Watching that episode with my parents who I’m not out to was borderline impossible (not quite sure how i kept the tears away), so thank you Heidi!

Here we are in 2023, 55 years after the episode is set, still facing fears. Yes things are better than they were in regards to the law but as nurse crane so rightly said, “it’s not laws that rule this country, it’s attitudes”.

People still fear showing who they are, fear what people will say to them or about them, fear that they will lose people purely based on how they identify. When people ask me why i love this show, I usually don’t have a reason, but this is the reason, it’s power to make people talk and reflect on our current situation. No other show that has a prime time sunday slot that is advertised as a family show has the guts to write about the things call the midwife do, and in so many ways I’m glad because nobody could do it as sensitively and as beautiful as this show.
