Mermay piece for this month’s theme! This is a hermit crab mermaid.
Lookout. Environment concept for the Project: Saints.
Outside the thick walls of Gray Pole, some lookouts are used as supply and surveillance bases, and stand as a first defense system against potential threats. Patrols of Pylon bikers are deployed from these points to explore the nearby countryside.
Concept art for the Cossack Watchman, also for the Project: Saints, plus an early sketch of the design.
The Watchmen are the foot soldiers of the Cossacks: once a Cossack dropship touches the ground, they are deployed in order to raid and pillage the nearby villages and supply centers. Once they are done, they establish watch (hence their name) while the dropship deploys its settlement modules and creates a ground base.
Even though their weaponry and armor is no big deal, their fierceness is well known, such as their liver strength.
Pylon bike. Small vehicle practice for the Project: Saints. I also added a early draft of different motorbike shapes because it looked interesting to me.
The Pylon is a swift reconnaissance motorcycle used by Gray Pole operatives to deliver messages and assess threats. They can cover a substantial amount of plain terrain quickly and dispatch small bands of enemies with their pylon cannons. They are not the most maneuverable vehicle and can’t turn very quickly nor hike through irregular terrain, though, due to their length and the weight of the pylon core and cannon.
Watchtower outside Gray Pole. Location practice for the Project: Saints. Never been one to really spend a lot of time detailing outside environments (event though I love architecture and landscape art) so I’m trying to add versatility to my portfolio.
More Project: Saints goodness!
Both the Mantichore and the Nimrod are special units from the Pyramid faction. Grown from usual human and human tissue with the Pyramid method, they both are forces to be reckoned with.
The Mantichore is fast and lethal, using both its organic weapons and its feral cunning to take down even the most well armored enemies. The metal spines from its back can be shot at an unstoppable speed, slicing and dicing its foes before finishing them up with its sting, which can penetrate even the toughest Hussar armor. But that ain’t all: when cornered, the acid spit of the Mantichore can melt weapons and metal plates, and its claws can still get the job done.
The Nimrod is one of the heaviest weapons in the Pyramid arsenal, relying in an insane amount of brute force to decimate its opponents. His genetically enhanced body can secrete stimulants and muscle enhancers literally until it blows up, but he usually slays any prey much before. The Nimrod’s axe is fueled by this stream of hormones and fury, cutting deeper and harder the angrier the Nimrod gets.
Colonel Leanne ‘Hawk’ Ahabi, commander of the Lancers. From the Project: Saints. You’ve seen her before, but I’m trying to get used to this kind of format for new characters, so their features can be displayed in a clearer, better way.
-Leanne Ahabi is the commander of the Lancers, the most renowned military corps of the Gray Pole. Those soldiers were raised and trained while retaking their own street from the Pyramid army with their custom Lances and shields, and now they are an official and more versatile group, and the backbone of Gray Pole’s modern and disciplined army.
Project: Saints is going to be a pretty complete concept art project once I have enough material, and I intend to release a pdf with the lore and all the imagery so you all can check it out.
I thought about doing my approach to some classical Batman villains but with actors and actresses whose interpretation I’d like for those characters. I had a blast doing these and certainly I’m going to do more. It was a real challenge to try and capture the likeness of these people while staying true to the character and in some cases compromises had to be made, but I think I got the job done.
1. Mark Strong as Mr. Freeze
2. Andy Serkis as Joker
3. Lupita Nyong’o as Catwoman
4. Mackenzie Davis as Poison Ivy
After reading the new issues of Doctor Strange: Damnation from Marvel, I saw a Black Panther who became some sort of Ghost Rider (with a human skull, tho) and I had to do my approach. So here it is.
Black Panther+Ghost Rider mashup.
Megacossack, or the Demon’s Dread, as they like to call themselves. These fierce warriors from the Light Order have incorporated incredible armor technology into their usual clothing, and run into battle head first.
I took a bit more of time with this one. It has been some time since I tried to add more detail into a drawing and improve, illustration-wise, and I think it’s paying off.
Part of the Project: Saints.
The Astar are quick, nimble soldiers, apt to harass the enemy and sow terror, specially among non-armored opponents. Their numbers and speed are their greatest asset, but they vastly underperform against bigger, tougher enemies.
Part of the Project: Saints, agAIN. I’m struggling to find a format in which I can properly explain the general lore behind the whole thing and also describe what every type of soldier is for. I’ll find a way.
Two sketches for two characters for the Project: Saints!
Those are two officials from the Gray Pole faction:
-Captain Arno McCallister, skilled tactician and grizzled veteran.
-Colonel Leanne ‘Hawk’ Ahabi, commander of the Lancers an unbeatable fighter.
Summoner and his fiendish companion.
Character concept: a blind warrior specialized in arcane know-how and summoning creatures from other planes, and a demon to keep him company. It was fun to drop the sci-fi theme for a while.
I did two versions since I couldn’t figure out which lighting setting I liked more.
Study from a photo by Andy Bardon ( https://t.co/QiNgLd2Atu )
I started working on Clip Studio Paint (way lighter and simpler than Photoshop) and I had to try capturing color and shapes for starters.
Reiter from the Light Order!
Part of the Project: Saints I’ve been working of.
My intention is to do a megapost with finished pieces like this one and also rough sketches and paper, a short lore description, etcetera.
Vampire sci-fi grunt.Â
The idea came from a order of vampires which sows terror in the far future and whose grunts wear these armors. The wing thing is actually a radiation sail, which gathers radiation from the environment and turns it into energy to sustain the armor.
Jason Momoa’s Aquaman with a hair bun and different, Injustice-inspired armor.Â
I’m often irritated by superheroes which fight with long loose hair (that gets in your eyes, mate) so I had to sit and draw.
