She woke to the sound of screaming. Wasn’t the first time. Living with Naraku had been less than pleasant. Screaming was a common sound, but something was off about this scream. It was several moments before kagura finally realized what it was. She was the one screaming.
Closing her mouth and covering it with her hand, she began to panic. Memories started to flash before her eyes, but they confused her to no end. Were they dreams? Hadn’t she died?
She placed her hand over her heart and waited with baited breath for the tell tale thump. She wasn’t disappointed when sure enough the steady beat of her heart thrummed under her hand.
Kagura jerked her head towards the voice to find a gorgeous ethereal maiden walking towards her. She was tall and slender with long silver white hair that seemed to reach the floor. She had bright gold mischievous eyes and her face was adorned with markings, designating her a high born demon. They only added to her striking features, that came to together to make a near perfect being. Never before had Kagura seen such beauty.
She reminded her of Sesshomaru. If the woman didn’t have bangs, she would be able to see if she too had a crescent moon, but decided against asking since Sesshomaru seemed to have more enemies than friends. Last thing she needed to do was offend the woman by making assumptions.
Sorting through what she could recall from what she assumed was the previous day, she felt confident that her memories were not fabrications. She remembered getting her heart back, only to have it run through by Naraku’s tentacle, therefore being fatally poisoned by his miasma. She was almost certain she had died, but maybe that had been a hallucination.
Did that mean that Sesshomaru had been a hallucination too? She hoped not. It was her most treasured memory. Her favorite moment in her short, depressing life.
The woman was still just staring at her expectantly, causing kagura to realize she hadn’t said anything. “Yo.”
The demoness cocked an amused eyebrow, before giggling prettily and taking Kagura by the hand. “Oh you will give me so much amusement. I’m so glad I intervened. My son hates when I meddle in his life, or do things he’s unable to do like bring that human child back to life, or manipulate time here and there to suit my mood. He’s always been a tiresome child, but he is the only one I have, so I tolerate his moodiness. He acts more like a vagabond, than a Lord of the lands with blood relation to the Kami, but that’s a whole conversation for another day.” She released kaguras hand and tapped her claws together in an apparent signal. Before she could place her clawed hand in her lap, two servants appeared before her seemingly out of thin air.
“Tell Sesshomaru that his friend is awake, and have a new tea service brought out to the butterfly garden. Be sure none of the shneckins are human based, and be sure to include a few options that will appeal to the human child. We don’t want Sesshomaru to pitch a fit again.” She ordered before making a vague hand gesture signaling them to get to their tasks.
Sesshomaru was here somewhere! “Where am I your excellency, and what may I call you?” Kagura inquired as politely as she could manage. “I apologize for my confusion, but I honestly thought I died earlier, so all this is a little overwhelming.”
“How silly of me! I am Luna. I have many titles. You know me as the mother of Sesshomaru, Lord of the Western lands eventhough he doesn’t take his title or responsibilities as seriously as I’d like. I’m also the kami of the moon and the tides officially, but am also credited for the success or destruction of sailors and their vessels. I am called inukimi by most demons and humans alike since I have always been the most powerful dog demon in this realm. I’m almost positive I’m the most powerful demon of any species, but I don’t really pay attention to male pissing contests for power... you look as though you have questions my dear?” The demoness asked kindly.
Kagura was nervous and honestly quite intimidated. This woman wasn’t only flawless perfection, a powerful demoness, and royalty, she was a kami! Biting her lip, she tried to decide how to word her questions without being offensive.
“She can read your thoughts and manipulate time. There’s no point in attempting any type of deception, past or present.”
Kagura turned to find the demon lord himself standing in the doorway, looking perfectly bored as usual. She hoped that he’d glance her way, but his focus was solely on his mother.
“If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it one hundred times; you have no charm. You’re great and terrible father was so charming and amusing, it’s a good thing you inherited my looks, or I’m afraid you’d have no appeal.” The demoness said throwing her hands in the air dramatically.
“Your son is appealing in a lot of ways.” Kagura blurted out. Eyes going wide and slapping her hand over her mouth for the second time that day, kagura mentally kicked herself for saying a very internal thought aloud. Looking from son to mother, it was almost creepy how alike they were when they both focused their attention on her with the same cocky smirk playing on their face. “Anyways... I always have heard of sesshomaru’s father as a great and powerful demon, but I couldn’t help but notice you stated you are and have always been the most powerful demon. Am I correct?”
“Toga was very powerful, but he wasn’t a kami as I am. I let him rule as alpha, but it was understood he never ruled me.” She laughed a tinkling bell like laugh, obviously very amused by the memory of her late mate. “He was so amusing. As charming as Sesshomaru is not. Handsome in a dangerous way. He had scars! Can you imagine? He is the closest I’ve come to understanding emotions. Until him I was unaffected by the trivialities people and demons alike, get all excited over. He taught me how to smile and eventually laugh.”
“That sounds ideal,” kagura sighed.
“Tsh. How easy it is to forget.” Sesshomaru growled, showing an unusual amount of disdain and contempt on his normally stoic face.
“How could I ever forget, when all you do is remind me Sesshomaru?” Luna sighed heavily. “Most men need to be needed, they need something to protect or they feel incomplete. I require no such protection, and have everything anyone could ever desire. I’m also a true immortal. There is no way to end my life without my consent or permission. I thought that was my greatest strength, but it turned out to be my greatest flaw in his eyes. His need to protect was so strong, he grew attached to a weak human princess. She didn’t even have spiritual powers or anything especially unique about her. No great fighting skills, no musical or vocal talents, no great intellect, no artistic skills in paint or even calligraphy. She wasn’t even particularly very pretty or had large breasts like males seem to favor. she was however, very good at needing to be rescued. And nothing was so arousing to him as a weak female that needed him. Ech!” Luna turned away looking as though she’d smelled something foul. “His strange little fetish finally killed him.”
“Couldnt you have saved him or changed time so it favored your mate?” Kagura asked bluntly. She saw no need to be polite or not ask the question that kept spinning in her head, since his mother could read her mind so was already aware of what she was most curious about.
Sesshomaru suddenly appeared at kaguras bedside, lifting her into a bridal hold and making his way towards the door. “Come mother, kagura needs some air. She is an elemental after all.” Bending his head down, he lightly nipped kaguras ear, before returning his attention forward once again.
“No fucking way! You have two fucking arms! How did you..? When did you..? You’re so fancy.” Kagura said a bit too loud for his inu hearing, but she couldn’t help it. She just noticed his new arm and she was impressed. “You’re impressive.” She grinned dopily up at him.
A high pitched squeal and clapping sounded behind them, and kagura was shocked to discover she’d completely forgotten his mother for a moment.
“I shall be entertained for years to come. I am so very pleased with you my son.” Luna crowed excitedly, nearly skipping for joy at her sons side.
“Hn indeed!” His mother agreed enthusiastically.
Kagura still had so many questions, and hadn’t failed to notice her question about Togas death had been ignored or misdirected or whatever, but she couldn’t find it in her to care. Sesshomaru was carrying her body with her own heart, to a butterfly garden with both his arms.
They were complete in heart, body and mind.
Luna internally laughed at the thoughts raving through the two young souls minds. How different they were. How entertaining this would be.
