The key point of Bit Rot was to recreate the essay into a better design, and my respond to this was to make all the writing less on each page. By the end of this mini brief I want to have finished the full zine and show a clear understanding with a twist.
As my Essay was about Douglas Coupland going on a plane and basically judging on the difference between economic and business class I decided that my design will be like a plane and to do this I knew I had to do some research. The research I did was look into different planes and designs of them and unfortunately I did not document this in my sketchbook and blog which was a big mistake and I think this could be done in the next project. I also created my image in the style of Douglas coupland which I did on photoshop and indesign. This is all documented in my sketchbook and blog.
So to create this zine I had to sketch out my designs and be creative and the way I did this was to set a timer for myself ( 5 minutes) and sketch ideas with a pen. I learnt this technique from one of my tutors Will, which I think was a great idea as I could not erase the design and it helps to get everything out of my mind.
I think my time management was pretty good as I set myself to create a to do list which really helped. I also sat away from my friends in the class so I could have a focus time which I did most of my sketchbook work. The biggest thing I learnt was how to actually use indesign because when I first started I did not know how to use it what so ever but now I think I’m more confident but could improve more.
At the end of this project I was really pleased with my final zine and proud to actually use a bone to create a book. I did get a lot of feedback from my peers which actually helped me and made me improve all my mistakes in my work. I honestly think for the next project I need to do more research and Primary research as I was lacking with it for this project.
