Define the scope of investigation (purpose / intended meaning): I will take photos of people and edit a cartoon self with them. These people will being doing some sort of action, from either sitting down and having a cup of coffee to rollerblading (for example).
Define your approach (change in studio practice(s), convergent or divergent): I will hope to convey a sense of nostalgia, reminding others of their childhood cartoons even while being in a whole different context.
Define your strategies (models, concepts, brainstorming, creative techniques): I will practice drawing people to get a sense of what cartoonish style I would like to draw in. From there I will take pictures of people doing some sort of action with open space by them so they may have a cartoon them following along. I will choose which pictures work best and go from there, adding in the character and choosing which action the cartoon is doing works best.
Which critical framework(s)will you use to critique the work and identify if it was successful. Describe: I will use Deconstructive analysis in deciding whether or not the overall thoughts bring people back to their childhood or when they were watching lots of cartoons. I will get help from several classmates by talking to them and about my pieces and seeing which one brings out most memories.
Think of the following:
Media: Photography and digital editing
Scale(size): 11x17 in.
Materials, support structure, & presentation: Photocopy mounted on black matte board
Formal Techniques: To the best of my ability, I will incorporate the cartoon into the picture and will make it look as if the cartoon was actually there.
Plan for visual research(include direct or indirect resources): I will study cartoon styles of other cartoonists and research videos or pictures rendering both 3D and 2D. I will also research ways to incorporate 2D work into a 3D photo and try to work with the mixed medias (digital/photography).
