dehumanization as horror is great and all but what about humanization as horror. Being forced into a role that was not made for you. Being forced to fulfill expectations that you can never achieve. Being made to exist in a society that so cruelly expects you to act in a way that is against your nature.
dude last night was a series of still images displayed in quick succession creating the illusion of motion
this video is CUTE, the animal is clearly in distress but it is a vile creature unloved by any god and we are correct to derive pleasure and satisfaction from its misery
really sucks that my peak writing hours are also the hours my parents see fit to walk by my laptop as much as humanly possible so they can stare at my screen. also just got babysitting duties foisted upon me after the bar exam so my plans to escape the house and write for 96 hours straight are dashed. i miss montreal
Oh my god I also hated Flesh!!!
No spoilers bc idk if youre done with it but how tf did it win awards. Just flat lifeless prose and nonexistent plot.
I choose to belive it's a bad translation issue
at chapter 3, it's slow going bc my whole day is basically studying so i only read at breaks 😭 but LMAO. yes!!!!! it's so lifeless!! meandering god knows where but vaguely commenting on how masculinity / personhood is a verb? either it's a bad translation or the booker prize panel last year saw something that all of us are not seeing
Ray Bradbury - Dandelion Wine
I DON'T LISTEN TO radiohead anymore, but i have the ok computer demos in my local files because of you. seven years later and i still call myself a fraud. did you know? artifice; something intended to deceive, because i'm not a writer or a creative; i'm not anything compared to you.
(((ace called you an insecure fucking bitch for that, by the way. we were watching the matrix when you called. i hold my breath every january and try not to think about it) because he's married now and has a house and we haven't talked in years)) but)))
i was thinking the other day about how maybe a better name for myself might be artifact. it's similar etymology, the stem of ars, or "art," and facere, "to make or do." to make do. my artistry now is an artifact from you. and every other moment of my life, you're not that special, even if you're right. i'm still a thief. just a better one now; i steal things in pieces; i make something new; like,
soundcheck from lyon, france, 17th of april, 1996

with no alarms and no surprises, but for the end, where we modulate up. alarms and surprises! i say this all because bryan reminds me of you, with his nose in the air and his eyes perpetually downcast, because it must be awful lonely at the top, because, because. he's like you and he taps me on the shoulder and he says it's beautiful, looking down on me. what's beautiful?
the ending, he says, and then he goes to class. i take my seat a table away from him. no alarms and no surprises, please.
OSCAR MORGAN as TURNER HAYES GOTHAM KNIGHTS // Episode 11 Daddy Issues
"He died in my armor. Plenty of sons have died in their father's armor. How many fathers have died in their son's?"

when you are the beloved prince of the realm who serves face even at funerals but you are doomed by the narrative
everyone’s always busy debating if Ilya would be a swiftie or not because no one wants to face the reality that he’d love the FUCK out of Eminem
I hate to break this news to you, but Ilya has spent bad amounts of money on Macklemore tickets.
he cried over same love for SURE but it came out in 2012 so his love did not in fact keep him warm yet 😔
i read the texture of memory months and ago and have read probably hundreds of other fics after it and i still think about it weekly. it also made me reread never let me go and couple of other ishiguro’s books. i was wondering if you use an app for books/rec them somewhere? or where do you find books that you love? i’m in a huge (book) reading slump and and just can’t find stuff to read.
this is such high praise, thank you! and so glad to have put you on ishiguro!
hmm i tried storygraph at someone's recommendation a couple months ago, but it was tedious to keep up with, so i only log stuff sporadically. (it's definitely better than goodreads if you're a stats sort of person or picky about what you read!)
honestly i'm not cultured at all, i just go to libraries and bookshops to see what looks interesting! when the booker or giller prize longlists drop too, i'll check those out. big fan of going on library websites and scrolling through their reading recommendations--here's the toronto public library's.
hopefully some of this is helpful! currently hate-reading flesh by david szalay if you wanna join me and my friends LOL
