Specialities: He’s highly skilled with a variety of tools and woodworking, as well as some types of sculpture and gardening. He has a hell of a green thumb. Aboard the ship, though, he mostly uses his skills to keep things repaired and running smoothly, scavenging supplies as needed. 

Languages: Fluent in French Sign Language and Atlantean, can understand and somewhat read/write French and some English, among bits and pieces of other languages spoken by his crewmates, but he himself is nonverbal above water.

How long they’ve been a pirate: Around six years 

Why they’re a pirate: In Atlantis he’d been a coral shaper, an architect, and he should have been perfectly happy. Should have been. But deep inside, curiosity ate at him, flavoring his days with discontent and frustration. What was out there, beyond the bounds of the city? What experiences was he missing out on, at the bottom of the ocean, watching shadow plays upon the walls?  When he finally hit the surface he was scooped up by a pirate crew, and used his architectural knowledge and keen attention to detail to make himself invaluable. Years later, he’s been passed along and makes his bed on a different ship, but he relishes the air upon his skin all the same.

 Reason for Sailing: To avoid being eaten by bigger fish. That is to say, they’re under the thumb of a much larger and scarier ship, the Siren’s Maw. 

Condition of Ship: A small sloop in relatively good condition-- it’s seen a few battles and has a few dings, but it’s been repaired well and still maneuvers beautifully. It has minimal technological upgrades outside of a suspiciously advanced kitchen. 

Size of Crew: Currently operating at twelve, but always recruiting.

Enemies: Any enemies of the Siren’s Maw, apparently.

Specialities: She’s been working on ships since she was very young, so she knows a decent amount about how they’re run. More specifically, her area of expertise is cannons and ship combat. Having started out as a powder monkey for the British Royal Navy, she also got some combat training, various other survival skills, and is very good at disguising herself as a man when the need arises. 

Languages: English (fluent speaking/semi-literate), basic conversational French and Spanish (speaking only), and some phrases of other languages picked up through exposure

How long they’ve been a pirate: About two years 

Why they’re a pirate: She made a convenient scapegoat when her commanding officer was caught making deals with pirates. After that, it became escape with said pirates or face unjust punishment. The choice was easy. It only took a little bit of dealing to buy her way onto the Damned Disgrace, and two years later she’d happily die for any of her crewmates and the new sense of freedom they’ve taught her.

Specialities: She can learn languages at a fast rate. She is proficient in using a spear, from years of spearfishing. She knows how to make spears, as well. She can hold her breath underwater for a little over six minutes.

Languages: Her mother tongue is Sinama, the Sama Badjau language. She learned to speak Tausug, Cebuano, Tagalog, and Malay while she was growing up to aide in selling the goods they brought in from different islands of the area. When she was taken, Hiyas eventually learned to speak Spanish, although her accent is very prominent.

How long they’ve been a pirate: TBA

Why they are a pirate: Hiyas feels home in the open sea, she can never stay on dry land for too long. Hiyas originally belonged to the Sama Mandilaut tribe, the sea-nomads of Southeast Asia. Her people never owned any land. The sea had always been their home. Once when she was selling products in the island of Cebu, a Spanish colonizer saw Hiyas and decided he wanted her as a wife. Hiyas had no choice but to give in to the Spaniard’s demand, lest she lose her life and endanger her family’s life. She was baptized the same day she was married. A year into the marriage, Hiyas is brought to mainland Spain. She stayed in spain for two years, learning about the culture. But the sea called to her. Her husband returned to the Philippines, and she came out to the docks to see him off. But Hiyas never came back to their house after that day. She did however, come home to the sea.

Specialities: All the handicrafts of a true Safavid Persian lady: she paints, she sings, she sews, she dances. Oh, and she can tell if any sort of gem is fake or real from a mile away. She’s pretty keen with precious metals, too - no Fool’s Gold is fooling her. As for keeping herself safe - she's got seven older brothers, and knows how to chuck a dagger or two.

Why they’re a pirate: NOT A PIRATE, BUT - she has been captured by the Damned Disgrace. The ship she was on was set for France, chock full with Azar’s dowry in diamonds, gold, and jewels. Meant for a Lord, and now in the hands of…dirty pirates. Yet she’s the only one who knows the real from the fake - and that’s her ticket to life, and perhaps freedom.

Specialities: Jane’s a bit of a jack-of-all-trades. She possesses a steep learning curve and a tenacious perfectionistic streak, and already came on board with a knack for thievery, con artistry, cooking, and a willingness to shed blood. But she’s really proved her consistent, economical value on the ship through her unique vigor for organization and ability to facilitate efficient communication with the rest of the ship. Her exponential rise is impressive considering her youth and comparative inexperience. 

Her latest obsession has been with navigation. On top of that ambition, she’s refining her combat skills and finds the training cathartic. She’s not too shabby at carpentry either, but it’s not her favorite thing. She enjoys jumping around the ship and understanding others’ roles, even if she does not strive to be a master at them herself. Because of her natural curiosity, her knowledge is also well-rounded enough so she can understand the ship as a whole. Her education on the ship has also led her to establish consistent contact with the other ship members. All this lends heavily into her proficiency as a boatswain.

Pirate Alias: (Tbh, this is more so what he's gotten dubbed, and less than what people actually call him. So more like the name of a 'legend' than an actual nickname but WHATEVER) But there's a murmur out there of "Oscuro Profundo". To some, it's a whispered tale to tell young sailors; a ghost story to scare them shitless. For others, they swear they've seen him climb out of dark waters and onto their ships, massacring whoever got in his way. Either way, "the Deep Dark" seems to be more myth than man.

Why they're a pirate: She left her life of wealth of privilege as a means of escape, as she felt the freest on the open seas. She joined a pirate crew when she was seventeen and worked at the bottom of the rungs and moved upwards until she became her captain’s quartermaster. When their captain perished at the hands of the british, the crew of the Marama voted and chose Veda as their new captain, who has brought about greater success than they had had before and recently overtook another pirate ship and raided their ship, brought over some of the crew members they saw fit and willing and had the others walk the plank before blowing up the ship

Why they’re a pirate: Like little in Tiago's life, it wasn't by choice; he was captured by pirates after his previous captors (a Spanish galleon transporting him from Campeche to Havana) were ambushed and the mighty warship was disabled and all precious cargo was unloaded before it was sunk; including him. From that moment, he's been deemed a pirate by any crown, and he's unsure how to feel about it.

Reason for Sailing: To discover, restore her father’s ship, and maybe her family’s infamy and wealth in the process 

Condition of Ship: It's big, a former prized Navy frigate, and has the air of “this could’ve been beautiful once” but now it’s just terrible and sad. But it still runs. Sorta. 

Size of Crew: Can comfortably fit probably 30ish, considering its size, but currently only three since Reena hasn’t had much luck recruiting and nobody wants to be crew on a ship that looks like it didn’t survive hell 

Enemies: Reena has a personal vendetta for the crew that fucked up her family’s reputation, but beyond that, The Blessed Gem hasn’t made any enemies... yet. She knows they’ll have made it when they do, though.

How long they’ve been a pirate: Nineteen years, so almost all of her life for the most part, save for a period of a few years after her parents’ deaths where she had to rejoin civilization as a law-abiding citizen to make some income. Which, of course, didn’t last very long because piracy is in her blood. 

Why they’re a pirate: Her father was a former Royal Navy officer but left to be with her mother who introduced him to a life of piracy. When they had Reena, her father stole off with a prized Navy frigate that their crew had overtaken and fled in the night with his family and a few crew members who had decided to help him break a golden rule: being stupid enough to steal from pirates. A flourishing fifteen years followed for The Blessed Gem, which Reena’s father had named after her as a symbol of good luck, but it didn’t last. The crew they’d stolen from found them again and left two survivors: Reena and her father, who died shortly after, heartbroken over the death of his wife and crewmates and the destruction and decommission of his ship. All alone, Reena decided to restore The Blessed Gem after she financially got back on her feet and set out for the seas in search of new adventures... with a side of revenge.

How long they’ve been a pirate: About six months 

Why they’re a pirate: His parents sent him and his older brother up to the surface world over three decades ago in order to spy on the humans and make sure they weren’t getting too close to discovering Atlantis. They pretended to be orphans, “Jonathan” and “Raymond”, and his brother enlisted at the beginning of the War of Spanish Succession in 1701 -- and died, leaving Jonathan Ward alone. He debated returning to Atlantis but his parents had given him and his brother a task, and he was determined to continue. Raymond’s death made things harder to hide Atlantean existence from the humans; he’d been carrying Atlantean technology on his person. Jonathan couldn’t get the technology back, but there was something he could do: keep pretending to be human, working from the inside to make sure humans didn’t go looking for more of Atlantean technology or, worse, the city itself. It took a long time, but after long years of blending in with humans and learning their culture and ways of living, Jonathan was able to fill an empty spot as a navigator and return to the sea - but as a pirate instead of just an Atlantean.

Why they're a pirate: The simple answer would be that Marco always felt a longing to be elsewhere. There were nights that he’d have his parents worried shitless because he laid on the shore of some beach just staring at the stars until sunrise. He is impulsive to a fault and loves anything that presents a challenge. After completing his college education and being faced with the idea of having to start a regular life, he decided to sell most of his possessions and head to the docks to put his skills to use on the open seas — anything beats being stuck in the same town doing the same things every day. But also, as a blossoming gay™, there was no resisting the appeal of being on a boat for months at a time with rugged lawless men.
