o medo existia e era quase palpável, e naquele momento eu vi que ele não vinha apenas do meu lado. eu sabia o risco que eu tomava por estar ali, por sentir tudo o que eu sentia, mas era o tipo de risco que eu queria correr e não havia muito que fosse me fazer parar. não que eu continuasse tentando morrer como já havia feito no início de tudo, eu não tinha mais o costume de me odiar ou continuar criando mais e mais cicatrizes por todo o meu corpo, mas também não era como se eu não estivesse ciente do que tudo aquilo poderia se tornar um dia.
eu não queria ouvir o que meu coração tinha a dizer, não agora que ele batia tão desesperado e dolorido por estar sentindo aquele tipo de coisa mais uma vez, mas pareci ficar surda com cada uma das suas batidas quando toda aquela cena acabou por se desenrolar em minha frente. não era algo que eu esperava, na verdade nenhuma de nós duas esperava, mas não era como se pudéssemos controlar todos aqueles sentimentos que nos abatiam de apenas uma vez durante aquele reencontro.
me levantei da cadeira na qual acabei me sentar para que pudesse me aproximar dela, meus passos cautelosos por não saber bem como lidar com a situação já que, de certa forma, eu também passava por ela. eu não queria a assustar mais, dizer que as coisas iriam ficar bem porque não poderíamos simplesmente controlar o rumo de tudo o que aconteceria, mas eu queria que pudéssemos chegar num ponto onde nenhum medo nos assolaria daquela forma. nós duas não merecíamos sentir tanto medo assim depois de tanto tempo.
“está tudo bem, eu não entendo isso mal.” falei ao me ajoelhar ao seu lado, acariciando suas costas com cuidado antes de chegar ao seus cabelos, onde deixei cafunés leves, imaginando que aquilo pudesse a acalmar em algum nível. “nós não precisamos tentar fazer isso se você não quiser, vienne, eu não irei a obrigar a ficar ou continuar, mas também não sairei do seu lado se quiser que eu fique.”
e devo admitir que eu não sabia bem como me portar naquela situação. digo, é muito complicado lidar com algum problema quando você também passa por ele, já que, se não consigo encontrar solução sequer pra mim, como eu poderia ajudá-la? eu não queria machucar vienne, não queria que isso acabasse sendo um incômodo para ela, mas eu sabia bem o quanto queria continuar com ela e o quanto que eu queria que aquele sentimento bom se mantivesse por muito mais tempo.
Certas coisas são capazes de machucar, outras de confundir por razões que o cérebro não consegue de fato conectar. É assim que se desenvolve medos! Se toda vez que uma pessoa sobe numa montanha um terremoto numa vila próxima ocorre, quando ela retornar ao seu grupo será com toda certeza punida por tal alto, seja coincidência ou não. Eventualmente dirá-se ás crianças que não subam na montanha, eventualmente punirão quem pensar em tentar subir, mas ninguém se lembrará a razão exata do porquê. Era isso tipo de coisa que estava corroendo sua mente presa por correntes: um medo de algo que pode acontecer ou não, mas que certamente não deve ocorrer por desastres passados ou só crendice e sandices.
Felizmente Vienne é só um gato escaldado que esqueceu que tipo de coisa teme. Esse medo de ter algo que teme felizmente não é algo tão torturante, poderia ser pior. Aceitar carinhos era algo que fazia bem, seu ego era uma das únicas coisas que permanecia igual ao seu eu infantil. Se bem que Vienne não era muito diferente de uma criança bem crescida com os olhos de uma velha que sabe que não deveria estar fazendo horas extras no mundo. Seus tremulares estavam aos poucos diminuindo com aqueles carinhos, sua garganta parecia menos seca, entretanto o medo de algo conhecido, porém esquecido ainda a praguejava, beliscava suas extremidades, mordiscava seus ossos e raspava o interior de suas veias.
— ... Esta nem mesmo é questão, Megan. Eu apenas sinto que algo não está correto. — Uma risada pouco convincente escapuliu de seus lábios, uma tática frouxa para se sentir melhor. — Talvez eu tenha falhado tantas vezes que ver algo que se assemelha à um sucesso fácil me assusta. — No fim acabou conseguindo se colocar numa melhor posição, pelo menos melhor para não ferir seu orgulho imenso com as costas retas e pernas cruzadas sob as saias. Ainda assim, o tombo a praguejava fortemente. — ... Muitas coisas ocorrem todos os dias, Megan. Eu sinto como se algo tivesse mudado lá atrás, é como se eu perdesse um pouco de minha vontade original, minha identidade, a cada dia que passa. Não possuo mais controle sobre muitas coisas que penso, digo ou faço. É assim que é a velhice de verdade? — Dois segundos de silêncio e gargalhou. Gargalhou jovialmente e de forma genuína, claramente perdendo seus lados pelo modo que se abraçou. — Ah, espera! Não tem como você saber, não é?! — Ah, essa foi a melhor das piadas. Vienne nunca experienciara a velhice, até mesmo sua fase final da adolescência fora bastante turbulenta, sua fase adulta foi jogada no lixo. Como saber o que é velhice? Perguntando para uma garota atemporal é que não é!
