kara and clark being so certain of their love for each other that they're willing to bet their lives on the fact that they'd never hurt, let alone kill, one another... yeah.

To me, the most compelling scene in the new Supergirl was when Kara speaks with her father after seeing that he is making her an escape pod. The dialogue is in Kryptonian. And that is the most poignant and elegant dialogue in the film to me. Kara's lines and the emotion put into her saying to him, "I am only one tiny life," and her calm, clear articulation of her vision of herself being allowed to die beside her people and her mother and father was so profound and existential. And when he explains why they need to her live, you know she would agree. The price, the sheer weight, the endless gravity of that is so obvious. I am honestly not used to that depth in these superhero films. Both her desire and that of her parents felt so authentic. That conveyed tragedy and profound love. An impossible situation. A critical, defining experience. That was the heart of her character to me. When she flew up into space to scream in silence, that was a compelling image. That dialogue, though, hit me deep in my soul. This film would have been worth it for that exchange alone for me. I just can't think of anything I've seen that was like that before.

It’s recently been found that even hive insects rest. Bees will play with colorful toys. Ants sleep for about 1 minute but they do it so frequently it amounts to a few hours per day. Even trees take breaks.

The only things that work without rest are machines; literally everything that lives requires rest.

robots require very frequent breaks! welding machines generally have it programmed in that they can’t run so long they melt themselves. ive overseen two different manufacturing robots now and each of them were fragile, finicky idiots that require constant maintenance and repair. they pause in between moves, in between jobs. you’re always keeping an eye on programming errors, on coolant levels, on heat. you’re always pulling bits of scrap out of joints, sweeping up debris, washing off nozzles and untangling hoses. and even then it snaps a chain and takes a whole morning’s vacation.

even robots need downtime.

okay but i love lois' (heartwarming) hypocrisy in superman 2025. during the interview she makes the point that clark should have stepped back and considered the political ramifications before interfering in jarhanpur. that she would question herself in his position, that she doesn't know for a fact what boravia's intentions were, that superman's actions could have started a war

except when lois is in the same position, guess what? the video of clark's kryptonian parents comes out and lois still says she never doubted that clark's intentions are good for a moment (to quote her directly, re: boravia: she thinks that's almost certainly the case, but does she know that? no she doesn't.)

and she keeps acting on that belief. because then clark turns himself in and gets arrested by the department of justice. and lois not only immediately writes a front-page exposé on america violating the geneva conventions (as an investigative journalist, this is lois' equivalent of superman smashing up a few tanks and planes and some other stuff), oh no, homegirl marches into the hq of three metahumans and tries to bully them into helping her basically commit treason to get him out because "he's your friend"

oh and never mind that it would be potentially starting political beef with the us government. and boravia. and an arms-dealing billionaire. and given public opinion on superman, it could potentially spark even worse anti-metahuman sentiment and conflict, especially if the justice gang's actions were taken to stand for the policy of all metahumans (the same way as superman's actions being taken as representing america in jarhanpur, for example...?). nevermind that it's still not proven that superman isn't there to rule over anybody, she just has clark's word for it and nothing else, but she's taken it completely at face-value and never doubted him even though she doesn't know what his intentions are, she just believes she does. but she never steps back to question whether what she's doing is right, or pauses to coordinate with the doj or foreign office or any government authority (save for trying to get information out of her contacts re: superman's location). clark is hurt, clark is in danger, clark needs help, power is being abused and people are going to get hurt, so lois acts.

iconic. unhinged. i love her.

(and then she tries to tell mr terrific that she doesn't know how she feels about clark. like he didn't just witness her taking on the us federal government in a front-page article, yelling at the justice gang, and actively preparing to go spelunking in a pocket universe.)

Something that annoys me whenever people talk about MCU Spiderman nowadays is when they say shit like "Finally, he's not relying on Iron Man anymore" or "He's nor longer Iron Boy"

Last time Peter was actually dependant on Tony's tech was in fucking Homecoming (You can count Infinity War if you really want to nitpick)

Tony never even wanted Peter to be reliant on his tech, that's why he installed the training wheel protocol that nerfed the suit. The point of Spiderman Homecoming was to prove that Peter could be his own hero without Iron Man or his tech. Tony only wanted to use his tech to help guide Peter into becoming a better Spider-Man, which he does.

Peter continuing to use Stark Tech after Homecoming doesn't diminish what he went through. Using an advantage you have access to isn't the same as being dependent on it.

Far From Home wasn't about Peter becoming the "Next Iron Man" it was about him becoming a Hero that the world & MCU could rely on as a Symbol.

He lost his title of "Iron Man Junior" long before No Way Home but people were apparently watching these movies covering their eyes and ears or something so they could have something to complain about. It took him losing everything and everyone around him for people to switch up on him. It's like how those Deku Haters switched up when Deku was in his Vigilante phase and he was barely different from how he usually was.

To quote a YouTuber I like "Y'all dogged on him until he became edgy, that's crazy"

Finally finished the next Hex Girl, Luna! I love how her design came out, I think her look meshed really well with Mira’s!

Hex Girls x HUNTR/X, my two favorite magical girl groups! Here’s Dusk as Zoey, I hope to do the whole group but I’ve been working on another project that takes up most of my free time during the week so Saturday is the only day I can work on this piece. I’m so happy with how it came out though! I think it’s a good blend of Dusks design and Zoey’s!
