Sometimes it's an unfamiliar setting he has fabricated to catch her off guard. Galadriel retreats from him more quickly in these, and he knows she will. It's a wicked game, a reminder that, no matter how she resists, the darkness is ever grasping for her.
A reminder that the dull throbbing in her left shoulder will never truly cease.
But sometimes, it's a memory. Verbal sparring through jail cell bars. Quiet confessions on a fallen tree in the Southlands. A calloused hand on her shoulder with a promise to remember. She lingers in these, longer than she should, hoping the end will be different this time even though she knows it never can be.
Tonight's is a memory. She watches the flames of the Númenorean forge dance in the glistening eyes of her lost king as he whispers, deathly quiet:
What do you know of darkness?
This time, as he advances, she lets him corner her against the work table.
His kiss tastes like smoke, like the sea, like the tang of lightning that hangs heavy in the air after a storm. A sensation she cannot begin to name thrums throughout her entire being and settles low and hot in her belly.
He is going to consume her whole.
And this time, she is going to let him.

WHEW can you tell I'm deep in my Haladriel angst right now lol
For the first time in my fanart experience the writing actually came first (I got hit with the idea as we were coming home from Thanksgiving dinner tonight) and then the vision for the accompanying drawing came after. I'm not a writer, but I got possessed by this concept and just had to see it through. It's now after 1 AM and my eyes kind of hurt but l'm actually really pleased with this.

She cradled him against herself, breathing in the scent of him one last time, if only in a final effort to preserve the memory of the man she wanted to believe existed. Her friend. Her ally. Her lost king. Her Halbrand.
As he closed his eyes, a single tear rolled down his scruffy cheek. With a final exhale against the column of her throat that almost sounded like a chuckle, he whispered, “I would have placed a crown upon your head. I would never have rested until all Middle-earth had been brought to its knees, to worship the light of its Queen.”
Then the Dark Lord Sauron stirred no more.
And Galadriel wept.
(Got inspired by one of my art idols @galaxyspeaking to try my hand at writing a little blurb to go along with the drawing! I’m not much of a writer though so I apologize for the clumsiness of it all.

Just been thinking about High King Isildur 🥺 I know by the time he became king he was much older but I just kept envisioning Maxim Baldry in this armor and I needed to sketch it out!
