look Iâm too lazy to grab screenshots and crap but like I did play to yusukeâs Max rank and he never once spoke of physical abuse there or just in-game in general. What he did speak of and relate to was psychological abuse such as manipulation, lying, etc etc.
It is canonically shown that despite the horrible deed madarame did by allowing yusukeâs mother to die-- He still cared for Yusuke. Learning this information made Yusuke conflicted in his hate because, the fact is, there was no possible way madarame could have known the boy had any artistic talent as a hecking 3 yr old. Itâs even said that the old guy panicked when yusukeâs fell ill once with a fever, and he desperately called around to figure out what to do about it.
This, of course, doesnât excuse the manipulation and overworking he put on his pupils, but it does shed some light on how he was still caring, on some level until he deteriorated further to where we saw him during-game.
We also have to remember madarame played his role of a good guy until his shadow appeared. So well in fact, that despite yusuke seeing his fellow pupils fall, he still believed in him, and that he was a good, honest man. Sure, that was a lie, but his belief was so firm, that it wouldnât make sense for madarame to have laid his hands on him or any other students.
Another point being that thereâs no point or benefit in it for him to be physically abusive. His sin is Vanity, he wants to look good in the eyes of others, and beating students that come to him is no good way to do that. Besides, if any normal person saw that going on, wouldnât they leave? Yes, sometimes people turn a blind eye, and yes, sometimes people never speak out about their experiences because of fear...But the only testimony we have (and the only proof besides yusuke one way or another) is from a business man who hated madarame for making him hate art and working him so hard he couldnât stand to look at it anymore. no mention of beatings or threatening of such.
THIS IS GETTING AWAY FROM ME AT THIS POINT BUT as much as I think madarame stinks, I just canât stand when people say he was physically abusive. Iâm iffy on starvation, too, but thatâs for another time. I think itâs also important to yusukeâs character what he went through, and understanding it properly. the trauma between physical and psychological abuse is not the same, and CAN come together, but shouldnât be lumped together.
