The problem with the voyn_101 transcription is that it marks some things that are the same in other alphabets as different (eg the lifted-leg gallows having a wiggly-left and straight-left variant); I suppose all the transcription alphabets have their own quirks, though.

I’ve slowly gotten the feeling I’ve been visiting the same pages repeatedly; at some point I’ll do a test to see if “unusual” characters tend to cluster on some pages more than others.

I don't want my own biases to skew the project, so here I'm going to attempt to quantify them:

- I'm a fan of Bax and Vogt's "gypsies wandering through Europe and Asia" theory... which I can't really clarify because Vogt hasn't reuploaded the videos he made about it yet. WHOOPS. I suppose I just like the story- some travelling tribe wanders through Europe and some Arab-type countries, looks at their written works and thinks- hey, let's make our own writing system, with blackjack and hookers! So they make this big weird book with influences from all sorts of places they've been in, and when they get done with it, they look at it... and go, this was a disaster, let's never speak of this again. Drop it off in some random country, wander off into the desert and die in a freak sandstorm leaving no trace behind besides this strange book.

- While I get the impression of (poorly) copying the standards of the time, I also get a feeling of contrarian-ness, mainly due to the abundance of notably unique image similarities- that is, things like the zodiac images being drawn in a way that was only done in some little bit of Europe for a short period of time. As though the authors were going around picking out the most obscure things they could copy. Though that being said mathematically there's there's not going to be a count of typical vs atypical iconography and habits, because anything that's just boilerplate typical just fades into the background. No one's going to go "they drew Libra as scales, everybody does that and it gives us no information, let's make a list of things like that"

- The odd behavior of the gallows is some kind of cargo-culting of those "illuminated" letters seen in manuscripts from around that time. That is, whoever worked on the Voynich manuscript, didn't quite get that the fancy starting letters were just fancified versions of normal letters, and thus either contorted sentences to begin with gallows or just stuck a gallow at the start of a paragraph because it's "supposed" to be there. The latter might be behind the "arar" variations noted by Bax in that one video- when placed at the beginning of a paragraph the apparent plant name gains a gallow (a different one each time even) but it also exists without one. (Of course the "arar" pattern could be absolutely nothing) The gallows are then also used as normal letters because that's what they are. - Really the whole manuscript feels like it's made by someone who tried to copy the manuscript style of the time but didn't really get it. I'm not an expert on manuscripts however, so this opinion is utterly meaningless.

- Finally, I've begun to wonder if i and c minims are actually the same character, but the i- and c- based characters are not necessarily the same as their equivalent. This is in reference to that one curve-line system blog post I'll say more about later

Takeaways:

- a and o are ambiguous as well as s and r - some ambiguity and variation is due to things like Currier hands, not to being a meaningfully different character - worrying over every rare character and piling up too much metadata isn't useful, but then one guy thinks this one obscure thing (bench plumes) might be meaningful and worth recording...

That last point is the kind of thing I had in mind when coming up with my system- in order for data to be decided as "excess" it still needs to be examined. Thus, a system where extra data can be tidied away when not being actively used. It doesn't even have to be fully data-dense to begin with- for example with the bench plumes, you might just have them marked as "fairly standard", "somewhat off" and "completely different" to start with, then if someone like this guy thinks he might be on to something he can use the data to pull up all the "weird" plumes and begin deciding what addition data could be worth recording and thinking about. That data can then be added to the "master" files but everyobe else can just continue to ignore it if it's not relevant to what they're working on.

But also I just find it kind of entertaining to greatly overthink everything

RIP Ascencionism

With Unfiction forums down, I doubt I'll ever be able to finish a complete overview of this... here's a last few notes-

"Wyoming Incident" was namedropped at one point, either in a chunk of text the meaning of which was never deciphered, or in a chunk of text a couple words of which imparted some meaning but the rest of which was never deciphered. This is a bit odd, seeing as the Wyoming Incident isn't exactly what most people think it is. It's often passed around on "top five freakiest creepy things!!" lists and the like as a broadcast interruption occurring in- where else?- Wyoming. However, this is apocryphal; the video actually belongs to what is possibly one of the oldest and longest-running internet ARGs. And what a glorious clusterfuck of an ARG it is. Go look up Nightmind’s video on it. At any rate, it exists in some segment of the collective internet consciousness an actual broadcast interruption event.

The strawpoll/button-pressing/twitter/etc story may be in reference to The Stanley Parable, a game about a man named Stanley pressing buttons and meta shit happens. Combined with the above there might have been a theme of obscure/freaky internet culture references, possibly in line with the ARGs (unnoticed) origins in a Kanye West fangame.

As the ARG went on, it seemed to be developing themes revolving around punishment and imprisonment. Stanley presses buttons to execute the accused and eventually must press the button to execute himself; the players play as prisoners who shank each other while also being butterflies and storms (no one ever really figured this part of the game out)... the strawpoll game played hangman with accused criminals, trying to fill out the name of their crime before the button to end their life is pressed. Another story involved a child forced by his parents to dig holes all night as punishment for some transgression before begging for forgiveness in the morning. (Or something like that; I've forgotten the exact details.) This is pretty interesting when taking into account the beliefs of the "real" Ascencionism cult, specifically the aspects that most unsettled players when the manifesto was discovered- the concept that one consents to all suffering one will experience in ones life before reincarnating into the world, and thus that any suffering you can inflict on a person is acceptable. A story of child abuse, or an old man being led to the electric chair for jaywalking, doesn't quite square with that. It seems almost as though the game was beginning to deconstruct itself, showing the consequences of a mindset that treats people like this... Or maybe the puppetmasters really were that fucked in the head.

Nowadays, there's a miniscule trickle of content still coming out, covered on a barely-active Discord chat room. The twitter account is still babbling away with new nonsense ever 12 hours, but there doesn't seem to be anything worth looking at there.

Sub created Tue Apr 7 17:18:38 2015 UTC by /u/lcqp_announcer, who bafflingly enough was fairly active in the few days before starting the sub, having joined on April 3rd... despite then posting only a few times in r/lcqp before vanishing with the rest of them. If they were trying to look like a normal user, you'd think they'd pick a different username... The sub is marked NSFW for some reason. I expect this stops it from showing up in search engines or being cached by Google, or the like. Fortunately archive.is can still grab it.

There's a deleted post (reply to lcqp, 17:52:09), to which announcer replies with another PGP message (18:35:09). Last post on the 10th. lcqp refers to dustoff as "Kimmy". sam's posting history seems to still have the deleted reply, which is Vietnamese for (according to Uncle Google) "Ah, beautiful girl, no Oscar!". Can't be sure this is *the* deleted post though. Sam makes sure to mention his alternate name of "Than", which he's referred to by in other posts. - The comment thread has posts fairly closely clustered together (5-10 minutes between replies) except for the last one, with lcqp's post edited hours later.

I think you may have missed out, buddy. - This is the one that baffles me most, honestly- why is Ayo so late? If lcqp is legit (regarding this sub, regardless of the legitimacy of the LCQP story at large), why would a soldier or ex-soldier do something dumb like reply to an outdated thread in a retired communications sub? Wouldn't he at least use the more recent thread, at least acknowledge he's late? If lcqp is a put-on this can be handwaved as essentially a plothole, but why would this be in the "script"? If AyoDende isn't a part of the "show" (regardless of the legitimacy of anything else), this could be explained as some bandwagon-jumping gamejacker kid being an idiot, but he uses military jargon previously used by phelan as though he knows what he's talking about. ... Then again, given the gafes required for the original LCQP incident to have happened, maybe these people really are just a little bit dumb.

Through some posters' pages, we find one more relevant thread: Wed Jun 3 15:52:59 2015 UTC- i__hah's death thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/self/comments/38dtyt/well_so_long_everyone_thanks_for_being_here_i/ Outside of /r/lcqp, a rather sobering thread where a person who is apparently "Shade" announces their own impending death by (presumably) colon cancer. This is the user's last post, preceded by about 15 minutes by one about "soothing gels" and "gratuitous nudity". Well, that's one way to go out. I'm not to sure about the logic behind this one. Apparently his doctor miscalculated i__hah's remaining lifespan by three months the first time, but he was now sure of his time of death down to the hour, possibly minute. Unless he was commiting suicide (sanctioned or otherwise), I'm not sure how this is supposed to be possible...

THE CHARACTERS

Some of the users of r/lcqp were quite active outside of the sub, while others only posted a few times. Sex and porn subreddits seem to be quite popular among these people...

lcqp_announcer- Posts mainly in generic subs like AskReddit, eli5, showerthoughts, as well as some odder ones like HotAsianMilfs (unsurprising), weddingplanning and identifythisfont. A lot of the Askreddit threads seem to be about sex. Another favorite sub is progresspics, where he semi-aggressively hunts for opportunities to drop a bit of backstory (lost 100+ pounds in 7 months due to illness and surgery). dustoff_avenger-joined 2015-04-07T17:29:50+00:00, first posted 2015-04-07T17:30:54+00:00 in the RALLY VINCENT thread. Possibly the most active r/lcqp user, she (gender mentioned in post history) started posting with the creation of lcqp and continued to post for a while after Shade's death, with her last post on Mon Jun 29 16:15:50 2015 UTC. Once again her post history includes a lot of sex-related subs and threads, as well as TwoX (a cringy sub where random men praise women for getting an abortion like you'd praise your 10 year old for going to the corner store on his own for the first time, apparently...). She also seems to be openly lesbian or bi. Also common are politics- and military-related posts and posts about her job, which is apparently some form of military pilot.

Last post before that is his one post in r/lcqp at 2015-04-07T17:41:47+00:00, edited same day T21:35:40+00:00. Once again there's plenty of military posts and sex posts, with a bit of whiteknighting, though unlike the others he seems to have quite a... problematic sense of humor. Also Death Note and Sailor Moon. Apparently he's old. One of his more recent posts before vanishing describes his "former employer"'s death, clearly referring to RoP.

i__i__i__i__i__hah- TwoX post, check, sex posts (with a particular focus on pegging), check, military posts, check... Whiteknighting, check... I think this might just be a common trait among military types, who tend to lean conservative and also be concerned with protecting "civilians", but having it pop up in the post history of every single person in this sub makes them look closer to a group of sockpuppets. Aside from being almost disgustingly cringy. Jesus While we're talking about circlejerks, bitching about religion also seems to be a common trait with this group... Anyway, i__hah was apparently deployed overseas in 1976 prior to meeting their wife, is old, etc. They have the longest post history of any /lcqp user, as you'd expect from their earlier registration date... amusingly, further back in their history (around April 1st?) they claim they usually abandon accounts after hitting 1000 karma to shake off trolls. The account has posts going up to two months after that and sits at over 3000 karma. I'm half-tempted to say the death post was simply a way to end the persona and abandon the account, as is theorized with Milo, but the other users' reactions to it seem sincere.

I_am_flat_sam: Joined Wed Apr 8 11:31:18 2015 UTC. Has less than a page of posts, first being the Vietnamese reply made Wed Apr 8 11:37:07 2015 UTC to RALLY VINCENT... which doesn't show up on the thread.

The user returns in June to post in i__hah's death thread (the Vietnamese text here apparently just translates to "goodbye, my friend", and then posts a handful of times in r/balisong (a type of butterfly knife), r/xray (sub for shopping picturs of attractive women so their nipples show through their clothes... yep), and r/DCcomics, over the course of a week. So, at some unspecified point since I was last going through and archiving the contents of r/lcqp- the unverified spinoff of the Lake City Quiet Pills "mystery"- the sub was made private.

Meanwhile, r/lcqp-out-of-africa, the edgy more racially diverse spinoff of a spinoff, was created- specifically on Sat Jun 3 14:34:12 2017 UTC, with title "the next generation".

Uh, okay.

I'll come back and flesh this out once I've actually finished my post on the initial /lcqp (jokes on them, I archived everything), but here's some points of note:

Back on April 3rd, some random redditor with no other posts linked on the discussion sub a supposed obituary (posted on Reddit's own r/obituaries) for a sergent. The post linked is almost hilarious, blatantly mentioning LCQP, a love of "Hotel Parties", and that the now deceased was going to meet "the religion of peace". The post is in slightly broken english and includes coordinates to a motel. It was downvoted and disregarded at the time, as you'd expect, but a day after the creation of the second lcqp sub one user who posted there ("Reid") also replied to this thread, saying "yes, it is bullshit". It's unclear whether this is referring to the death or to the post's legitimacy.

Of the users of lcqp-ooa, one returns from the original sub- dustoff-avenger, who was the most active in the original sub. Others are new, most having signed up within the last few days, one with a two-year-old account with only a recent post in the sub. Unlike /lcqp(?), posting isn't restricted at all, so feel free to show up and drop some dank shitpost maymays. A large amount of the content posted in the (currently) only thread is encrypted in what appears to be hexidecimal Dustoff also has some posts whining about Trump and Germany or something.

This whole thing is pretty bizarre, in the way that LCQP was always bizarre- teetering on a tightrope between looking like a bunch of attention whores making shit up and some actual covert ops that someone thought it was a good idea to put on Reddit for some fucking reason. The presence of dustoff would imply this event is as legit as the original /lcqp ever was, and if both are legit it's also possible the obituary was also real... Somehow, though, the one thing that bothers me most is the sub title of "the next generation"- it sounds like something from a generic, lame ARG, and has nothing to do with any other part of LCQP. That just... bothers me, I suppose.

... While I was typing this, another post was made to the sub by dustoff- "talisman 20170615". Clearly referring to a date a few days from now (currently the 12th) though what "talisman" means is unknown. Though once again I can't help but feel it seems... out of place, like something from a much more stereotypical mysterious/spooky ARG. (Also, dustoff continues to argue with people on the one thread about Germany and Trump or whatever. Okay)

The pcmasterrace illuminati

On Reddit, there exist a large collection of private subs with similar names, all private with a series of hexadecimal values as their sub message.

While pcmasterrace2 and pcmasterrace18 are legit (albeit dead) subs, pcmr 0, 1, and 3 through 16 all follow the pattern, with 17 being private with no message. There's also the nicely named "pcmasterbate".

By searching each sub name individually you'll get an estimated time of creation, which is one year ago for most. 17 however is only 4 months old. It's also not marked 18+ as the others are. 18, incidentally, was also created about a year ago, and since it's not private we can get the exact date of July 20th 2015. For reference, 2 was created 3 years ago (Nov 10 2013), apparently as a replacement because the original pcmasterrace got shut down or something.

... Searching for subs with the search term "pcmasterrace", meanwhile, doesn't seem to turn up most of the numbered subs, but does find you a large quantity of subs named for videogames with "pcmasterrace" as the description.

Ascensionism timeline- Intermission

On Jan 29 2015 the main thread briefly sputtered to life again as one AviaRayne posted asking what the fuck was going on- a friend of theirs had "stumbled across" the ARG, and they'd been working through the thread and what they'd "found in the game" (no direct mention of Kanye Quest yet).

One Amo Bishop Roden covers the discovery of the "ASCEND" easter egg in Kanye Quest. (Note the pastebin was posted Jan 28, a day before they even tried posting to UnF.) The passwords are datamined, and googling leads the group to the Ascensionism UnF thread. It seems like the friend Amo refers to in the post, the one who discovered the hidden area, is the one who wrote the pastebin.

KQ's connection to the rest of the ARG

There's certainly a thematic connection- the evil clones and souls and whatnot- though if I recall correctly these elements of Ascencionism didn't manifest in the main ARG until sometime later... and we're still not entirely sure the Ascencionism "cult" as outlined in that one Angelfire website is even connected to the ARG, are we?

It's also unclear how you were meant to progress in the game, as the passwords are unrelated to... well, pretty much anything, unless something major's been overlooked still. The QR code address may have led to a trailhead, but it's an odd URL and we can't even be sure it was ever a legit webpage.

Finally there's the matter of the fake address entry form. Despite doing nothing, it's deliberately coded to "pretend" to send the information by pausing for a few seconds. This would seem to speak against the possibility of the game (or the hidden content at any rate) being unfinished, as if it was simply missing the data-sending code there'd be no need to add a fake pause...

My best guess is still that KQ was meant to be the trailhead, with the QR URL leading to puzzles like the original video which would yield the passwords, meaning the end goal would be within the game while most of the content would be outside it. However, this only works if a second form is put up somewhere that actually takes peoples information for use in the ARG... really, that one detail seems to ruin the possibility of any use for this game. It's possible it was just meant as a bit of theater, with say once the game's puzzle has been publicly solved the PMs start pretending they're recieving addresses from it and... fuck i don't know

What's that? Did I completely forget something glaringly obvious? That's nice. Looking way back, the end of the Kanye Quest trailer plays some morse code that spells out "ascend" before flashing the Ascensionism eye logo. So this *was* intended to be something like a trailhead. What the heck happened?

Legitimacy

Of course it's entirely possible this was a stunt by the puppetmasters to revitalise the ARG and-or call attention to unnoticed content. However, that's actually questionable as a motive- KQ adds little to the ARG that would make it worth making sure it's not overlooked, and it in fact seems to be missing content at this point if the QR URL was real at any point in time. If reviving the ARG was the goal, you'd think bringing in fresh content and not bothering with KQ would be the better option.

The group being ARGers already seems a little bit convenient, but that may just be the sort of people who'd still be playing around with such a game... During this time multiple people sign up but only make 1-5 posts, despite some caring enough to give themselves avatars. Again this might be entirely innocent.

Overall it seems at least possible that the hidden content in Kanye quest was discovered by some internet- and weird shit-savvy users who intended to keep up with the ARG on UnF but found the Ascencionism arg unengaging. (Given the arg was still fairly dead at the time, not surprising.)

The XXXIVYES terminal- given there's 34 passwords (or 33 if you account for the missing first one), it's something that's supposed to be activated once all passwords are entered? The spriteless enemy JFZZJNMS, which later gains a barely-visible sprite apparently based on the "Ascencion" statue used earlier in the ARG. The name is used again much later on(?)

Everything beyond here seems to be unrelated to Kanye Quest. After contacting the admin of the ascensionism records website, the users were sent a link to a "hidden" page of the website, which contained a puzzle and a download link to a zipped file. (Incidentally, the website seems to be hosted via Tumblr.)

The phone line used earlier was down for maintenance, apparently. A user emailed the PM asking about the 7zip password and received... a pile of word salad. It did mention "Rahn's chalky algorithm"- Rahn's algorithm is used to determine pitch classes(?). Taking the forte numbers from earlier (forte is another form of algorithm for this) and converting it into Rahns gives the password. (Why is the algorithm chalky? Who knows.)

The images are all clear/complete versions of ones seen earlier(?). Filenames seem significant? QR codes in the photograph one are still largely illegible, so any info we're supposed to pull from that is toast.

Meanwhile, "yesterday" (in relation to the time of posting of the thread, I'm assuming, so after this group made contact) the twitter account posts some Nick Lyons tracks in a seemingly particlar order.

April 4th Cicada PGP-signed pastebin

For some reason, there exists a recent pastebin on... pastebin, created and properly signed by Cicada 3301. Seemingly in response to the "fandom"'s insistence that PGP had been compromised, or that Cicada would have some other reason to stop using it (thus allowing them to continue following unverified puzzles), it implores to always verify messages with Cicada's PGP key. However, the message was never linked from the Cicada twitter, posted on /x/ or /b/, or any of Cicada's usual channels, instead only being found almost a month later by a user searching Pastebin for Cicada-related pastes. This user was new to the cicadasolvers IRC (? other sources said Discord), but otherwise seems to be normal and not suspicious... though it seems unlikely Cicada would use a plant to post a message "innocently" after a near-month gap when they could just post it to their twitter. Nor do I think they would leave the message on pastebin waiting for someone "smart" enough to do a simple site search to find it. The fuck?

Personally, I'm interested in the possibility that PGP really was compromised and that we're finally seeing the results of that... though as strange as this is or would be for Cicada to do, it's equally strange that a faker with this much power would do kind of absolutely nothing with it.

I note the pastebin had 113 views when it was found... aside from containing some of Cicada's favorite decimal digits, this number is a prime (30th to be precise). Though I doubt this could be controlled for very easily. And of course the google cache has a different not-so-interesting number. Interesting coincidence nevertheless. (For comparison, the views have now risen to 1450 as I'm typing this.)

I strongly believe that my mom was being monitored and harrassed by Youtube, Universal Pictures, and their affiliates, due to a secret, of sorts, she had uncovered within the original trilogy of Jurassic Park films Let me start by saying as early on as I can that I am not crazy - never been diagnosed with schizophrenia, [????] disorder, or any other mental illness. A: Thanks for writing, Cork. Yes. I don’t know much about programming or computer systems, so I’m not too savvy about how to trick them. All I really know about Erratas is that it’s used by dozens of companies. (“recent”, as in, within the last 5 or 6 years) they seem to use it as a copyright-enforcement tool which works as an excellent [?] if you want to take down other things as well. But it has its limitations, and I’m fairly sure that my “test video” helped ferret those out. Maybe. The original Jurassic Park trilogy is excellent, by the way, I highly recommend it. The second film is my favorite, in spite of its flaws.
