MARCH 1
I'm currently starting an art challenge where I create portraits of different people to retain the discipline and principles I learned from the classical drawing workshop at Galvez Atelier. Not practicing for even a few weeks could make you forget or lose your muscle memory.
For my first entry, I decided to draw Audrey Hepburn. At first, I was struggling to think who I will draw. But, then I remember that I used to draw her in one of my sketchpads back in college and unfortunately, it didn't look like her.
I was excited to go back to drawing after 2 weeks of no practice. So while skimming through hundreds of her pictures on Pinterest, I found a nice picture of her smiling widely.
Now, I'm going to confess - people smiling with their teeth showing are hard to draw. (Teeth are hard to draw, okay!) But because I'm a competitive little lady, I rose up to the challenge.
But, it was a bit of a failure! I got too excited drawing the details again that I measured everything in her face wrong.
As I've mentioned earlier, you lose a bit of muscle memory if you don't practice as often. I have an excuse of being so focused at work that I forgot to make time for practice. But, that shouldn't be acceptable.
If you really want to do it, then make time for it. No excuses!
As a result, I made a new one and this turned out more like her. I still see some mistakes here and there, but that's why you practice! And in order to improve, you should always be willing to change and grow each time you create something.
