The Potionomics Blind Art/Fic Trade is officially starting!

Think secret santa, but in summer! You'll make something for a fellow Potionomics fan, and someone will make something for you in turn. Visual art, writing, and crafts are all art, all skill levels are welcome, and every Potionomics character, ship, and OC are fair game. Low-key and low-pressure. Shoot for something you can finish in a couple of sittings. (but if you're having fun, you don't have to limit yourself)

Potionomics OC ahoy!

I've been fortunate enough to commission @art-crosternum again, and I have to gush because any day I get to celebrate their work is a fantastic day.

Look at her. Look at her!

This is Cordelia: Finn x Sylvia fan kid and certified adorable little goober.

Or, as I like to think of her, the hypothetical fan kid, because imo these two are not rushing toward parenthood. Sylvia is neck-deep in building up her shop and becoming the best potion-maker in Rafta. Finn is basically reinventing himself from the ground seabed up, building a whole new career and identity in real time. Kids? They're not thinking about kids. They've got bigger fish to fry! (and plenty to enjoy and be fulfilled about)

(My secret, truer hc is that they're childfree and genuinely fine with it. Incompatible in terms of kids, and neither of them is grieving that. Yes, I hold both of these ideas simultaneously. I contain multitudes.)

But. If they did have a kid—if somehow the stars aligned—here she is!

Some design/character notes because I'm in love with her:

Because I am not interested in the Disney approach where a child is simply a palette-swapped clone of one parent with the other's eye color etc, Cordelia is a true hybrid. Human complexion, but with shark countershading running along her dorsal side. Sylvia's eyes. Finn's ears. Sylvia's teeth. Finn's huge-ass mouth, god help her. And that hair! Sylvia is privately, deeply grateful that her daughter inherited her father's luxurious hair (semi-tamed by a cornucopia of themed barrettes and bobby pins). And there's a ghost of Sylvia living in the ombre; a violet gradient most visible in warm light.

The overalls. Listen. When your kid has a tail, pants are an engineering problem. The overalls button up in the back where the tail emerges, which keeps them secure and means she can dress herself (mostly) (theoretically) (she's a kid, things happen). But also! The overalls are basically kiddy suspenders. Dad's signature look, shrunken down and cutified.

The dragonegg citrus pattern is SO GOOD asldgal;kd.

Speaking of the tail, it's small. Approximately one arm-length. Not terribly powerful, but functional enough to help swim and there enough to cause problems with chairs and clothing etc. Fantasy genetics have reawakened the human tailbone here (shaking my fist at Finn's bifurcated spine lmao). Also it broadcasts her emotions whether she likes it or not: a bit of wag when happy, rigid when angry, tucked when nervous… Which is a REAL problem for a kid who inherited competitive gab from both parents and occasionally needs to lie bluff.

She has big ol' hands. Both her parents have notably large hands for their builds, thus—oversized mitts on a four-year-old. Slightly webbed, always full of something. Rocks. Shells. Bugs she found and is keeping. Unidentified bits and bobs from the ocean floor. She comes home from water time with her pockets stuffed and there's a bowl somewhere in the shop that's just Cordelia's Collection of Important Treasures and nobody is allowed to throw any of it out.

The anklet. In-game, Finn makes Sylvia an anklet from his grandmother's shark tooth. Cordelia has her own: three hand-me-down teeth on a cord with a couple of beads. Simple, sturdy, handmade by dad. The sharp teeth she wears instead of grew. 😭

She's a kid first! This was huge for me. When you look at her you see a messy-haired child in overalls who's mid-way through convincing you she's not trying any sort of scheme, nosirree. The hybrid features are part of her, not the point of her. She's an active child with opinions and energy who is always, always doing something or getting into something, and yeah, she also has a little tail.

Definitely expect more snapshots of her childhood with Sylvia and Finn, either in fic or just rambling/hc form. 💙💙💙
