Photo competition winner | Week #3
Every good thing has to end eventually and we got to the end of ArtFest. Hope everyone goes back home with supercharged creative skills, new connections and experiences that define their personality and their chosen practice. The brief for the last week was to capture creativity and the workshops at ArtFest. The winner is Erick Cedillo Diaz. Erick did an excellent job in giving us insight into all the action at the workshops and was focusing on people who love what they do. His candid photography captured the atmosphere of creativity and made us feel like we are there! Congratulations Erick, hope you can fit an iPad Mini into your luggage. Thank you everyone who participated and keep checking Frontier as some amazing updates are coming to the site in September and you can compete for a full ArtFest scholarship and flights early next year!
Photo Competition Winner | Week #2
The brief for the second week was to show us Santa Fe and wider New Mexico through your eyes. ArtFest students have plenty of opportunity to look around, there were some great excursions and activities organized to explore the best of this magical place. We had a good amount of entries to choose from and the decision was not easy. The winner of the week is Michael Pereira! Michael showed delicate sensitivity for light, composition and the human element in his images. He excelled in capturing the rugged landscape, the architecture and people interacting with the environment. Well done Michael, you just got yourself an iPad mini. ArtFest Photo Competition Brief — Week #3 Workshops, creativity at ArtFest
Our last photography briefing for ArtFest is another chance for you to win one of those handy iPad minis. This is the last week of ArtFest and you spent a lot of time with workshops to nurture and express your creative side under the guidance of experts from all over the world. This week’s brief is about giving us a glimpse of the workshops, where the magic happens. We are looking for candid shots of passionate faculty, your friends or yourself in the process of creating at ArtFest. We want to see the process, the learning environment and people doing something they are passionate about. This might be a challenging brief but also the most exciting one. It’s about people doing what they love and the creative energy that’s everywhere at SFUAD. It’s about you, and your practice, and people around you who are committed in expressing themselves by creating something from nothing. So take on the challenge and share this experience with us. You can submit your entry on your Frontier portfolio, on Twitter, Tumblr or Instagram. Don’t forget to add the hashtags #artfestsf and #photocomp so we can see your entry. This time the deadline is Sunday (27th of July). Please note, we will not send prizes via post, so you have to be on campus to receive your iPad. Salvador Chavez is at ArtFest, so already a #winner. But he has topped up his experience with taking some photos around the gorgeous SFUAD campus and won an iPad mini. Yes, he is the winner of week #1 of the ArtFest Photo competition with Frontier. He also graced us with this winner shot of him and his prize. What a handsome devil! Wow, this is only the first week but the competition has been pretty tight. It was incredibly hard to choose the winner. You can see it for yourself when we soon release a ‘Best of’ gallery with some top shots! But let’s get down to business! The iPad prize for the first week goes to Salvador Chavez, who captured some campus photos that made us feel like we are there! Congratulations Salvador, have fun with your new iPad Mini. Remember guys, wherever you submit your entries (Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr) you need to be a registered member on Frontier to be eligible to win!

Explore the campus! — A photographic discovery of the SFUAD campus You arrived. Take some time to explore the great campus of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. Capture the light, the architecture, the textures the people, the events. This is your chance to roam around and discover places, hidden secrets of the location. The only restriction here is that whatever you capture should be on the SFUAD campus. Let us see it through your eyes! If you are using a DSLR or your phone, it doesn’t matter. Hi! Any tips for artfest?
Oh man, ARTFEST. Here we go.
1. Leave a little room in your suitcase to bring things home - every year, people end up shipping stuff back to their home countries, or even buying secondary suitcases, for their souvenirs!
2. Remember we’re in a desert, and you’re visiting during the hottest month. It gets nice and chilly at night, but during the day, it is HOT! You’re going to need to drink more water than you have in your entire life, and plan on needing sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.
3. If you miss the water, sign up for the Abiqui Lake trip. You get to go swimming and hang out on the beach and it’s beautiful! …or the white water rafting trip, which is also super fun!
4. Be open minded - you’re about to interact with people from countries you may not have met before, and for a lot of people, it’s their first time in the US. Last year, we had 14 different countries attend - that’s 14 different cultures mingling. Embrace the new experiences while you’re here.
5. Bring just a liiiiittle bit more spending money than you think you need. You never know if you’re going to find something absolutely AMAZING on your last day here.
But mostly, have fun, be creative, make new friends, and take a ton of pictures!
