I don’t like labels so this can be whatever the hell you want it to be.
Great, because the coffee at Starbucks is mediocre anyway. I know of a little cafe that both of us can appreciate. What time do you get off your shift?
Perfect, then a distraction non-date it is.
Sounds great, I get off at six. Should I meet you there?
Yes, I’m always positive that I’m the best-looking thing in the room at all times. I don’t care if you’re single or taken– just being in the same room with you is already such a treat for me. You can tell me all about what’s making you sad or mad as long as it’s over a drink; but I make a fantastic distraction if you just want to leave all your worries behind.
Yeah? What’s more your cup of tea– coffee or alcohol?
Well it definitely speaks volumes on how you think of me if you think I’m a treat to be around-- being so sure of yourself and all. Okay, okay, let’s put your distraction skills to the test then. As long as you’re aware that this isn’t a date, that is. I’m...I don’t think jumping into anything is a good idea for me right now.
Coffee, definitely. As long as it isn’t in your Starbucks, I would like to stay as far away from there and Target as possible.Â
Oh, I’m sure once you find the right muse– me– all that untapped potential and talent swirling around in that petite body of yours will come bursting out.
Shame for the guy who lost you. Sounds like what you need is a night out on the town having a little bit of fun to distract you from whatever crap is making you sad and mad. I make a pretty good distraction.
You’re a good muse and a good distraction. Wow, you can do it all, can’t you? Are you always this sure of yourself? I have an inkling that all you heard was the word “single” and you don’t really care to know what I’m sad or mad about. Which is okay, honestly, because the point of a distraction is to distract.
With that said, however, I suppose a night out with a friendly face wouldn’t hurt.
I don’t anything about digital art… But maybe I could provide some artistic inspiration. Not to toot my own horn– who am kidding, of course I am– but I can make a very alluring model.
Rough how? Did something happen?
I don’t either unfortunately, which is why I’m failing. Hm, I don’t think a muse is what I’m lacking here- it’s the talent- but I do admire your modesty.Â
Yeah, you could say that. I’m newly single and I’m really perplexed by what happened- I don’t really understand it and I feel like I’m really sad and mad all at the same time and so it’s making me feel pretty stuck at the moment.
What’s got you all out of sorts, B? Is it something one of my famously-crafted lattes can’t undo? Or maybe a little tutoring from Professor Smythe can help you out.
As enticing as I know home is for you, surely there’s something I can say or do to entice you to stay?
I’ll be fine. I’m just...distracted lately. I don’t know how well you could tutor me considering I’m an art major. I thought taking a digital arts class would broaden my horizons a little but I’m not doing really great it’s discouraging. You wouldn’t happen to know much about digital arts, would you?
I don’t know, Seb. It’s been a rough year, running away is enticing.Â
This blog is taking a leap forward in time to move on with Blaine’s story.
Everything that happened up until now is canon- there are even some things that happened that haven’t been posted yet on Hunter and Scarlett’s blogs that I will summarize briefly to bring you up to speed!
After the karaoke date things with Hunter and Scarlet and Blaine became even more tense and eventually Hunter cheats on Blaine with Scarlett. In a very confrontational exchange in the break-room of their work place, the vile girl tells Blaine everything. Brokenhearted, Blaine confronts Hunter and ends their relationship.
In the future there could be interaction between Hunter and Scarlett but their timelines are currently not matched due to the writing schedule of Hunter and Scarlett.
Date: I don’t know anymore I’m sorry. A while after the karaoke para.
Location:Â Target breakroom
Starring: Blaine Anderson, @scarlettsberry, and @conceitedclarington
Summary: Scarlett encounters Blaine in the breakroom and it’s not pretty.
Notes/Warnings: Scarlett is mean.
Scarlett Berry:Â
After the day Scarlett had the day before, she wasn’t in the mood for work at all and she honestly didn’t want to be within three miles of Blaine or Hunter. She had nothing to say to Hunter and she had a lot to say to Blaine that she really didn’t want to get into it. Not to mention she had an incredibly massive hangover. She was still fuming and she was regretting getting out of bed but she needed her job and quitting or being fired wasn’t exactly an option. Thankfully she had gone through most of the day avoiding everyone but she felt sick to her stomach and she didn’t know that she could go through the rest of the day. Thankfully, her co-worker had agreed to take over the rest of her shift so she could go home early.
Scarlett planned to shove her apron into her locker in the back, grab a bottle of advil from the store, a bottle of whiskey from the liquor store on the way home and get into bed. Unfortunately, when she was leaving the break room, the last person on earth she wanted to see came into the room. Rolling her eyes, she let out and audible sigh, doing her best to ignore him.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine was having a decent day despite a peak in his anxiety due to Hunter asking if they could talk after work. Everything that could possibly go wrong or be wrong ran through his head multiple times but he did his best to take deep breaths and not expect the worst. He was halfway through his work day and he was going to take a much needed break so he went off into the break room so he could relax for a bit before finishing off the day.
When he came into the room, he noticed Scarlett and he paused for a moment before swallowing and going in anyway. He gave her a polite smile and as usual, Blaine decided to be the bigger person despite the two’s obvious disdain for each other. “Hello, Scarlett. Are you having a nice day so far?” He asked, reaching into the fridge to grab his water bottle before sitting in one of the chairs.
Scarlett Berry:
Scarlett was in such a horrible mood that the moment Blaine opened his mouth to speak, she let out a soft groan and she held her hand up. “Listen, Anderson.” She said, looking at him, shaking her head. “I know that everyone around here thinks that you just have rainbows coming out of your ass or whatever but I don’t like you.” She said bluntly. “I don’t like you, you don’t like me-- there’s really no reason for us to speak.”
The girl spoke as she gathered her things, shaking her head. “I have a massive hangover and I really don’t feel like playing nice right now. So please, just, leave me alone.” She asked in the nicest way possible as she reached into the fridge to grab her own water bottle.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine raised his eyebrows at the response he got from the girl and his eyebrow quirked, his body language changing. “Fine,” he said, crossing his legs. “Sorry for attempting to be nice.” He said in a tone dripping with sass as he unscrewed the top of his water bottle to take a sip. Blaine left it quiet for a moment, watching Scarlett pack away her water and her jacket into her bag. “Y’know, if this is about Hunter, I’m willing to be an adult about this. I accept that you’re his friend and that you’re close to him as long as you can accept the fact that he’s my boyfriend.”
The man was a bit irritated that seemingly everywhere he turned in his life there she was, whether it be with his boyfriend or his brother-- there Scarlett was with her bad attitude. But, still, Blaine being Blaine, he thought maybe he could reason with her and be nice. His motive being that if he killed her with kindness, maybe she’d go away. “I mean, don’t you think we should attempt to be nice to each other since we have Duke and Hunter in common?”
Scarlett Berry:
Scarlett rolled her eyes when Blaine continued to speak despite her asking him nicely to not talk to her and she listened to him go on about how they should be nice since they both are important to Hunter and it made her snort, thinking about the day before, thinking about all of the time she’s spent with Hunter. Blaine wished he knew Hunter like she did-- he would never know him like she did and she didn’t appreciate the way he spoke to her. As if he was better than her because he had the boyfriend title and she was just his friend.
“Yeah, okay.” She snorted at the thought of the word friend. Friends didn’t have sex with each other and get dangerously close to confessing feelings during a shouting match in a parking garage.Â
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine raised his eyebrows, quirking his head at the way the girl’s body language shifted and the way she snorted. It was almost as if she was wanting to say something more but she was holding back. He figured it was some sarcastic comment that would contribute nothing to the conversation. “What?” He pressed, being the stubborn man he was.
“Do we not have them in common? Did something happen between you and Duke? Or you and Hunter?” He didn’t want to shamelessly pry but there he was, raising his eyebrows.
Scarlett Berry:
Scarlett let out an amused laugh when pressed her for more information, asking straight up if something happened between her and Hunter or Duke. She found it highly amusing that she was trying really hard not to be the bad guy here and it’s like the universe as testing her. Which was completely unfair because it knew she was going to fail miserably.
“Blaine, I’m...I’m serious. You aren’t going to like anything I have to say about Hunter and I so I wish that you would just leave me the fuck alone.” She said in the nicest possible way as she slipped her sunglasses on her face, looking at the man. “I’m begging you to drop it.”
Blaine Anderson:Â
Blaine frowned at the words Scarlett said, they didn’t sit well with him and it only further intrigued him and made him press on. “No, wait-- what happened?” He asked, standing up to block her from exiting the breakroom.Â
“If-if something happened between you and my boyfriend, especially, I deserve to know.” He challenged, crossing his arms and raising his eyebrows at her. Blaine didn’t like Scarlett and he didn’t appreciate the way she thought she could have secrets about his boyfriend. “I don’t really appreciate the way you hang around Hunter whenever you please. I don’t like the way you look at him and behave around him-- he’s with me, you know.” He said, his annoyance with her getting the best of him.
Scarlett Berry:
Looking at the other through narrowed eyes, Scarlett let out a bitter laugh. “Oh, Professor, you are treading on really thin ice here.” She slipped her glasses up onto her head and she stepped closer to him. He was really pushing her buttons but with that last statement- she was just in a bad enough mood for it to push her over. “Oh, he’s with you, huh? You just know him so well.”Â
She was just about to say something else but she held back briefly, looking at him and his smug, superior stance. He thought he had Hunter and she knew better. If he knew what she knew, he’d back the fuck off and leave her alone. “I’m telling you one last time, leave me alone and get out of my way.”
Blaine Anderson:Â
Blaine’s frown deepened at the way Scarlett laughed in his face. He didn’t like the threatening manner in which she spoke to him-- as if she knew more about Hunter than he did. Maybe they had known each other for around the same time but he was with Hunter. He had to know him at least a little better than she did. “What is that supposed to mean, Scarlett? Of course he’s with me, I do know him pretty well.” Blaine nodded, tightening his arms, doing his best not to look bothered by Scarlett’s words.
“I’ll leave you alone and get out of your way if you leave Hunter alone.” He said, wanting to eat the words just as fast as they had come out of his mouth. He didn’t want to be that boyfriend but she was really under his skin.Â
Scarlett Berry:Â
Scarlett could feel her blood boiling beneath the surface of her skin and her vision was going blurry with a deep crimson hue. “Listen, you absolute nuisance-- you don’t know anything. About me, about Hunter, about us together. You don’t know anything at all and I tried. I really did try to be nice to you here, I tried to be nice to you at that fucking karaoke bar-- but you just won’t stop.” She said, pointing at him, stepping closer with each word she spoke until her finger was almost touching his chest.
“You can bet your ass I’m going to leave Hunter alone but I promise you -- I promise you -- that is it not out of respect for you or because you told me to. I would fuck him again here on this table in front of you if I could and he’d allow it. Just to wipe the smug look off your face.” She promised him, her brown eyes burning a hole through his own. “You heard me right, I said again. I fucked your boyfriend that you know so well.” Scarlett couldn’t heard the words coming out of her mouth anymore, she was far gone and not holding back. “He told me how badly he wanted me and then fucked me against the wall not twenty-four hours ago. Did you know that? Did you know how much your boyfriend wants me?” She paused for a moment, raising her eyebrow. When he didn’t speak she tilted her head. “Oh, come on, Professor, don’t you know everything?” Scarlett waited for one more brief moment before speaking again. “No? Didn’t think so. Now get the fuck out of my way.”
Blaine Anderson:Â
Blaine didn’t say another word as Scarlett spoke to him, he hid his emotions beneath an intense scowl. He didn’t look away from her until the moment she told him Hunter had cheated on him with her, the words making him look down and away. His hands began to shake as his temper flared. He didn’t like the girl anymore than she liked him and he hoped this to be their last encounter ever.Â
When Scarlett told him to move again, he did. Blaine’s heart was beating fast against his chest as Scarlett disappeared from the break room, he was having a hard time wrapping his mind around their conversation and what she had told him. Coming right out and telling him to his face that she’d had sex with Hunter not twenty four hours ago was cruel and he didn’t believe her-- at least, he didn’t want to. He didn’t want to believe that Hunter would do such a thing after how much they’d progressed in the past weeks.
He thought of the day before when he had called and texted Hunter but didn’t get any response until much later and it ended in Hunter saying that he wanted to meet with Blaine after work. He feared the worst. When he heard the door opening again, thinking it Scarlett, he stood up from his seat and turned to the door. “Listen, Scarlett, I-” He paused when he saw it was Hunter and his heart jumped up into his throat and his cheeks felt warm. “Hunter..” He said softly, tears already bubbling in his eyes.
Hunter Clarington:
Hunter entered the break room, not expecting to see his boyfriend with tears in his eyes. He had hoped that all apprehension and hurt feelings could've waited until after Hunter broke the horrific news to Blaine. The older man froze in the hallway, trying to figure out why Blaine was upset. “Hey, what's wrong? What happened?” Hunter asked as he approached his boyfriend, all thoughts of his planned discussion out of mind for the time being while he cared for Blaine.Â
It hadn't even occurred to him that Blaine could've found out some other way. After all, it had only just happened yesterday and no one other than he and Scarlett were aware that it happened.
Blaine Anderson:Â
Blaine’s forehead wrinkled as Hunter stepped closer to him and he shrugged. “I-I don’t know.” He sniffled as he looked up at his boyfriend, crossing his arms in an attempt to hold himself together a little. “I-I don’t know what happened, I was just and she just--” He stuttered, his forehead wrinkling. “She’s so awful- how can you stand to be around her?” The shorter asked as she wiped at his face.Â
“I truly don’t understand how you or Duke can stand to be around someone so vile.” Blaine sniffled as he took a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself so he could explain what happened. “I was here about to head out after my break and Scarlett came in. We...we got into it a little and she-” He sighed, frowning and glancing down. “She told me that...she claims you cheated on me yesterday. With her.” He rolled his eyes a little. “I know that it’s not true but still it was..” He trailed off, shrugging yet again as he looked up at Hunter to read his reaction-- something in his gut churning uneasily.Â
Hunter Clarington:
At the mention of Scarlett’s name and how she had told Blaine what had happened yesterday, he felt his heart drop down into the pit of his stomach. He knew no matter how well he was at remaining composed, he couldn't hide the look of bewilderment on his face. Hunter was many things: self-assured, relentless, and sometimes even crafty. But Hunter Clarington was not a liar. He wouldn't tell Blaine that he didn't cheat because any relationship built up in lies wasn't worth being in and Hunter knew that. He knew this as his way of life and he wasn't about to start dropping any lies now.
“... She told you?” Should not have been the first words to come out of his mouth but just knowing that woman was the one to spill the beans when he had told her he was going to do it himself… it was indeed cruel. But then again, Hunter had done a cruel thing as well. “It's true,” he said, taking a step back and keeping his hands at his sides. This wasn't where or how he wanted to have this conversation but it was happening now. “I cheated on you. I don't have any excuses; I'm sorry.”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine raised his eyebrows at Hunter’s reaction and his heart only wedged itself further into his throat. It’s true. His ears felt as if they were ringing and he just looked at Hunter completely dumbfounded as he confirmed that what Scarlett said was true. Everything she said was true. She was closer to Hunter than he could ever wish to be and he wanted her. Her. He hated so much that she had been right.
“Are-are you serious?” He asked, a deep wrinkle settling in his forehead as he shook his head. Blaine took a step back, holding his hands up a little between them. He looked at Hunter with his big, sad eyes. “So, she was right.” He nodded, tears building faster in his eyes as he pictured her smug face when they were fighting, picturing Scarlett and Hunter together. “That girl has done nothing but try to make me feel inferior to her since we started dating and you’re telling me that this whole entire time she’s been right?” Blaine brought his hands up to his face to hide it, not wanting Hunter to see him cry. “Do you know how stupid I feel right now?” He asked, moving his hands to look at his boyfriend, his voice soft and shaky. “Why? Out of all the people in the world-- why her?”
Hunter Clarington:
Hunter didn't know what to say. In the span of time between now and when he'd last had sex with Scarlett, he hadn't made any progress in coming to terms with his feelings. He still really liked the young man standing in front of him. It made his heart ache to know he'd hurt Blaine so badly-- to have him break down to the point of tears. Hunter wasn't the type to beg or grovel, however horrible he felt, though. He lifted his chin which intensified the angle at which he was looking down at his boyfriend. “I told you I don't have any excuses.”Â
It wasn't his intention to appear so cold or heartless but truth be told he just couldn't answer Blaine’s question. He didn't know why he felt so drawn to her. He had never cheated on another person before-- especially one he liked so much-- so it was troubling that this one girl seemed to cause so many problems for him. He looked away from Blaine and his brow furrowed as he replayed yesterday’s events in his head. A sour feeling crawled its way from his stomach up to his throat and he forced it down with a hard swallow. “I don't have any excuses,” he repeated once again, “I don't know why her but it happened. It happened and I-- I don't have anything to say beyond that.”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine was a little taken aback by Hunter’s behavior and demeanor during this conversation. He frowned at the man that was supposed to care for him and he shook his head. He really didn’t want to stand there and have a conversation with someone who didn’t seem to care. He couldn’t understand why Hunter wasn’t giving him anything to work with. He took a step closer to Hunter, looking up at him through narrowed eyes. “You don’t have anything else to say? Nothing? How can you just stand there and act like you don’t care?” Despite his efforts, he couldn’t hold his tears back anymore and it really started to set in that Hunter wasn’t the man he thought he was.
“Where’s that guy I had sushi with, huh? The guy I was falling in love with?” He asked as the tears rolled down his cheeks. “Like, I get that we weren’t exactly getting married but I thought we were serious. I mean I--I had sex with you, Hunter. That meant something to me. It meant something. I had never been with anyone like that before.” He said, his voice breaking. Wiping at his face hastily, Blaine frowned sadly. “Maybe you’re just not who I thought you were and maybe that’s my fault. Maybe when I found out after our first date that you were still having sex with someone I shoul-” He stopped then as a look of realization crossed his face as he let out an un-amused chuckle. “It was her, wasn’t it? It was her you were having sex with when we started going out?”Â
Throwing his hands up in defeat, Blaine shook his head once more, chuckling again. “Wow, I’m actually an idiot.” He said before heading towards the door.
Hunter Clarington:
When Blaine confessed that he was actually starting to fall in love with him, Hunter’s stoic face fell and he was caught off-guard. They had been dating for weeks now but he hadn't expected to actually hear those words come out of Blaine’s mouth. It was true that Hunter also felt a deep connection to Blaine that could've led to love but with Scarlett in the picture it was difficult to see clearly-- it seemed in any direction. When pressed on whether Scarlett was the one he had been seeing at the start of their relationship, Hunter kept quiet. Blaine already had his answer.
“It meant something to me too,” Hunter spoke up, grabbing hold of Blaine and holding onto him. “You mean something to me. If you didn't, I’d just be lying to you about what happened between me and her.” Although it was true there was clear overlap between when he started seeing Blaine and when he was seeing Scarlett, both relationships were different and at the time Hunter hadn't seen how problematic it would be now.Â
Hunter let go of Blaine’s arm, aware he had no right to reach out to him or tell him to stay. He shifted where he stood and looked down at the ground. “What I did was a mistake and I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry-- I really am.”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine stopped when Hunter reached out to him, frowning at the door in front of him, letting Hunter hold onto his arm as he spoke. Though he listened to what Hunter had to say, he still shook his head. He didn’t want to hear that he meant something to the man-- he didn’t want to hear that he meant so much to Hunter that that’s why he wasn’t lying about it. Blaine sighed heavily, shaking his head at the taller’s words. When Hunter let go of his arm, he took a step back, turning to look at Hunter. “If I meant anything to you-- you wouldn’t have done anything to be sorry for-- you wouldn’t have done anything you would’ve had the chance to lie about.”Â
The shorter couldn’t really get a handle on his feelings and he didn’t know what he was supposed to do or what he was supposed to feel. He felt really stupid in that moment, he felt hurt and angry. “No, no I don’t think it was a mistake. Obviously you have feelings for her-- you can’t seem to stay away from her. I think the mistake was us, honestly. I think trying to date me while you’re in love with someone else was the mistake.” He said before rubbing his face, letting out a heavy sigh. “I have to get back to work.” Blaine said before actually leaving the room this time.
Hunter Clarington:
Hunter wanted to call out to Blaine. He wanted to tell him that it wasn't true that he was in love with Scarlett. He wanted to let Blaine know that despite his lack of explanation for what he had done, he still truly cared for him, but he knew he lost all rights of saying anything to him the moment he chose to cheat on him with Scarlett.Â
Scarlett. Hunter scowled at the thought of her. He knew had she not meddled and blabbed to him in the cruel way that she spoke, surely this conversation with Blaine could've ended on a much less negative note. How dare she go ahead and tell Blaine about their tryst when she knew he had wanted to tell Blaine himself. Blaine was his boyfriend after all. Or, he supposed, was his boyfriend.Â
Summary: Hunter really wants to be able to hang out with both his boyfriend and best friend together, much to their chagrin. They all agree to spend a fun evening at a karaoke bar where nothing should go awry… right?
Notes/Warnings: Underage drinking; written fic-style. Longest para ever omfg
Maybe after this karaoke night and you spending the weekend at my place without any disruptions or distractions, we can revisit this idea. You need a glimpse into your future before you decide to dive in, right?
Well obviously a stay at Le Clarington can be arranged at the drop of the hat. You’d look especially adorable in my hoodie; I’d have a lot of fun taking it off of you, too, when we turn up the heat on snuggle time.Â
Anytime you want a break from ol’ Duke, you can bring your cute butt over here. We already work at the same place so you know I’ll drive you to and from… Sounds pretty nice, right?
[Private]
I would like that very much. I hope you know that you probably won’t be getting the hoodie back, I’m gonna find the most comfortable one and steal it from you. You can take it off as long as I get to keep it.
Mm, that sounds really nice. Spending the night with you, having breakfast together, driving to work together. Sounds really domestic and a lot like you’re trying to get me to fall for you, Hunter.
I’m sold on the idea; I’ll start planning that right away. Maybe we’ll even stay at a swanky hotel with a private jacuzzi right there in the room.
[Private]
I look forward to it. You’re very romantic, Hunter, but I’d be completely happy just at your place. It’d be nice to slip on one of your hoodies and snuggle up on your couch.Â
Pssh, who needs jobs when we’ve got each other alone in bed without a care for the world? I really want to do this karaoke thing with you but a weekend with just you and me sounds amazing. Maybe for our weekend together we could a little stay-cation someplace. I know we both like traveling but I really don’t care where we go, as long as I’m with you.
[Private]
I think that sounds wonderful, actually. I wouldn’t mind a stay-cation with you. We could order food and just stay in, binge watch Netflix...well at least Netflix could be on in the background.
If I could have my way, I’d just keep you in bed– naked, of course– and we’d just kiss and have sex all day and night. You’re fucking gorgeous.
[Private]
I think that our jobs would definitely have a problem with that. But, you know, if you’d rather do that than karaoke then I would have no arguments. We could stay in for the weekend, just me and you.
