Why is that? Do they celebrate holidays, just not the ones this time of year? Do they not celebrate any holidays at all? Or perhaps they live in a world where these holidays just simply don’t exist?

bickering over which christmas movie is superior
I was browsing through other people's writing yesterday, when I suddenly came across this chapter excerpt, and let me tell you: it was written phenomenally. I mean, it just blew my mind, and it was no more than a few paragraphs. The vocabulary/language usage was perfect. The insight on the character's feelings was so believable. The tension built in just a few sentences was palpable!
I was crushed.
How could I ever stack up to something like that at my young age? I'd have to be editing my trilogy for years if I ever wanted to be that good, right? But I realized something this morning. . .
She is not telling the same story I am.
Her writing is supposed to have a consistently intense, dramatic, and mysterious prose. She can use strong words that aren't normally used in everyday life. She needs to have a lingering sense of mystery and drama. The story she is telling calls for certain stylistic choices, and just because mine doesn't have those elements doesn't make it worse in comparison.
My story, or rather, my genre, calls for very different elements. It's magical. It's funny. It's lighthearted (mostly). It's not being written for the same audience that the other user is writing for, and maybe that's what the root issue is with so many writers on Writeblr who struggle with insecurity and comparison. They're comparing their work to an entirely different genre! They're comparing two works that aren't even comparable!
Here's my two cents for today: remember what kind of story you're telling, not the person next to you. You tell the story that you need to tell, because nobody will ever be able to tell it like you!

remembering little details when shopping for them (certain brands of tissues that don't irritate their nose, flavors of cough drops/lozenges they prefer, etc.)
wincing when they speak for the first time after a while and their voice is so hoarse/rough
"what are you doing out of bed?" "for the love of god, i need to pee."
sacrificing their own comfort for the one that's unwell (ex: they usually need the a.c on at night, but they sleep without it to keep the other warm)
"if you're like this tomorrow, i'm calling the doctor."
massaging their head/stomach when in pain
protecting their peace when friends and family are around ("no, don't wake them! they're sick.")
giving in to anything they want because they feel terrible for how they're feeling

“say you won’t let go” - some touch starved scenarios

heart pounding whenever the other does so much as to hold onto their wrist while guiding them through a crowd
one just casually sitting down on the other's lap and they start internally freaking the hell out
hesitantly tugging the other's fabric of their shirt or sleeve, testing the waters
^^ the other notices so they pull them into a hug, smiling as they just watch them melt
"wait, don't go, please.."
"is this okay?" "it's more than okay."
already barely holding it together as they're getting their hand held but then they feel that reassuring squeeze and they just can't
wearing the others' clothes so that it can at least feel like they're hugging them, even for just a moment
feeling so lonely that they have to call their lover/friend, just to get a sense and reminder that they're still there
^ trying and failing to hold back their tears as they do so
"can i have one more hug?" "aw, babe you don't have to ask, c'mere..."
when the other holds onto their waist briefly as they're passing by and it just send chills down their spine
breaking down mid-hug because they just needed this so much
their breath hitching whenever the other gets a little closer
^ feeling crushed when that action is taken as a sign of discomfort, and they watch them slowly back off
holding onto a stuffed animal/pillow, imagining that it's their lover in their embrace instead
one leaning their head onto the other's shoulder suddenly and they just freeze

Your OC is valid.
Sometimes it can be hard on this website to see other OCs (I think particularly artists ones that people can physically see) or ones that belong to popular blogs all over the feed to a point where people joke about them being practically ‘canon’ when you’re a smaller creator who can’t draw, or hasn’t even written a fic for your OC. You don’t have to have content for you le OC for them to exist to you. They matter just as much as the OCs who get fanarts from different creators.

Since it's october now and I'm having thoughts, I threw together this list of autum/halloween prompts. Send me some for existing oc ships! (specify which category please) (And reblog if you wanna :3)
🍫🍷🌰Food:
1: Going to a baker and picking out goods, like pumpkin pie
2: Cooking with pumpkins
3: Picking out spooky candies and treats for trick or treaters- or just for themselves
4: Doing a class on baking together
5: Foraging for mushrooms and chestnuts in the forest
6: Pulling a warm pie out of the oven and sharing it over a hot beverage
7: Sharing a bottle of mulled wine when it's cold outside (bonus if huddling together to stay warm)
8: Roasting marshmallows and melting chocolate
9: Trying new foods at a market- it's either good or something they'd rather not try again
10: Harvesting apples and pears at an orchard to eat later

1: Visiting an autumn themed market and picking up some pleasantries
