The man was writing in blue ink on the white board, spelling out each letter carefully so his handwriting could be understood. He’d had years to perfect it, but he didn’t want to, a word, like ‘guarantee’ could only be made out as g——-l—, and given the circumstances, this being his first day in this town with this job, it seemed like a good decision to let the students read his words.

He took a step back and nodded, pushing his reading glasses further up the bridge of his nose as he sat at his desk, opening whatever book laid near.
A new year meant a new start, and Penemue wanted to take it literally. A new name, Kevin Churchill. A new job, teacher. In a new city. He would be teaching seniors and ambitious juniors. The only worry was that they’d think he was a student too.
He’d actually gotten that a lot.

imagine the places that we’ll go au -- OPEN!
It had been raining on the trip over to the sea-side town that had a welcoming but dirty tavern. The wooden structure had been a nice shelter from the rain and storms that turned the seas into a tossing, sickness-producing body of angry water. Someone had suggested throwing someone overboard to please Poseidon… He had been thrown overboard with a fair bit of cheering, not that it had helped at all.
By the time the Captain’s Curse had reached the docks, everyone was a bit wobbly, a bit bruised, and shivering. Those who hadn’t thought coats would be needed (read: everyone except Grace, who always wore a coat regardless of weather) were regretting that decision while Grace was sat between her siblings, both of whom were dripping wet and shivering.
"Should’ve worn a coat…" She said happily while taking a swig of her drink. Nathan glanced at his identical twin before looking to her.
"Wish you hadn’t." He grumbled, his hair dripping all over the table. His twin watched the dripping without any focus.
"She always does. Ain’t going to change anytime soon." They stated, running a hand through their hair before pushing their chair back and wandering to the bar. The locals seemed glad of the soft mumbling from the pirates, not that the crew cared as they grumbled and mumbled and muttered into their drinks. As George reached the bar, they noticed someone else there who wasn’t a pirate and glanced at the other person before requesting a refill and strolling towards the other person. "Hello there." They greeted the other, their pirate upbringing having taken an obvious toll on what used to be, at one point, a rather upper-class London accent. "Bit wet out, isn’t it?" Observant as ever.
The tall, lean man stood beside the carriage in the pouring rain, a hand over his head as he glared at the splintered wheel.
Perfect. He thought as he looked around himself for somewhere to be dry. Absolutely perfect. By simply standing in this torrent of rain, his dark hair had become wet and his coat had become a darker shade of blue then originally intended.
His eyes clicked to a tavern. It wasn't a place someone like him should be... But it is wet, and raining, and who in their right mind would stand around like a fool when there's a perfectly nice sheltered building so close to him.
Penemue frowned once again at the wheel before ducking into the tavern.
He looked so out of place there, a man with a blue pressed jacket that looked like he belonged to a family of old money -they had no idea- in a place like that...
It wasn't really something one would expect.
The man was shaking from the chill of the rain as he slipped through the crowd and toward the bar. He sat down, and just planned on waiting until the rain stopped, ordering only when it was necessary. He wouldn't dare walk home inebriated.
He glanced over when the people greeted him, his distrust blatant on his face.
With a slight grin and a hand through his still wet hair, he answered.
"Really? I hadn't noticed."
