KinnPorsche would fail to solve an escape room, but the arguments they have about it is their foreplay. Also, Kinn would have to pay for all the props Porsche accidentally (and not so accidentally) breaks.

VegasPete would be able to solve an escape room, but Pete definitely at one point says fuck it and breaks a lock to save time and Vegas is kind of useless for a bit as he processes.

KimChay would solve an escape room and have fun with it, but Chay would have to prevent Kim from trying to pick the locks.

Krailert's desperately sad fate tracks exactly with how I interpreted the show positioning him as representing the past suffering of queer people in contrast to Trin standing in for progress and queer possibility of the future. They fully laid the groundwork for it.

Dhevi tells him that he made a choice and that he should shoulder the responsibility for it. She's both right and wrong. Krailert did technically choose to remain in the military, despite knowing what they did to his lover and, by extention, him. He chose to submit to their demands. Only, he did so under duress. I guess he could have chosen to completely desert his entire life and disappear to another country to start a new life? But could he have really? At what cost? So while he "made the choice" he didn't much have one to begin with. Sure, people led queer lives, reconfigured their circumstances, but many didn’t, because it was a really hard choice to make, if you even had it. And that's the point. Stuck in a rigid societal configuration as he was, his queerness left him without choice.

Dhevi sees it only from her own perspective, in which she has very little choice herself. She doesn't see Krailert's queerness as some intrinsic part of him that she should take into empathetic consideration. She quite likely wouldn't see Krailert's attraction to Naran as equal to her attraction to Veera, because he's queer. His queerness makes his emotions lesser to her, because she sees them as deviant, and secondary to what really matters, which is marriage, and homemaking, securing a legacy and social position, which are paramount to her keeping her life the way she wants it.

Krailert very likely paid for Trin's schooling in bangkok, and was set on giving him opportunities for a better life on many levels. His painful survival within the status quo is quite literally what allowed Trin to break free from it. And he says as much to him, asking him to live as his true self, for him.

Krailert embodies the previous generations of queer people persevering within the oppressive systems they found themselves in. Krailert couldn't liberate himself quite yet, but he could see that Trin could.

Just so y’all know: I can’t speak for every other fic author but I can say that I remember when people leave me kind comments. I recognize your urls and/or usernames on AO3.
