She had a way of seeing the beauty in others, even, and perhaps most especially, when that person couldn’t see it in themselves.

Eli doesn’t know what he does to invoke the memory from her– he’d been minding his own business, ready to run or be chased, and then her (admittedly welcoming) voice had broke the stiff silence that had settled. Looking at her, he tries to understand where she’s coming from. It’s hard– he didn’t exactly grow up with a warm, close bunch. His quiet was never warm. It was always cold– maintained not by respect or reverence but restriction and order. “… Quiet is nice. Terrifyin’, now, but nice. Y’all aren’t really a talkative bunch, are you?”
"Terrifying?" She quirks her head to the side, not unlike a canine expressing their innocent confusion towards their owner. "I don't know about you, but the background noise of moans lost it's appeal a couple months ago," Though a sudden ambush didn't fail to send a dose of adrenaline coursing through her veins. But the moments they could snatch where running and hiding were second to a semi-leisurely trek through Arizona, well, those she'd take in a heartbeat. Her gaze stayed upon him before gradually lowering, brow creasing in contemplation.
"No, I suppose we aren't. Aside from me, everyone else tends to... focus more on what's ahead. Or, maybe there just isn't much to talk about?" They were practically being forced out of what most had been calling 'home' for months. Even leaving Scottsdale itself, leaving the place she had grown, and in many ways died recently. She didn't feel sorrow - just, a simple nostalgia.

shiloh’s never been good with… social interaction. but.. things are kind of quiet at the moment, and she figures she might as well get to know the people who’ve taken her in. so, she pulls her knees closer to her chest and leans forward a bit, looking over at the person beside her. “…uh–” she swallows. “what’d you used to do? before all this, i mean..”
Small talk is very rarely awkward for Piper. As someone who finds it increasingly difficult to keep her mouth shut on a regular basis, under the current circumstances, the majority of the group's silence is near deafening. Before she's just about to attempt tucking in for the night, a voice beside her catches the lingering attention. Her lips spread into a wide smile, seemingly cheery as well as unsettling behind the fire-cast shadows dancing across her expression. "I was a botanist; studied abroad for a few years before settling down as a Park Ranger at Yosemite for a while. That was before I really... knew what I wanted to do with my life, I guess. And you?"
“You know this actually reminds me of when my family took hikes, down in Saguaro. We always went on the off seasons though, having too many people around ruined the whole experience,” Piper tilted her head up towards the beaming Arizona sun, for once thankful of the rays instead of worrisome about developing a wicked sun burn. “There are a lot of people now, too but, it’s still quiet. Sure we sang songs and played games on the car ride, and the initial trail to start but, when we were quiet? Taking in all the sun-baked beauty, with my family? That was what made the trip memorable for me,”
✮ —————— SUPERGIRL SENTENCE STARTERS.
’ This is… this is great news! ’ ’ Hey, get away from the ledge, you’re gonna get hurt. ’ ’ This one has the “S”. For “Super”, just like your cousin. ’ ’ I just can’t hear you over the loud color of your cheap pants. ’ ’ I’m the hero. ’ ’ Oh, God. Is that smell you? ’ ’ I see you share your cousin’s appetite for wanton destruction. ’ ’ Three showers and I still smell of reek oil. ’ ’ I went from superhero to eco-terrorist in a single bound. ’ ’ I am not doing that interview. ’ ’ How can you be so sure? ’ ‘ I watched it happen for years with your cousin. ’ ’ Reading glasses and a good slouch? ’ ’ I see a city full of people who need help. Who need a hero. ’ ’ Oh, no. I’m sorry. I meant to say who are you? ’ ’ Trademark pending. ’ ’ Have you lost your mind? ’ ’ What were you thinking giving interviews? ’ ’ It was more of a private conversation that’s being published. ’ ’ What’s next? A book deal? A reality show? “Keeping Up with the Kryptonians”? ’ ’ When did you even call him/her? The second I left? ’ ’ I made a promise to your cousin. If anything ever happened to you… ’ ’ I’m just trying to keep you safe. ’ ’ It wasn’t supposed to be this way. ’ ’ Your story… Your story is just starting. ’ ’ I’m just dealing with an escaped alien prisoner. ’ ’ You’ve spent more time in the Friend Zone than the Phantom Zone. ’ ’ I am not in the Friend Zone. ’ ’ Well… did you notice any of her/his other attributes? ’ ’ Tell me, what do you think makes her/him a hero? ’ ’ What can I get you? Or are you not allowed to drink and fly? ’ ’ I was surprised, you’re usually a little more glib. ’ ’ You said, tonight, you always build in fail safes. ’ ’ I would never barter a child’s life. ’ ’ I just can’t figure out why you did it. ’ ’ For the record, I care about everyone. ’ ’ You may have fooled this city, but I know you were behind this. ’ ’ Finally, something we can agree on. ’ ’ The fun is just beginning. ’ ’ Can you hack into hospital records? ’ ’ Easy-peasy, fresh and squeezy… ’ ’ You were really mad, at something else. ’ ’ You need to find, find that anger behind the anger. ’ ’ You let that thing get away. I thought you were on our side. ’ ’ It fought harder this time, harder. Faster. ’ ’ It’s like it knew you’d choose to save those people. ’ ’ Would you like me to call your mother a car? ’ ’ I am the sole survivor of my planet. ’ ’ You never get sick. That’s the best part about you. ’ ’ Bow your head when you approach me! ’ ’ Are you sure you want to do this? ’ ’ It’s time for us to be a family again. ’ ’ You’re gonna wish I’d died with the rest of them! ’ ’ But can you look me in the eye and tell me that you are prepared to kill? ’ ’ I’m very boring and really normal. ’ ’ So, um, I’ll just get out of your hair. ’ ’ You know, you guys could have told me. I can keep a secret. ’ ’ I know there’s nothing anyone can say to make you feel better right now. ’ ’ We are going to bring this thing in together. ’ ’ I’m not leaving you alone with that thing. ’ ’ That is not some anonymous alien you’ve brought in. ’ ’ You’re compromising the security of this entire operation. ’ ’ I would think you’d understand that better than anyone. ’ ’ It is what makes you a hero! ’ ’ That’s the difference between soldiers and heroes. ’ ’ You waisted your ammo. ’ ’ Without you, the world is a better place! ’ ’ Without me, you’d be dead! ’ ’ Please remember I would never try and hurt you. ’ ’ I hate a generic sports metaphor, but that interview was a touchdown. ’ ’ You wanna fight about it? ’ ‘ I have too much self-esteem to kill myself. ’ ’ I’m making stupid mistakes, like today. ’ ’ The public will forgive you, I promise. ’ ’ Ah, you do have a cell phone? Can I get that number, please? ’ ’ You think I wanna do this? It’s the only way to win. ’ ‘ I mean, that was terrible, but it was awesome. ’ ’ We’ve never saved anything together. ’ ’ I’ve dreamt of this moment. The two of us teaming up. ’ ’ Um, not exactly sure you have to tell them that. ’ ’ I can’t believe I didn’t see it before. ’ ’ This is it for me, this is my calling. ’ ’ The enemy has come in the guise of heroes. ’ ’ You don’t get a chair ‘cause you don’t work here. ’ ’ They have not left you, even in the face of death. ’ ’ You ever spend time inside a foster home? ’ ’ So just chill with the attitude, okay? ’ ’ How can you, of all people, say that? ’ ’ I know what you’re gonna say. I should have waited for you. ’ ’ You didn’t give me a story, you gave me a half-baked idea. ’ ’ I got the impression you didn’t want to spend time with me. ’ ’ So, I memorized that fake ID for nothing? ’ ’ I was shooting some hoops last night and hurt some ribs. ’ ’ My whole life, I have been a sidekick. ’ ’ I hate to break it to you, dude, but you don’t have superpowers. ’ ’ I have a black belt and you’re right, I don’t have powers. ’ ’ What do you have against a good old romantic comedy? ’ ’ Yeah, your punk rock phase was very strange. ’ ’ Are you slurring your words? ’

avramisms:
“Aren’t you tired of thinking that, though?”
Ethan didn’t know why he responded, why he spoke up his dissent. Wouldn’t know later even, when he thought back on the day. The only thing at this time that he really knew was the exhaustion pooled under his eyes and the permanent, heavy swell in his chest. And that hearing that things could’ve been worse, which in theory should have comforted him, only tugged the corners of his lips down. Things could be a lot worse, yeah, imagining himself– of imagining everyone– at an even lower point than they were now was just… It wasn’t comforting. It was looming.
“’It could be worse’, ‘it’s just this’, ‘it’s just that’. It’s all stuff that shouldn’t have happened. None of it. You know?”
Piper barely picked her head up at the response, her own voice taking on a slightly acidic tone when delivering a reply, "I've learned to deal with it. I'd think you would have too, after all this time,"
There isn't a doubt in her mind - of anyone's mind, for that matter, how incredibly wrong this existence is. To die but, never truly stop living. It baffled her nearly every single day when the outbreak first started, even through her outwardly optimistic demeanor, a mixture of confusion, hurt and fear lie just beneath the surface of her psyche. She wondered if that was worse, when in comparison to the war her body waged now - physically and mentally, unstable, teetering on the edge of sanity by nothing more than a rusty unicycle.
"It's not like they took any of your people after all. They minded their business, everyone else should have done the same," Pushing herself up from the crouched position beside her pack, she slung it over a shoulder and tossed Ethan a cross frown.
"If people stopped prying, things would be a lot better for everyone,"
