Quinn barely had the apartment door closed before her voice rang out, full of barely contained excitement. “Artie! Where are you?” She didn’t wait for an answer before striding into the living room, her bag still slung over her shoulder. The grin on her face gave her away instantly, but she still drew out the moment like she was sitting on the world’s best secret. And she kind of was. “Soooo... I just got off the phone with casting.” She paused, dramatic as ever, then broke into a laugh. “You got it, Artie. The lead! They want you.” Her words tumbled out in a rush, eyes bright with pride as she dropped onto the couch beside him. “I nearly screamed in the parking lot when they told me, and you know I don’t embarrass myself in public like that. I am definitely not one to make a scene." The latter was far from the truth, both of them knew it, which spurred another giggle from Quinn. "But seriously,” she rested her hand on his arm, softly, briefly. “I told you they’d be stupid not to pick you. And, for once, I was right.”

Though it hadn't actually been all that long they'd been living together, Artie had come to recognize the excitement in Quinn's voice and the difference between 'five dollars off groceries' coupon announcement and 'this is major' announcement. No sooner did she appear suddenly in the living room, with the widest grin Artie had ever seen on her face, than she had him on the hook now. "Aaaand?" Her look did kind of give it away but it was a total rush to have his best friend announce that he'd gotten the lead role on her show. "You're kidding! Oh my god!" She joined him on the couch and Artie wrapped his arms around her with a huge hug! "I can't believe it, you mean we're going to be working together?!?" This was by far his biggest break since making the move to Los Angeles, and knowing that they'd be able to share in the success now was even better news! "No way, not you!" He gave Quinn a teasing wink, then added "There's nobody else I'd rather have heard the news from, you know. This is just... wow. I'm speechless here." His own grin covered his face too, he was practically shaking in his excitement now. "Yeah but you're unbelievably biased, Q. I still can't believe it... is this really happening?"

It was still surreal to Quinn that she was living in Los Angeles– let alone with Artie Abrams. Not that they had any beef with each other, but until joining glee club, their paths had never really crossed either. It was weird how glee had brought them all together like a family; this undeniable tether that banded them. Yet, until they’d ventured out on their own, Quinn really didn’t know him very well beyond that. Artie surprised her constantly though, and it was such a relief that they actually got along. Effortlessly, even. She was sincerely enjoying his company, much more than anticipated. Both of them were very smart, but the idea of becoming stranded somewhere hadn’t exactly crossed Quinn’s mind until Artie mentioned it. Her car was far from being on its last leg, but it definitely had some miles on it too. “You don’t think we could MacGyver ourselves out of some tricky situation if it were to happen?” She teased, lips lifting into a smile even if she knew it was more logical to stay planted for Thanksgiving. “And that is a pretty long drive to make twice within about a month.” While money was a bit tight, Quinn had been pondering ideas for Artie’s present. Something not too outrageous, but that required sincere thought. She hadn’t landed on it just yet though.

Quinn felt warmth spring to her cheeks at his words; even if she knew Artie hadn’t meant them romantically, it still provoked an unexpected flutter that she couldn’t quite pinpoint. “We can definitely video chat with them. Then I can finally thank my mom for teaching me how to bake for all of the holidays. I actually kind of miss that. So it will be nice to practice on someone who will eat just about anything.” She laughed wholly, eyes sparkling at her affectionate dig. “We can totally do that. We could call it Hollywood Holly-day on a Dime or something cheesy like that.” Light pink nails thrummed against the countertop in thought as she met his eyes again, a hint of a smirk pulling at her mouth. “You any good in the kitchen, Abrams?”

Artie allowed himself to smile at Quinn’s quip. “I mean, I wouldn’t ever bet against us. But you’ve gotta admit, car maintenance isn’t exactly in our wheelhouse, right?” Being that it was her car, Artie didn’t want to risk it breaking down or becoming irreparably damaged. Quinn had already been gracious enough to bring the two of them out to Los Angeles already, after all. “That’s what I’m thinking too. I hope you’re not too disappointed?” Her smile told him she was thinking along the same lines as him, which had happened a lot already on this new chapter of their lives. Happy to think of it just being the two of them for Thanksgiving together, the rose blush in Quinn’s cheeks had Artie turning away for just a moment, a little twinge within him causing him to wonder if he’d come on too strong.

Artie lit up again as she mentioned baking, a skill he hadn’t known Quinn possessed until recently. “I think I should be thanking her for that too, and you know if you need a tester I’m all in,” he mused. He was really just happy that her spirits had lifted a bit with this new plan, and Artie nodded enthusiastically again at her titling of this newly-planned feast. “And you really should be trademarking that, it’d totally catch on. I’m all for trying to figure out some of this and giving us a little bit of that holiday taste.”

Hearing the genuine laugh come from within Quinn had Artie smiling wider than ever, and chuckling as well. Her question came off almost as a dare, and left Artie giving another little nod of the head as he leaned back against the counter, arms folded as he pondered how to answer best. “As good as I am in the rest of the house, naturally,” he replied with a little winking eye.

Quinn appreciated Artie’s efforts to help out with some extra side work. Her money too was dwindling now, which meant she would soon be in search of something as well if she didn’t land a gig by the holidays. The fridge was quite barren, but there was some pasta that she knew she could easily whip up for them if Artie was hungry as well. At least it was better than Ramen.

Her spirits lifted at his presence; something she’d begun to realize happened more often than not. At least they were in this scraping-pennies-and-trying-to-make-their-dreams-come-true thing together. His answer about traveling home for Thanksgiving wasn’t unexpected, and in the grand scheme of things, Artie was right. She’d just been feeling a little homesick, surprisingly.

“I think you’re probably on to something there. We could, but gas there and back alone might just break us. I guess if I had to choose between the two, I’d rather visit at Christmas. And you know, be able to afford a couple presents at least.” The quiver of her lip stilted as she let a small smile escape. “That is, if you feel that way too? I guess we could have our own little Charlie Brown sort of Thanksgiving here?”

If you’d told high school freshman Artie that one day he’d be living out in Los Angeles and sharing a home with Cheerio Captain Quinn Fabray, he’d have called you straight up insane. But here they were, each trying to find their way into the entertainment business and growing closer as friends. It helped that they seemed to constantly have a shared mindset about things, and rarely squabbled about much at all.

Upon coming face to face with each other, Artie couldn’t hold back the grin he always wore in her presence. Quinn’s soft question of what he was feeling for Thanksgiving plans had Artie answering as truthfully as he could- in the short term missing out on family and traditions back home hurt, but in the long run it would probably be better. He gave a nod as she absorbed his words and once again agreed with him. “Unfortunately I think it might too, and honestly I don’t want to chance it and wind up stuck somewhere in the middle of the country.” His turn to nod now, “I’d rather go home for Christmas too, and a few gifts would be nice.” Not to mention being able to afford a gift for Quinn herself, Artie wanted to get her something special for agreeing to this crazy scheme of uprooting her life alongside him.

“I love that idea, even if it’s just you and me here for Thanksgiving.” Artie lit up at the thought, and tapped his chin as he leaned against the counter. He could tell not getting back to Lima for both holidays wore heavy on Quinn. “You know, we can at least video chat with the families back home on the holiday, right? And hey, maybe between the two of us we can figure out a new traditional Thanksgiving feast?”

As Quinn peeked into the fridge in search of something to eat after her latest audition, the sound of Artie’s footsteps brought a wave of comfort. She was still getting used to a new town, a new place, and his presence and familiarity made their apartment feel a little more like home. Living together hadn’t been nearly as awkward or unsettling as she thought it might be with someone she was still learning new things about daily. Smiling slightly as she snatched a sparkling water, she turned to face Artie. A question teetered on the tip of her tongue; one she had been meaning to ask him about.

“Have you thought about Thanksgiving? I guess we probably can’t make a trip home, can we?”

Another day of trying in vain to find some way into the business down, Artie made his way home after putting in some time down at the Grove. At least if he didn’t have any success in show business, maybe he could land a part-time job to help make ends meet... the money he’d come to Los Angeles with wasn’t going to last too much longer and it certainly wasn’t fair to Quinn if he couldn’t keep up his share of things. Once he made it inside, he could hear the refrigerator door open and knew instantly where his roomie was. Though friends, this new situation of cohabiting had definitely helped them to become closer. Almost like a source of of comfort for one another just to know they weren’t out in the big city, far away from home, all alone.

He followed the sounds into the kitchen, and right away Quinn spun around to greet him with a question that he’d tried hard not to think about lately. What to do about the holiday coming up. Artie bit his lip and pondered.

“To be honest, not really. And technically I guess we could, but it’s probably not the smartest move right now, right? Especially when Christmas isn’t that far away either.”

Quinn: Babe? Really?? Alright, we can sacrifice mine then. I'll make sure to get a tune up before we leave. I am far from mechanical. Yeah, because we're totally loaded, right?

Quinn: I've come to learn this. Definitely a 10, but I'm also equally nervous. Big change, you know? What about you?

Artie: Too much? Don't look at it as a sacrifice, look at it as being the chosen one? And okay, well we're in this together, the least I can do is pay half. And that makes two of us. Of course we are... we got this.

Artie: Thanks... wait a minute. And hey, that's understandable. I feel the exact same way. A lot of change in a short amount of time, but it'll work.

Quinn: Ooh, I like where your head is at. In all fairness, I'm not sure either of our rides are exactly suited for Hollywood. But it'll do for now.

Quinn: Well that sounds like a challenge, Abrams.

Artie: Always looking ahead to the future, babe. Maybe not, but I'll still take yours over mine. And when it's really needed, we can always rent a convertible.

Artie: Not the first time I've been called challenging before, but I can make it work. So on a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?
