Reflection

after 1 semester of communication design, i learned so many things. From abstract collages until some of the history of art itself. this subject is my favourite subject in this first semester of uni. i got to explore my skills in photoshop and even used premiere pro to make the final project. one of the skill that i got from doing the last project was simplicity. one time in class, we were told to make a collage with only 20 minutes, we were told to not to make it crowded because it can ruin the collage, this also can be applied for a documentary-styled video. it have to be informative and not just look cool. the teacher also gave me some advices for two of my projects this semester, it really helped me to have a second opinion for my works. before i went to uni my second opinion was my family that i live with, and i felt pressured, because my mom was very critical about my works. after this semester, i learned how to manage my time and not slack off on my assignments.i hope that the skill that i got from this class can be interpreted in my next semesters and also after graduating uni.

blurred and out of focused film photos that i took but it still looks cool and aesthetically looks nice. tho old look is not perfect but the style very pleasing in the eye. this is why people are going back to film and old filters. i also followed the trend for the style of my final video

Assessment 3: Ask Me Anything 

What a wild ride this one was. I had a lot of composition problems before but I finally settled on being a bit more adventurous with the layout. For me, the highlight of this assessment was the research because Totoro has always been one of my favourites so it was great to get a chance to learn about his design. Thank you to classmates that provided me with feedback. It really helped me figure things out and improve on my practice.

really liked the zine from the first page to the end. it looks very intriguing. the colors are nice and the collages doesn’t look crowded. nice work

After making the video i realised that this style of editing is very fun. you care more about the information that you have to give to the audience that just making it look cool. some of the footage were from stock video website and this was very helpful. the effects was some of the ones i learned while editing my travel videos and some new ones like typewriter and google earth were from research in youtube. the sound design was way simpler than i thought for a documentary style video. it was very fun and educational doing this video.

Zine - Final Work in progress

This is how my final layout looks like for my zine after I have discussion with Ben through email and in class. I was quite confident after I get feedback from Ben about my layouts. 

During the process for my final, I have changed some of my layouts from previous one as some of them looks lack of elements to support my subject and I felt like something is missing. I changed the arrangement of my elements (geoetric shapes/ lines and typeface) as when I exported my pages into spread pages and I realised that my layouts are not quite attractive. So, in my question 3′s layout, I have added some elements on the right part so it doesn’t look too blank. Same with the layout for my question 4, which I decided to move the ‘Basker’ type into middle so it can fill my entire pages in both sides. I have play with negative space but I didn’t left it a lot, in order not to look boring.

Wow! I love the layout page, it fits the aesthetic perfectly. Page design looks neat and easily readable. Great use of colour and I like the illustration on the cover. Amazing!

i love the graphics in the background and the warm colors. the simplicity and use of negative space is also very nice

like the picture above i figured that a typewriter effect for the video is very appropriat and it looks cool too. after researching i struggled a bit to make it look right but after doing it once i can use it for other scenes or other videos too

i started to think about how to visualise the influence of constructivism around the world and i figured that google earth is a free resource that i can use to “record” the earth. i used it in 2 scenes and it visualised the words pretty well

even though im not doing a zine i still researched them and started to like the style of the random collages. it inspired me for some other projects in other classes. but the simplicity in the style and not making it crowded i interpreted in the edit of my video. i figured that a simple edit is the right style for a documentary. its still old and creative looking but its still simple

before i made my video i imagined a style for it. after researching a ton i came back to my hobby, film. i love the old look from a film camera and the equivelant in video is vhs. so i added old filters in my documentary

these 2 documentation is my research for how i am going to edit the video. in fact, these documentaries are the inspiration for the video. at first i was thinking about making a website but i watch the edits of the films and started to wonder how cool it would be if i made a documentary

my premiere pro workspace for the final project of communication design. for this documentary i did more on the footage side than the sound design cause im going with a simpler edit rather than a complicated sound design that i used to do. i figured that the simpler style is more suitable for a documentary

In class we were told to make a collage out of things you can get online or in real life. because of the condition due to the coronavirus i dont have any interesting things in my house. i chose a retro vibe that i really like and combined random stock objects in photoshop

old man's camera when I'm a lil baby. it became something very special for me even its just a cheap thing. it captured my childhood and now my friends and me everyday
