It's clipped from a September 2020 interview he did with Bold American Podcast (ZBT #301: Pill Poppin Robots and An Interview With Nate Fick from Generation Kill.)

Other assorted fun facts: One of the hosts worked with Brad, so Brad's brought up multiple times and Nate calls him a good guy to have. He also mentions Brad's attempt to get his turret shield as something that command seriously didn't like at first, about the initial pushback against OBA, about what he thinks makes for good leadership, and he also says that giving the order for the bridge ambush is still something he regrets, almost twenty years later.

I won't lie and say I didn't think it was a fun interview, but as a general rule, I'm not a podcast person, I especially don't want to support Barstool, and I skipped everything in this episode before the Fick interview, so you know. Listen to the show at your own risk.

i have now listened to this interview a few times; such a satisfying listen, and gave me too many feels

here's all the Brad mentions

[1:02:40] 'I think the two best ranks in the Marine Corps are probably sergeant and lieutenant if you are a squad leader and platoon commander' like c'mon sir we know who you are thinking here

the host jumps right on it and mentions Colbert by name [1:02:55], and Fick goes 'oh, whoa,' you could just about hear the man getting flooded by memories, and then immediately shows his bias by saying ''he's a good man to have with you when something like that (a firefight) happens"

[1:04:30] the news anchor anecdote, so funny, and @jenkil is right: when the host busts a lung and interjects 'c'mon that's Brad, that's Colbert' Fick raises his voice to finish the story but absolutely does not refute the conjecture in any way. so i think we can feel pretty safe to consider that cannon

[1:08:35] the host brings up the 'bomb in the garden' incident, and Fick lays down a red carpet of context that leads up to 'it was Brad Colbert's team who crawled in there put a charge on the RPG and blew it up' showing just how much pride he had in Brad and his men for trying to do the right thing

the host asks about the adjustments the marines on the ground had to make under a command that was still feeling out its way at the start of the war[1:16:00], Fick brings up Brad and his custom ordered turret mount, which i thought never got to him on account of the logistics fuck-up but apparently the higher-ups thought it was too 'cowboy' and maybe pulled the plug on it? and then Fick mentions Brad again [1:17:29] along with Lovell and Espera for being the source of tactical innovations; 'you don't learn quickly from the top down, you learn quickly from the bottom up,' 'the future is already here it's just unevenly distributed.'
