I seriously thought what was said in that scene was "I see you." "I see your greed."

Which for me gave such an interesting point to the monster. I thought Simon said "I see your greed."

The monster desired so much, wanted to keep the truth from the rest of civilization. It wanted to keep life and the light for itself and would destroy that which potentially threatened it. He understood the monster long before he consciously met it.

After all Simon had a similar greed. The Butcher. Perhaps as the butcher, as the one who added to the "soil" of the Last Tree, perhaps he solidified a place for himself. He couldn't be expendable to Eden, he was the one willing to do that which others couldn't/wouldn't. He desperately clung to life.

When the monster suddenly stopped being nice, stopped pretending. When all hope of escape was truly gone. Simon asked "You want the butcher?" You want me to be like you? Similar greeds with different outcomes.
