Not quite. As far as I remember, the mission was to capture Atsushi. Akutagawa offered to follow him voluntarily, but Nakajima attacked him, so Ryunosuke carried out his threat. He was angry at Higuchi, however, because she opened fire when her next task was to capture the tiger man alive.

Have you read BEAST? And if you have, how do you feel about the pairing of Atsushi and Akutagawa within the BEAST universe? Is it different from your opinion of them in the normal verse?

I've read the BEAST manga and watched the movie. I have to say, I don't like Akutagawa's actions in this universe at all—especially his abandonment of his sister, Gin. It always felt wrong to me.

That said, I must admit, his dynamic with Atsushi in BEAST is really well-written. The role reversal is brilliant, and the narrative does a great job of showing how their core personalities remain intact, even when circumstances are reversed.

Despite that, I still don't like this ship. It's just not my thing. Personally, I prefer Akutagawa/Higuchi (her devotion and his rare moments of caring are wonderful) and Atsushi/Kyouka.

So yeah, BEAST plays well with Shin Soukoku, but my heart belongs to other pairings.

Do you think Fyodor really died in the manga?🤔

I can't imagine Akutagawa and Atsushi as a couple. Their relationship developed thanks to Dazai, who saw the potential for a powerful duo. Soukoku is much better in that regard. Watching their interactions, I believe there's more to them than just hatred. In shinsoukoku, there's only jealousy on Ryunosuke's part and competition for Osamu's affections.

Fanfiction often grossly distorts character arcs. Akutagawa tore off Atsushi's leg the first time they met! Remember, back then, no one knew Nakajima could regenerate! Chuuya also attacked Dazai the first time they met, but he was protecting his friends, while Ryunosuke attacked the helpless and weak Atsushi!

Here are a few key frames from the new manga chapter. For a second there, I really thought Fyodor was done for!

This hit me especially hard because I’ve only just recently come to truly appreciate his character. It’s like I finally understood him, only to be faced with his potential end.

The sheer tragedy of it all clicked for me — the endless suffering his ability brings. To think he's been cycling through death and rebirth for centuries, each time reawakening in the body of his killer... It’s a profound and lonely curse. And now, right after this realization, the manga puts him through this. It’s heartbreaking.

I have a headcanon that Osamu has unconsciously adopted Mori's mannerisms: his gaze, facial expressions, and gestures. Dazai doesn't like being compared to him and denies any similarities.

One day at an agency meeting, Atsushi noticed that Kyouka had turned pale. He was worried about his friend, asked how she was feeling, and offered her some water. The thing is, Dazai became extremely serious for a few seconds. He put his elbows on the table and rested his chin on his intertwined fingers.

(I only see Ogai as a parental figure to Osamu.)

How do you feel about AU's in which soukoku has children?

It’s 02:00. I have my thesis chapter two revisions that I haven’t started and a term paper that I’m only halfway through writing due at 11:59. I work from 07:30-13:30. And have class from 14:30-15:45. And a meeting with my advisor that I am not prepared for. At. All.

*cracks knuckles*

So glad you asked. Because I have thoughts and clearly responding to a stranger is the best use of my time.

So I have two sides to this:

I love it for a fluffy, perfect, everyone is healed, world. Those aus that just fill that hole you didn’t know you had. In a world where Chūya knew what bread was before he could count kind of world. It’s fills me. I don’t even want kids and I get it. Both have core characteristics as attentive and guiding (well when Dazai leaves the Mafia anyways. He gets there. Give the criminal an undeserved break. We love him). Great parents. I’m especially big on adoption and single dad Dazai (idk why man) aus. Both value their community deeply, and I think they’d want to adopt in this kind of au.

That being said, objectively, I think it’s grossly out of character. Dazai and Chūya, to put it simply, are incredibly messed up characters that have ridiculously messed up lives. They are the way they are because of their background. So unless the AU incorporates a similar background, they aren’t technically “themselves.” (I hope I’m make sense with this). A result of their lives is that they are, at their core, practical people. They would understand that: 1) they could not provide a stable environment for a child; 2) having experienced an unstable childhood, would never wish to contribute to one; 3) Dazai is not good with kids (I don’t feel like I need to expand on this). So, unless it’s an oops child single parent AU or an AU where it’s a found family situation, I do not believe they would deliberately put themselves in a situation where they would have legal custody of a child. Too many liabilities. Too irresponsible for one (Chūya) and the wrong kind of irresponsible for the other (Dazai).
