I love your series Uncontrolled, so very much! and have been rereading the whole thing today.
I have a suggestion for a fic that I'd love to read from you, that is inspired by my experience reading these fics lmao. So I love reading them, but reading about tics makes me tic.
You know how being around other people with tics, is one of the biggest triggers. My suggestion: One of the younger doctors/med students has a patient who has Tourretes, gets the “great” idea to ask Langdon for a consult. (Kind of like how they might ask Mel for a consult on an autistic patient.) What they fail to realise, is that tics trigger tics (A gap in their knowledge, that is all too common, for these types of medical conditions). They don’t warn Langdon the patient has tics, just the symptoms they came in for. So Langdon is fully not prepared when he walks in, and gets triggered (triggering to poor patient as well).
tldr: Langdon is asked to consult on a case with tourettes, which leads to his own tourettes being triggered.
That the suggestion. obviously you can take or leave it. No expectations or pressure or whatever. Ill enjoy whatever you decide to write next for this series.
I love this idea, and I've been percolating on it for a few days. I feel like Javadi would be the one to ask for his help and gush about how he was the perfect doctor for this patient.
And then she would have her typical mortified face when she realizes what she's done.
Under the cut is a little blurb from what I've been thinking about with this idea, along with a bit about my own experience with coprolalia and copropraxia.
"Your experience will be so helpful!" Javadi said excitedly as they approached the room, door shut and curtains drawn. "I know technically any resident could help, but you are definitely suited to be Kate's doctor!"
Frank nodded along and hoped his confusion didn't show on his face. Why was he the perfect doctor for this patient? Javadi had given him the rundown- 32 year old female with probable broken wrist. Sure, he had seen a lot of broken wrists in his career, but so had every other resident. Simple bone breaks were common in the ER.
Javadi continued to ramble on as she opened the door to the room and pulled the curtain aside. "Because you have experience!" She smiled at the patient- Kate -sitting on the gurney. "Kate, this is Doctor Langdon, and he's going to be the doctor taking care of you today."
With a polite smile, Frank turned to the computer and opened the patient's chart. "Student doctor Javadi told me you think you broke your wrist. How did that happen?" His neck jolted back as he turned back to the patient.
The patient's eyes widened slightly as her heard jerked back also, a perfect mirror of Frank's own tic.
Prickles marched up Frank's neck and it jerked, again, again, again, as a yip! forced it's way out his mouth.
"Motherfucker!" Kate swore, her head jerking sideways now. "Fuck me!"
Once upon a time I volunteered at a camp for kids with Tourettes (the overall experience was just terrible but the kids were great) and I got stuck in a tic loop with a teenager. She would tic "Go kill yourself!" and I responded with "Bitch!" to which she responded with "Yay, you did it!" and my "Bitch!" followed after.
I don't have a lot of coprolalia tics anymore, but "Bitch" is still fairly common. Actually, probably my most common word tic, and it's actually more like "mmmBitch" with a hum before hand.
(It used to be "Bitchass!" in a drawling southern accent, which was objectively hilarious)
I still also flip the double bird (copropraxia), and that usually occurs after a clap. I'll clap, flip the double bird, and do a tongue click. That's a combo that occurs not infrequently for me.
Hey! Just wanted to tell you that I read through your Langdon Tourette's fics and loved them! I hope you keep writing them because they are so interesting.
I'm autistic too and the pitt has become a hyperfixation big time so I've loved your fics
Yay! I know people read my fics on ao3, but when someone takes the time to find me on here, I get so happy!
The Pitt has been a hyperfixation for me for a while, lol, and I really want to get back into writing the Langdon Tourette's 'verse...maybe I can combine the book I am reading with the stories (I'm reading an academic book recently published about Tourette's Syndrome and Societal Stigma!)
Well with the updated post, my choice is Abbot and Autism ! (Before the update, it was either whistling or "untitled")
From this WIP game
It's the one WIP I have that isn't (strictly) in the Frank Tourette's 'verse! We've all seen how Mel is amazing with neurodivergent patients, and Frank copies what she taught him in season 2.
But I think that Abbot would be great too. Have you seen that man's bedside manner??? Season 2 like damn, Abbot, you go man.
So here a blurb from what I've written so far.
“Looking for your will to live?” Dana asked.
Abbot reached over and pushed a few papers and notepads around. “Doesn’t Frank always stash a bunch of fidgets and shit here?” He finally spied a colourful and twisted piece of plastic. “Like whatever the hell that is. Give it here.”
Dana looked over her glasses at him for a moment before handing it over. “That’s his favourite tangle. Don’t lose it or you’ll be responsible for the havoc he’ll cause without it.” She glared at him. “I swear to god, Abbot, sometimes it’s the only thing between getting him to work and him causing chaos.”
Seeing that people are interested in this one has sparked my passion for it again...assuming I can get my brain to think about what to write lol
ooh the frank getting stitches wip sounds so intriguing
From this wip game
The original idea was that Frank was off work because his youngest daughter (who had yet to be officially named!) was in a sleep regression, and there was a national shortage of his meds, so he was ticcing a lot.
And of course Tanner manages to bean him in the head with a toy car, and of course Frank needs stitches.
Except he's ticcing too much to stay still for them,
(Peep that I did post about this one earlier!)
As far as I got was him being knocked out (medically) after having a massive tic attack.
I was tagged yesterday by @eveningspirit and my plan was to do this yesterday...but alas I was dying.
RULES: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous, and tag as many people as you have WIPs. People can send an ask with the title that most intrigues them , and you post a snippet or tell them something about it.
I haven't written a lot lately. I've actually been reading this really dense (and super cool!) academic book about The Stigma of Tourette's Syndrome. Though classes are starting up again soon, and for some reason I often work on WIPs before I have to teach class.
Actually all but the last one are from forever ago lol
Not a Seizure- Frank having weird eye tics during a concert with Abby
Hair Cut- The sensory issues surrounding hair and having it cut
Frank Whistling- Frank trying to sit through a seminar by Gloria while having a whistling tic that sounds like a phone notification
Frank Stitches- Frank needs stitches but he's ticcing waaaaay too much (I think I posted a snippet from this a long time ago?)
Untitled fic that thus far has only occurred in my brain- Frank has a tic attack coming into work
I'm gonna tag people even if they already did it because I am late to the post and most people have already done it lol @eveningspirit @vernyhore @schrodingersregret @whentheresidentsareevil
(Yes I know that is 4 and not 5 but I don't really know others who write? Can I tag @thesoupboy just for fun? lol)
EDIT: I forgot I had others! I only looked at my tablet where I hand write stuff, not on my computer where occasionally I write without handwriting first.
Abbot and Autism- Jack Abbot being an awesome doctor when dealing with an autistic adult patient struggling to leave the ambulance.
Frank with the Ticcing Patient- Frank is summoned to help a patient with Tourette's who fell during an outpatient test elsewhere in the hospital

Summary:
Frank and Shen don't text very much, but when they do, it's typically to share weird journal articles they've read, or case studies they found interesting.
A 2am text from Frank while Shen was on shift was unusual. The text asking "What's your Dunkin's order?" was even more so.
I was tagged by @eveningspirit and since I'm actually trying to get through the one billion WIPs I have in the Frank Langdon Tourette's 'verse, posting a piece of one might help.
This piece describes a tic that I actually have all the time.
Robby was still there, watching, waiting, face set in a careful mask of professionalism betrayed only by the worried glint in his eyes. "Here's the plan," he said carefully. "I'm going to-"
And then Frank's knees forcefully bent up towards his chest, his back and neck arching in tandem. A violent inhale ripped through him, and for a long moment he was frozen in place, every muscle taut and vibrating, his lungs burning with the effort of trying to breathe in past capacity.
As quickly as it had struck, it left. Frank fell back against the bed, panting.
"Jesus Christ." Robby's eyebrows were no longer furrowed, but halfway up his hairline. "That was..."
Frank tried to smile reassuringly, but he wasn't sure it worked. "Abby says that's a contortionist devil inhabiting my body briefly. It usually only happens when I'm just dropping off to sleep, but I guess the devil wanted to make a special appearance today."
Oooh, another torture poor Frank story (as if you expect anything else from me!)
I'm tagging @whentheresidentsareevil @schrodingersregret and @vernyhore
