.
And I suspect that ends up being where a lot of these common mistakes occur. Dogs are familiar, but we can easily find a dog to draw from live, to see the way the shapes of its face are put together in 3-dimensions. Cats, humans, birds… if we venture just a little ways outside our studios (or in some cases, inside), we can find live models to study easily.
You can’t really do that with horses. They’re a commodity, sequestered away behind fences on private farms and shuttered away in barns. So few people really get the chance to be up close and have that hands-on experience to really learn how a horse is put together.
So here’s some things, based on my own experience both drawing and working with horses, that might help you if you find yourself needing to draw one for yourself.
The approach I took might be more complicated than absolutely necessary, but I tried to present the subject of ‘how to draw horses’ a little differently than I’ve seen it done before. I hope someone finds it understandable, and more importantly, helpful!

I grew up loving horses, and disappointed in lots of horses that I saw in animation.
Horses are beautiful animals, with their own anatomy. Yes, they are hard to draw. Horses were the first thing I really learned how to draw well, and then I kind of moved on from there. But they have their own anatomy, its beautiful, and interesting. Theres a lot going on. I always get kind of sad when I see beautiful stuff with just plain bad horse anatomy. Especially the ears, horses have such pretty ears. Not triangles. They also have a lot of body language and they can be very expressive.
So yeah. Horses are great! Study that sheyit.
I feel bad for people that never got to pet a horse. They are very soft.
