My Brooklyn follows director Kelly Anderson's journey, as a Brooklyn gentrifier, to understand the forces reshaping her neighborhood. The film documents the redevelopment of Fulton Mall, a bustling African-American and Caribbean commercial district that - despite its status as the third most profitable shopping area in New York City - is maligned for its inability to appeal to the affluent residents who have come to live around it. As a hundred small businesses are replaced by high rise luxury housing and chain retail, Anderson uncovers the web of global corporations, politicians and secretive public-private partnerships that drive seemingly natural neighborhood change. The film's ultimate question is increasingly relevant on a global scale: who has a right to live in cities and determine their future?

Style Wars(1983)

Style Wars is a 1983 documentary on hip hop culture, directed by Tony Silver and produced in collaboration with Henry Chalfant. The film has an emphasis on graffiti, although bboying and rapping are covered to a lesser extent. The film was originally aired onPBS television in 1983, and was subsequently shown in several film festivals to much acclaim, including the Vancouver Film Festival. Un documental de Amal Ramsis (Egipto/España, 2011, 67' min) Tres meses antes de la revolución del 25 de enero de 2011 en Egipto, la realizadora de este documental anduvo sola por las calles de El Cairo con su cámara, filmando a escondidas lejos de los ojos de la policía y buscando refugio en casas de amigos, quienes le hablaron sobre todo aquello que está prohibido en la sociedad egipcia: hablar, filmar, escribir o pensar. Es un testimonio del Egipto antes de la revolución del 25 de enero y que aborda qué implica la palabra “PROHIBIDO”, una palabra que se escenifica en infinitos aspectos de la vida cotidiana. La respuesta a muchas preguntas llega con la revolución que coincide con el último día del montaje de este documental.

GARBAGE DREAMS 

 "Garbage Dreams" follows three teenage boys born into the trash trade and growing up in the world's largest garbage village, on the outskirts of Cairo. It is the home to 60,000 Zaballeen, Arabic for "garbage people." Far ahead of any modern "Green" initiatives, the Zaballeen survive by recycling 80 percent of the garbage they collect. When their community is suddenly faced with the globalization of its trade, each of the teenage boys is forced to make choices that will impact his future and the survival of his community.
