I NEED A RUBBER MATE ;)

I moved from England to a very conservative all girls school in the USA. I was used to doing math using a pen, as was the norm in England. That was the first strike with my nun math teacher. Irritated I would try to use a fountain pen, I was given a pencil.

Obviously, I’m not perfect, and I made some errors. I needed to erase some of my work.

I whispered to a girl sitting by me, “hey, can I borrow a rubber?”

Her face blushed and she looked away and just ignored me! I was like ruuude.

So I ask another chick, who then gasped and seemed utterly shocked I would have the audacity to ask a simple favor.

I got the same kind of reaction from the next person, who instantly turned to her friend and clearly began talking about me.

At this point the nun got frustrated and demanded to know what all the commotion was about, to which I simply announced, “I just need a rubber and no one wants to lend me one”.

I immediately got sent to the principals office. I only learned a rubber meant a condom, after that experience. Whoops.

In England, A RUBBER IS AN ERASER!

Language is funny and American English does not always have the same translation in British English.

Lesson Learned.

LOTTERY WIN

Have you ever woken up from a dream and thought whatever occurred in your dream was a factual part of your current reality?

I woke up one day and felt absolutely amazing! "Top of the world" type feeling, like I never experienced!!

When I questioned why I felt SO damn good, lying in bed with my head in my hands - it dawned on me… "oh yea...I won the lottery!!!!!" 🤑

Like silly ol’ me, I forgot that fun little fact!

I went about my day, remembering I had won the lottery. It was POWERFUL. It was GRAND. I DID feel like a gazillion bucks! 💸

I didn’t question why I was still renting a room.. ..or happily whistling going to my gas station job, b/c I always said "if I was to win the lottery - I wouldn’t make any drastic changes" (so no one would know I had won)…

I didn’t dispute the notion at all, not until HOURS later….

… I logged into my bank account, only to realize I was living a complete lie, all that day!!

I did NOT win the lottery :( My bank account had less than $100 in it. 💰

I proceeded to cry profusely, for having believed my own lie for the better half of a day...I felt so dumb... ...but alas I did find out how I would feel, if in fact I actually had won!

Since then, there have been other incidents in my life where I get that same type of "won-the-lottery" feeling.

A decade later, one particular person helped me capture and hold on to that same feeling. I won’t lie and say e v e r y d a y feels like I won the lottery, but they helped me realize what I was searching for. The things that give me the same type of feeling.

And most days, I DO wake up and feel like I’m already winning and grinning... The secret: loving mySelf unconditionally...billionaire or not 😁

If you truly love someone, you must be willing to let them go. You want them to fly.

Example:

A mama bird has to let the baby bird leave their nest, otherwise, how else will it ever know it can fly?

And to truly love yourself and fly, you must be willing to let others go as well.

I personally believe that if you love someone deeply, not getting in the way of their freedom is the highest display of affection. You can’t be so fearful that you suffocate them from holding on so tight.

Plus, if they recognize the love for what it is - chances are they’ll be back to that nest 🪺

Love is also about trust & respect.

You can call the “letting go” a “free fall” or a “trust fall”.

My life has been a series of tower moments, but one particular tower moment synchronized perfectly with finding this literal tower, under a gorgeous starlit sky. June 2022.

Most often these moments are personal and sacred.

Sometimes tower moments are meant to be shared though and sometimes you’re just the Rapunzel in a tower moment, that simply needs to let her hair down.

Me: sitting at bar after finishing my first glass

Bartender: (runs up to me with wild panic eyes) “excuse me ma’am! I don’t mean to alarm you…”

Me: totally alarmed and perplexed

Bartender: “there is something terribly wrong with this situation” - (points to glass)

Me: realizing the transparency of my glass. Hyperventilate laughing I say, “Touché”

Bartender: (hours later) “Miss - May I destroy your evidence?”

Me: seeing another transparent glass I reply, “good call on the last call”

If time is not your friend, give your time and energy to your friends.

I’m out of work right now…

I shouldn’t be spending what little I have without a secured way of replenishing it..

but I’ll be damned if I don’t do whatever I can, when time is of the essence, for the people I care about.

Some people might view it as stupid for not prioritizing myself, but life loses meaning when I’m not doing what I feel is necessary.

I’ll live on the streets or off the forest land before I ever give up on the ones so dear to me..or regret not helping when time was on our side.

Besides, this is good fuel. This is firing me up to make a quick buck. Watch me stack up!!! 🤑

I rarely get to discuss my various lines of work, but generally what keeps me vested in any venture is the people. One good soul can make ALL the difference.

Back in the day, I got to help record artists in the music industry. My favorite artist that I ever got to do a session with wasn’t the biggest name I worked with by billboard standards, but he was the best and most gorgeous - inside & out.

Those days at the studio felt like I was participating in pure magic.

There was excitement in the air, but the vibe was super chill and laid back. His talent superseded any egos I had ever come across in the industry. His authentic nature exuded itself and was inviting. The crew and entourage would share meals together, which was the hardest part of the gig. Why? Because I had to try so hard not to spit out my food or drink when a joke was shared at the table. People making me laugh, when I’m trying to eat or drink, has always been a struggle for me.

Any way, this is my ode to Matt Corby.

Long live that Aussie boy and all good old souls!

PSYCHOBIOTICS

..not enough people talk about this.

I have no issue with pills for mental health, but the foods we consume and our gut health often gets overlooked as a solution. I find this sad, because it correlates with the brain activity so very much.

Certain probiotics/prebiotics and fermented foods can have a bigger impact on depression and anxiety than we give them credit for.

Test it out for yourself, if you struggle with depression or anxiety. It doesn’t take too long to notice the difference and if you’re curious there’s tons of case studies/research to google.

It’s the little things that bring so much joy to some of the more mundane days in life…

Simple pleasing aesthetics can give me a sigh of relief.

Simple actions can spark a smile and change the trajectory of everything.

Simple feelings can culminate to eventually stimulate a great day.

Examples:

A well made bed,

a tidy workspace,

the pretty presentation of a basic meal,

the stranger that smiles back when you awkwardly walk past,

the right song on the radio,

wiggling/dancing in the car,

a meme or post that just sums current circumstances so eloquently,

a bird landing on your window sill,

the candle or fire that burns perfectly,

a patient stranger holding a door open,

the colors of sunset or twilight sky,

seeing a shape in a cloud,

a genuine “thank you”,

an authentic squeeze,

hearing a contagious laugh,

the feeling after brushing your teeth, washing your face or doing your hair,

seeing the houseplants you haven’t killed,

a piece of artwork strategically placed,

an organized center console,

a clean sink,

the wink you gave yourself after catching your reflection in the mirror,

receiving zero junk mail,

a convo with the otherside,

a dog walk watching their happy tails,

a clear night where you can see the stars n moon stellar,

waking up to a thunderstorm,

a bedside stand with the right book and or drink on it.

They’re all flakes of gold to me.
