“Your family makes me feel like an introvert,” Vincent admitted, closing the door behind them as they finally found themselves alone. He kicked off his fancy shoes and put his blazer over a chair. It had been a full day of De Braganças as Portugal’s palace had held an event, and he had been a reluctant plus one. He didn’t often find himself playing the role of boyfriend, but he thought he did alright. He checked off all of the boxes, certainly; got her drinks, opened doors, spun her while they danced, made small talk with her nan. Did things not on the list, like accidentally whispering something dirty in her ear while she was drinking and nearly making her snort wine. Almost hit on one of her cousins before he came to. He stepped behind Ariel as she was taking off her accessories, hands going around her waist and leaning down to rest his chin on her shoulder.
“Foi bom praticar meu português,” He allowed, pressing a kiss to the side of her neck and suppressing a smile. “It’s going to be shit when we tell everyone we broke up, huh? Not that I made a fantastic impression on your grandpa, I don’t know what exactly I said to him but I am certain by his expression that it was not what I intended.” @arimxri
Ari laughed at Vince's words as he walked into her room. There had been a few side eyes when Ari put his suitcase alongside hers there, but they had been dating for a bit. And she had been away to college with him all this time. There was really no good reason to pretend separate rooms would make any difference. “They will do that yes. You passed the cousin test by the way Leo said she approves. Survive a game of Bisca against the twins and we’re officially allowed to wed” she joked. It was easy to say that now. That they had both agreed this wasn’t it for them. She loved Vince, he was her best friend. But she’d grown up around epic love stories her whole life. And this wasn’t it.
She leaned her head into his as he hugged her and sigh. Could she see herself growing old like this? Maybe- but Ariel threw herself off planes and mountains to feel alive. Safe wasn’t her happy ever after. And she could see Vince being happy here too. A big family that would make him part of it whether he liked to or not. “o meu português.” she corrected with a big smile on her face “But the accent was great” she continued, holding up her hand for a high five. “Oh boy. They’re both dead so that might be a legit problem. But yeah, going public with the break up is going to be- weird” she commented turning around to look at him. “How will the world cope with two catches single? After all this time?”
