I finally finished the last episode of Wishing Upon The Shooting Stars and what a ride it was. It's really a little gem and proves once again that Taiwanese BLs have my heart.
I especially enjoyed the journey of He Xiangyong to finally face his past wounds and learn that they are not meant to rule his entire life forever. He could just grow from them and overcome them without becoming someone different. As much as his new identity gave him a different "life" for a while, it didn't make him forget about his own past and when he started to not be recognized by anyone, he knew that he didn't want to be anyone else than himself. He learned to value his own life and see the worth of it. His life matters. He was and he is still loved. These people love him for who he is: with all his good qualities and flaws. He Xiangyong was so hurt by things in the past and he couldn't see it. He thought that if he were someone else, it would be easier, but his memories didn't disappear. He also overlooked the fact that he was loved as He Xiangyong. Perhaps, he also needed to love himself to truly enjoy his life. If people can love you, why not love yourself and see values in yourself. What they see in you, you must see it because it's there. He just couldn't see it. Perhaps, the wishes are not so bad if they can make you see the true value of yourself and your life.
I'm glad that in the end, everything turned out okay and that everyone got their happy ending. I don't know how I would have felt if they had a sad ending. It would have felt too sad.
