You have very little morally persuasive power with people who can feel your underlying contempt.
Martin Luther King Jr.
Every issues that is political has deep layers of emotion and psychology underneath it.... If you don’t struggle with the question of justice, you’re not a serious player...... Rigor and perspicacity.
Marianne Williamson, Commune | Teaching the Teachers
Having a simpler life is not an impoverished life... Real visionary leadership is not maintaining the status quo.... And I say that from complete entrenchment in that world.

Remembering Mom
Me & My Mom. Circa 1985. Biel, Switzerland
My Mom passed away on Sept. 27th, 2018. Our relationship was complex, and what I can say is this: In my experience of her, when her illnesses & anxieties subsided, she was generous, understanding, and had a kind kind heart.
I love this photo of us together in Switzerland, circa 1985. . . . . . . This is how I like to remember her.
I hope you’re in more peaceful place now Mom.

By Jim Dethmer
From the blog post:
“Someone once said that all of life is a conversation. I agree. Often the conversation is in our own heads where the dialogue never seems to end. Sometimes the conversation is between intimate partners or parents and children. Conversations go on in organizations all the time between leaders and followers, teammates, sales teams and customers, one department with another...and on and on the talking goes. Since this seems to be a de facto reality, it would behoove all of us to be capable of having world class conversations. So much time, energy and opportunity are missed because we’re having suboptimal discussions.”
SIY Teacher Community Gathering: Creating A Culture Of Mindfulness Within An Organization (Sept. 2018)
Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute. September 2018. San Francisco, CA
Dear SIY Teachers & Teachers-In-Training,
Looking forward to seeing you all at our SIY Community Gathering on Thursday!
Two colleagues and myself will be leading a session titled “Creating A Culture Of Mindfulness Within An Organization”. In it we’ll explore what "Mindfulness" means in the workplace, and how it can help increase awareness of the gap that often exists between an individuals’ pursuit of wellbeing within an organization, and the organizations’ goals, often driven by productivity & profit. We will explore whether, and in what capacity, there can be alignment, and if so, how it can be cultivated and supported.
We will also look at how we can respond to attempts of Mindfulness being used in organizations to assuage reactions to toxic work environments, and unhealthy work schedules & demands Vs. attempting to address & change the root causes of these problems….. And particularly in the field of Education, are we bringing mindfulness & Yoga into the classroom to get students to be more at peace with, and generate less push back to, unhealthy environments, unfair treatment, and bias teaching practices? How do we create better experiences for them, as well as for teachers, and simultaneously not gloss over “mis-behaviors” that are often a response to feeling unsafe, unheard, and not respected?
This session will take place at 1:30pm.
Before hand, I will be teaching a dance called Freedom, for anyone interested. This is the same dance that was taught in April, during our in-person teacher training at Futures Without Violence.
I look forward to seeing you there! :)

SIY Teacher Community Gathering: Movement Activity: Freedom (Sept. 2018)
Dear SIY Teachers & Teachers-In-Training,
I will be teaching the choreography to a dance called “Freedom”, set to the song Freedom by Pharrell Williams. We will dance for half an hour, for the latter part of lunch, beginning at 1pm.
This is the same dance that was taught at the in-person teacher training back in April.
While there’s no need to prepare anything ahead of time, below is a video of the choreography, if you’d like to see the kind of movement we’ll be doing.
Later in the afternoon, two colleagues and myself will be leading a session titled “Creating A Culture Of Mindfulness Within An Organization”. In it we’ll explore what "Mindfulness" means in the workplace, and how it can help increase the awareness of the gap that often exists between an individuals’ pursuit of wellbeing within an organization, and the organizations’ goals, often driven by productivity & profit. Lisa Park: Eunoia II
From the Youtube Site:
“Eunoia II is outfitted with 48 vibration pools, inspired by the 48 emotions philosopher Baruch Spinoza outlined in his book, Ethica, like frustration, excitement, engagement, and meditation. Each speaker vibrates according to Park's brain wave-interpreting algorithm, which transforms intense signals from Park's Emotiv EEG headset into intense vibrations in the pools of water atop speakers. The modulation of the sound (volume, speed, panning) occurs in real-time in response to her emotional values detected by EEG headset. Here, Park is literally putting her inner struggles on display, and the whole show depends on how she deals with her feelings. The calmer she is, the less vibrations of the sound happen.
“ “I started working with biosensors especially EEG headset, because I questioned, 'how can I take this invisible energy and emotions and make it visible?'" Park told The Creators Project. "When I am feeling certain emotions (anger, sadness, happiness), I believe that what's inside me, more than 60% of water in human body, will create vibrations/energy within myself. So, I wanted to create an artwork that represents the inner part of myself.” - Lisa Park“
"The more clearly you understand yourself and your emotions, the more you become a lover of what it is."- Baruch Spinoza
