Artists Lagoon: the next step
A feature after the end of the Artinyc project to be a continuation of the project
My final post for the artinyc project:
Museums are interesting - they make us reconsider the meaning of art and they also make us ponder our life choices. Another thing to note is that museums are very different in NYC, they range from tiny to HUGE. What I noticed was that the less security guards were stalking my every move, the more I enjoyed the exhibitions.
Below I will list my general observations
In every museum I noticed this:
I noticed that most people stare blankly into paintings for about two minutes and walk away without engaging nearby people
Most people (90%) found post 1960s sculptures very engaging and would in fact spend 5- 10 minutes walking around it and discussing it with friends
100% of people I approached: In all the museums we went to who were viewing art when I spoke to them or asked them questions were friendly, responded back and asked me something.
less than 25% of people took photos, I took photos of 75% of the people I saw looking at artworks for more than 2 minutes in response to this
Most security guards per square foot: Whitney Museum
Least security guards per square foot: Museum of Chinese in America
Most strange museum: Japan Society
Most luxurious: The Frick Collection, with Neue Galerie close behind
Two most overwhelming museums: MOMA and the MET
Best Layout: the Morgan Library
Spring in the Park:
The Racoon falling from the tree was the most interesting event that day. I did enjoy the architecture in the park - the hockey skates in stone was an interesting touch. The hilliness of the park drives me crazy!
I wish the park was less hilly it needs to be flatter. Apparently much of the older architecture is buried underground.
The Frick is guarded with ninjas. In every corner you see these men in there black outfits - well not really.
The Frick Collection is a heavily guarded museum full of many beautiful Dutch, French, Italian and Spanish works. The Northern Renaissance works are very interesting as are the distinct Vermeers and Rembrants.
Taking a picture is like asking to be kicked in the groin in this museum, how I managed to take any pictures is beyond me.
We learned the story of the naughty italian and how a Polish soldier became known as a Rider.
Going to share Artinyc.tumblr.com with event attendees at Uncubed 2013
Park Place is pretty:
I should come here more often - Dialogue:
N: Its so hottttttt outside
P: don't wear black pants
N: Geez I hope the Woolworth building has AC
P: We can't go in that building!
N: Zut!

The most average museum:
This museum sits in the middle of my report this semester, it is beautiful and also needs a lot of work.
Should you take photos in museums?
