I should have had this together the evening I made the account (and certainly as soon as I knew I was participating!)
Drop your username so we can follow each other (and wage war!)
ArtFight Revenge for Maguito08, who gave me my first ever Defense! I had a lot of fun drawing Lime!
ArtFight Revenge for webkinzlover25, who drew my OC Salmiakki the cat. I love this mobian coyote samurai design!
ArtFight attack for Coppeige!
I decided to join for the first time, and do attacks in between commission work, so far I am loving this event. It's so inspiring, and a great motivator to keep momentum going.
I have been in an art rut for a long while now and it seems my style can't decide if it wants to be textured or smooth. I like both but for different reasons.
Kattober Day 3: Backpack
He is VERY displeased at being contained. I am tired, so I decided it just had to be finished, not perfect.
Kattober Day 2: Upside Down
I always loved Victoria's solo and would copy it as best I could. It was fun keeping things loose and experimenting with strokes.
I am sharing this painting again today, October 1st, 2024 because on the way to work this morning I saw the news that Ken Page has passed away at the age of 70. I had chosen to wear one of my Nightmare Before Christmas shirts because of the start of spooky month but it took on a whole new meaning in seconds. I have been deeply saddened by this news as he has been a part of my life since childhood through not just his voice acting (Nightmare Before Christmas), but his acting in musical theater. Specifically, CATS, which I first saw when I was about four when PBS aired the official recording, and we later had it on VHS. (I am shocked I didn't wear it out.)
In 2019 I had the opportunity to meet him in person at Wizard World and though I was too flustered about being early with nobody in line to say much of what I had wanted to tell him about how much his work has meant to me, I had this watercolor I made for him. It was a rush job, painted the night before when I realized I might be too nervous to speak, but he loved it. He seemed surprised to receive a painting and was tickled that it showed "Everything [he] did" (just about). He held both of my hands and sincerely thanked me. Ken Page was such a delightful, warm person and I deeply regret leaving the booth so fast out of nerves. I really could have stayed and chatted with him longer but he was my first big guest I had met. It's still one of my favorite paintings and I think of him whenever I look at the scan. I had hoped I would get another chance to see him.
Wherever he is, I hope he is at peace and knows how many people loved him.
Thank you Ken Page, for touching so many with your talents and kind heart. You are forever my Old Deuteronomy, and Oogie Boogie. Rest well, Halloween King.
I am going to see how far I can get in Kattober this year. I just wasn't feeling the official Inktober prompts. Day one is "Charm" so I drew Tugger laying it on thick lol. I kind of like the scratchy effect chisel nib markers give
really helpful technique ^ once you know how to divide by halves and thirds it makes drawing evenly spaced things in perspective waaay easier:

A donkey with a quarts prosthetic, inspired by a post from a mutual about repairing a little carved stone donkey figurine that had been damaged. I immediately knew I had to draw the image in my head.
Digital artists all know what it is to misplace your tablet pen. But there is also misplacing not one but TWO gloves.
Have I completed art before without palm resistance gloves? Yes. Do I want to now that I have experienced not having to worry about it? No.
shoutout to the slow artists. the artists with hardly any time for art. the artists who reach the end of the day with no energy for art. you got this i believe in you and you are no less valued than anyone else
to be clear. when i say artist i mean every kind of art. drawing writing music sculpting embroidery idc this post was for you and i am sending my love your way

I have finished Vanitas! I'm very proud of how this turned out, especially for it being so long since I gave watercolors a serious go. Copic Bleedproof White is amazing for touching up areas and going over again, I highly recommend it. This is a mixed media piece, I used glitter gel pen on the frame details so they sparkle under light, as well as added some shimmer/interference watercolors in some other areas such as his jewelry, hair, tie, and the butterflies. The pink one shimmers pink on one angle and blue on another.
