as a straight, cis, able-bodied, black american woman there are a whole host of issues and subjects i’m not familiar with, have not been exposed to and/or am not qualified to speak on. consciousness is a journey, for EVERYONE, myself included. it’s impossible for me or anyone to know everything! trust, i have no problem doing my homework, but i can’t be up to date on everything. you can’t know what you don’t know. i absolutely love the tumblr community mainly because i get to interact with and learn from so many different types of people that i’ve come to love and respect.

it’s awesome (and slightly intimidating) to be seen as someone that’s an authority on important issues, but i promise i don’t take it lightly. i just ask that you give me the space to continue learning too. as always, if you have concerns, i’m here.

I especially love this quote by Carl which I believe we really should take to heart:

I find many adults are put off when young children pose scientific questions. Why is the Moon round? the children ask. Why is grass green? What is a dream? How deep can you dig a hole? When is the world’s birthday? Why do we have toes? Too many teachers and parents answer with irritation or ridicule, or quickly move on to something else: ‘What did you expect the Moon to be, square?’ Children soon recognize that somehow this kind of question annoys the grown-ups. A few more experiences like it, and another child has been lost to science. Why adults should pretend to omniscience before 6-year-olds, I can’t for the life of me understand. What’s wrong with admitting that we don’t know something? Is our self-esteem so fragile?

White privilege is not being sentenced to prison because it’s too scary.

Today in Not The Onion, this guy got arrested for dealing coke but the judge opted not to send him to prison because he was just selling drugs to pay off a debt and he was terrified of going to jail and [unspoken but understood] also white.

I just feel like quitting.

Sooo the judges understand how prison is terrible… For white people. They are opposed to prison…. For white people. Prison abolishment and deconstructing the industrial complex… For white people. They understand why prison is terrible but that is why they created it for black people.

This white drug dealer gets off because of adverse economic circumstances and yet I bet that’s true of 99% of the (majority Black and Latino) drug dealers currently incarcerated. People normally don’t sell drugs because it’s fun or their dream job.

I think this judge’s cases need to be reviewed and I wanna know if they’ve sent any Black ppl to jail for the same crime. I bet they have.
