sometimes instead of a horrid little monk, divine visions of lesbians dance in my head dispensing wisdom
Resolution Bingo check in, and then reading select short stories from N. K. Jemisin's How Long Til Black Future Month. Join me~
There are people who could probably put it in better words than I (though I did try with a lesson!) but one thing I love about being Black and Queer is that once you reject all of the internalized hate that your society has forced onto you, that being Black and being Queer are aberrant, sinful, inferior, something to abhor... It's really fucking awesome. Go together like whipped cream and a sundae fr. I love being me.
I haven't loved myself more than I have accepting myself and how my experiences cannot be separated. I'm not just Black and just Queer, the way I think many queer white folks struggle with (how Whiteness affects even your queerness and understanding of gender experience).
I'm both, they're together and inseparable, they make for something that frankly, is clear everybody Wants because otherwise we wouldn't be the queer pop culture creators and innovators we continue to be.
Idk, I just love it. I love knowing that I'm an existence that was meant to die out or be crushed or wilt under pressure and I'm still standing (ha!) I want that for all of us, fr. Self love won't stop systemic oppression, but it sure helps when you're sure of who you are when you're fighting.
Added some recent drawings and print pre-orders on my Etsy!
Good news that we deserve 😌
for people who can’t watch the video: THE AMYGDALA CHANGES TRADITIONALLY FOUND IN MOTHERS SHOW UP IN ALL PRIMARY CAREGIVERS REGARDLESS OF SEX
Changes in this part of the brain were previously used to previously used to argue that women are the ideal primary caretakers of children in all cases. And apparently, it’s false. The reason they found these changes in women was that women were already the primary caretaker in almost all cases, not because there’s something inherent to women that makes them better parents.
this is big news for SAHF and single dads!
This is also big news for adoptive parents and queer couples! Many people try to argue that adoptive parents aren't real parents because of biology and blah blah blah. Bigots will also argue this case against queer people. So, to all my traditionalists: it's not science! It's bigotry and sexist!
The first few months of being a parent are a sensitive period.
This is why paid parental leave for all parents regardless of gender is so crucial. All parents need and deserve time to bond with their children. When only one parent is given parental leave, that parent is naturally going to have more time to develop a bond to that child than the parent who immediately goes back to work. This will, inevitably, create a lifelong imbalance in who does most, or all, of the childcare. Equal paid parental leave regardless of gender benefits all parents and all children.
Trans joy is real and it is bigger than hatred.
Your lived truth is a beacon of light in this world.
Hi! Ive got a question/suggestion for yall: why not cover 19th century (what we would probably call today) Non Binary French mystic Simon Ganneau?
Here's a link to his wiki page on Non Binary Wikipedia: https://nonbinary.wiki/wiki/Simon_Ganneau
I can absolutely check this person out and add them to our list!
Also this quote from the article you linked:
"He wore a combination of feminine and masculine signifiers: a beard, a working man's blouse, and a woman's mantle. He called himself by the title "the Mapah," which was a combination of the words mater (mother) and pater (father). He created a mystical religion he called Evadaisme, meaning "Eve-Adam-ism." This taught that the next phase of human development would be androgyny, coming from the femininity of Mary-Eve marrying the masculinity of Christ-Adam. Evadaisme favored socialism, and condemned sexist traditions, such as taking the surname of one's father and not one's mother. Though the Mapah was poor, he was well-educated, and spoke eloquently. He preached to working-class men, and to women who were sex workers."
I am so intrigued!
[Image ID: A fat, Black mermaid swims happily in sun-streaked water with bubbles all around them. They have locs with a lot of hair jewelry (consisting of gold rings & tips, wire that wraps around a few locs, and seashells) that float around their head. They have pointed ears, large hoop earrings, and a big smile. Their tail is a goldish yellow and they have piercings on their fins. Most of the fin piercings are gold hoops, but there is also a little emerald fish that dangles from the very tip of their tail. They have gold/yellow scales on parts of their skin on their upper body. There is a small artist signature by the tail fin that reads, "QFA'26." /End ID] I finally finished and can post my mermaid for Mermay! I rarely participate in Mermay, but I always think about it, and this year I had a great opportunity to do this piece on my stream. There are some things I wish I could have spent more time on, but I am *quite* happy with how the composition came out and I think my mermaid looks so joyful in the sun~ @creatingblackcharacters -- I almost didn't make it for Mermay, but here it is! I wanted to show this to you because I know you were seeking out more Black mermaids! I hope you like it :3

My cranky little seadragon 🌊✨️
Kids' book from the 1940s, with built-in flip book!
The rest of the format (one page of text, one with an illustration + overall size) reminds me of my beloved "Great Illustrated Classics" series I had when I was 7 or 8. But I could also swear that somewhere in my childhood library was a book or two with a little corner flipbook like this...
Where are the Black mermaids?? The Black fantasy sea creatures?? I wanna see those this month 📢📢📢
<<" using this to yap about my own oc....

not to be maya on side but please do not call someone or something “mayan” when talking about our people, culture, etc. “mayan” refers to our language family (a language FAMILY, in which there are plenty of unique languages). we are the maya, not the mayans. i am maya, not mayan. it is the indigenous maya community, not the indigenous mayan community.
you can reblog this 😔
If you think Remmick's behavior in Sinners towards Sammie was in any way queer or motivated by sexual attraction, boy do I got a book you'll love!!
Join your fellow centuries of believers as you learn the racist history of white people (yes, the women too!) taking advantage of their enslaved Black victims' bodies in any way they saw fit, because they had a psychosexual obsession with the power they held over them! I'm sorry, I mean the "enemies to lovers obsessed vampire trope"!
That title is kinda creepy to me.
So is eating Black people both literally and figuratively, my dear
