hey guys friendly reminder from your fave Canadian that esk*mo is a slur so please donât use it!
I see it usually in the context of âesk*mo kissesâ which may pop up when people talk about their ships and their headcanon, but it means âsnow eatersâ in cree and is a slur against Inuit people so please just donât use it!
and I would appreciate if u reblogged this because people outside Canada donât seem to know this for the most part
Also if you want to refer to ââeskimo kissesââ and not use that term the Inuit term for it is ââkunikââ. Itâs a traditional greeting usually between relatives or a child and an adult, although itâs a little different from nose kisses so most Canadians call it ââInuit kissââ and Iâve heard other people call it ââbunny kissesââ. Either way thereâs no excuse to use ââeskimoââ in this context or another.
hi, Canadian here needing to correct the etymology at the beginning of this post, Esk*mo comes from the Ojibwa word ashkimeq which means âeaters of raw meatâ. Additionally, Esk*mo isnât only used as a slur against Inuit people but also against Iñupiat and Yupik people.
tl;dr just donât use the word :) the indigenous people of the Arctic are real people, not Halloween costumes/cartoon characters
I had an argument about this with an American friend. Cheese and cracker please dontâ use this!
Maybe itâs different now, but when I was a kid going to school in California my teachers used the word esk*mo as if that were an official culture name, in the same category as Navaho or Cree. People outside Canada really have no idea itâs a slur, and itâs a huge failing in the American school system.
Hi, actual Inuk here. Just don't use the damn word or "kunik" as an alternative. It's tacky if ur not Inuk and use to promote ur character ships or whatever.

I feel like we need to talk more about how white lesbians / bi women fetishize woc.
I remember seeing this post about how ~beautiful~ our racialized features are and going into detail about how gorgeous brown skin is and it was incredibly dramatic and cringey and i checked the source and op was a white bi woman. Going into detail about how much she loved brown skin. It was just so creepy.
And another time I saw a post saying something along the lines of âI love being a lesbian on blackout because it fills my dash with sexy black womenâ and op was white and that also made me feel so uncomfortable.
I feel like we often dismiss this as âlesbians donât have the male gazeâ which is obviously true but white lesbians / bi women do have the white gaze and therefore can (and often do) fetishize and objectify woc
We also talk about the way white gay men fetishize and objectify gay moc but not with white lesbians as much and I donât know why that is
(if youâre straight donât even touch this post)
TW: Assault/r*pe The first time I was assaulted was by a white bisexual girl who constantly made comments about my features and my body, specifically making explicit fetishizing comments about me being a native girl. I wasn't old enough/aware to name the type of violence but it was one of the single most traumatizing events in my life that led me to so many other retraumatizing acts. I don't fuck w white queers.
